I was really hoping he would step it up this year. This will put him deeper in the dog house with this regime.

If you punch a pregnant woman, you are the lowest scum of the earth imaginable. No excuses and no explaining the context.

Merling is a piece of **** and I hope we just simply cut him.

What a waste. We have had a couple of wife beaters before.Randy Mc Michael for one.He was shipped out.

Its posible this regime drafted Odrick because they suspected or knew Merling had personal problems

I dont know for sure but apparently he was selected because he was the BPA on Ireland's board. They didnt scout him that much.

Sigh, not like i didn't see it coming.I saw the headlines but it was no surprise. Time for a training camp rookie to step up and take this pathetic losers spot. I'm amazed at how these guys take these opportunities to play in the NFL for granted. So many people devote there lives to get into this sport and D***S like merling just p**S it all away. Way to be a role model.

Hate to be the one to say it, but this is still the United States and Merling is innocent until proven guilty. I havent heard a single detail about what happened so I wont pass judgement. You guys should slow down with the condemnations, just my opinion.

there usually are two sides to every story
    we haven't even received confirmation
on the first side & we're trading him to the Bengals
wouldn't be too hasty in casting that first stone
just might be more to this than has been reported

Oh yeah. At the time I thought he was a terrific pick, but he hasn't done much for us and his practice ethic is lacking as well.

Dump him, if past performance is any indicator, we won't miss him much.

i think he was rated higher as a 4-3 DE than 3-4 DE though, but dont worry, there is no way we cut him (like some people think). He will be playing for us in the same role he was before this incident... backup to Odrick

Yeah, this is true. But there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of doubt, but true, let him have his due process.

That being said, if it's true, this guy is an idiot and should spend time behind bars to think about his actions and the possible repercussions.

And she's only 2 months pregnant? He thinks it's bad now, dude has another thing coming in about 6 months. Also, unless she walked into a door, his side of the story doesn't mean much.

I agree, let the courts figure out what actually happened first. Could be blown way out of proportion.

If indeed he did committ assault and battery on his pregnant girlfriend, then I think it's safe to say we would all want him gone and severley punished.

But sometimes domestic disputes are a lot of he said she said, so taking an initial headline with no details is hardly sufficient at this point in time.

    Just my 2 cents.

He will have his day in court, legally and in Judge Parcell's court of opinion.
There could be more to the story than what is being said, but if true there is no excuse. He should have never have let himself be in that position to begin with and it being a felony, I hate to think how Goodall might deal with it.

I wanted Porter. However looking back with 20/20 hindsight it seems crazy that we didn't take Henne at 32 after passing on Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. That said Merling was a solid pick at the time. Many considered him a Top 15 talent. You never know how guys will pan out.

If we had drafted Henne at 32 we could have taken Jermichael Finley at 57.
