http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/ Hmm...Wake is my boy, but he did take a small vacay...
One play..one time...one pressure, with the game on the line..I like my chances with a bigger faster stronger more explosive Cam Wake...... sheeeee#, thats scary. Studying Wake I see a pure pass rusher that has a hard time doing 2 things at once...diagnosing, and beating the tackle..This is why imo, that its imperative to keep his hand in the ground as much as possible in this defense. Will I put it past this tremendous athlete to get better?, no I won't {hell i wanna know what this cat would run in a forty and a shuttle?? but if he can't, i wont be dissapointed in having a lethal Pass rush specialist.
We shall see Deej, to me the real test for Cam's jump to the NFL starts this year, he has to show forward and reverse gears, the ability to play standing up, the ability to protect the inside when he passrushes. Last Yr Wake was wheat in the field, just a pure passrushing beast who could just throw fastballs that few could handle, this year he has to up his game because this is the NFL, they learn very quickly how to neutralize one trick ponies. Welcome to the N-F-L Mr. Wake.
I agree to an extent Pod, but I think in todays game, the reps are there to make huge impact, this aint no pony were talkin about here, this is a thoroughbred. Ive givin Cam a middle name... Cam " extrapulate my numbers" Wake. We might be lookin at a 15 to 20 sack artist just by giving him proper touches, not sure I want to mess with that so fast...Iam sure they have the right plan.
Perhaps, I do agree we will see something special from Wake this year, as in 15 to 20 sacks are possible, or an average Derrick Thomas season of 12 to 14. I also think his sacks will come in bunches, 3 a game or maybe more, a lot depends on who is rushing from the strongside..Misi has to come through, or Anderson has to find his inner James Harrison..a late bloomer.
iam not sure what Charlie's deal is, there are times where I see some really nice form on his rushes, he's a little slight of frame, maybe he got bigger this offseason..I just hope Misi wins that position outright.
I like Anderson's game, to me his problem is to much read and reacting and not enough attacking, he plays more like a nickel Lb a bit to often. Q Moses can attack, but his passrushing moves are really crude
i am happy with Wake concentrating on being a very good / great pass rushing specialist ... coming in fresh, always putting pressure / collapsing the pocket and creating opportunities on the WOLB side for whomever is there along with CB / S blitzes. We will get more from the weak side than JP could give us last year -- and that alone makes us better against the pass ... not forgetting an improved penetrating DL, better ILBs and more experienced DBs to go along with the pass rush. just don't whiff on the chance to tackle / sack the QB this year .... still remember that play ... ouch ....
Good analogy dj, in fact if you rewind time to about 97 or 98, you could have written the same post about JT....of course, JT did develop into more than just an 'hand in the dirt' pass rusher, but Wake likely has the same athleticism and general build and strengths as JT had back then. What he does with all that going forward is the question...
Honestly, I think that playing a full season is going to show us all what a tremendous talent this guy is ... I am psyched to see what happens with Wake!
