Martin Prado led the team in hits and had less than 10 RBIs until yesterday batting from the second spot. I really can't comprehend how that could be a good spot for Heyward. I guess they're counting on Prado to hit a ton of doubles. In my humble opinion Jason Heyward in any spot besides three, four, or five is the wrong answer.
Chipper has been scratched and Heyward has been moved to the third spot for tonight according to MLB network.
Ok, I'm LOVING this lineup. It could be a complete coincidence, but watching the Braves get their highest hit total of the season AFTER Bobby finally puts out a lineup we all want, is pretty funny. Heyward, Mac, Glaus in the middle of the order is nothing to sneeze at. If we put Prado at leadoff and Chipper second (broken record) then I think we'll have a consistent offense.
I think where a guy hits is overrated. What I mean by that is, I doubt Jason Heyward feels any more pressure in the 3 hole than he does the 6 hole. I'm speaking from personal experience, and Jason Heyward is infinitely better than I ever was (goes without saying). Now, how a lineup is constructed is another story. But I think J-Hey can handle the 3 hole and I honestly believe he'll do even better there.
Wow, a blowout sweep basically. This lineup really seems to be working. Salvaging a .500 road trip after the way it started is a pretty big deal. They seemed lifeless not too long ago but maybe they can crawl back into this race after all.
The pitching has been good all year. Pen has also been solid. If they can score 4 runs a game they have a chance win just about every game. Also, you can go ahead and pencil Hinske in LF for the foreseeable future.
Yeah. He's pulling a Martin Prado off of the bench. I don't know how you could sit him for Melky Cabrera or Matt Diaz right now.
I guess a great way to answer being routed is with an even bigger rout. Of course Arizona's pitching staff is nothing to write home about. But this has to be the most productive the Braves' lineup has been all season with no hits from Jason Heyward. He actually seems to be in a little bit of a slump though he's still drawing walks.
love the Hinske move... glad to see the team getting the wheels back on. good baseball times for me right now between the Braves and my Gamecocks gunning for an SEC title.
And stole third base and was on the front end of a hit and run with Glaus. The announcers were saying that Bobby doesn't like to hit and run with the middle of the lineup, but to me when Cox plays small ball he is at his best.
Heyward had himself quite a night. Two doubles and a triple. The last double was a walkoff hit in the bottom of the ninth. The Reds refused to go down, the Braves had to fight for that win. It's just a shame that KK pitched six scoreless and still didn't get his first win of the season.
Feel bad for KK. 6 scoreless with a 4 run lead should get you a win. Too bad for him Saito was pitching for a 3rd straight day. I have nothing left to say about Heyward.
Hanson was horrible today. Too bad. He needs a mean streak. Guys were hanging out over the plate sitting on his fastball and he rarely (if at all) came inside. Someone needs to tell him to start backing guys off the plate. It was obvious Cincy read the scouting report and jumped on him early in the count.
He does suck, he went 0-5 and the team still scored 7 runs in the 9th to win the game just to spite him.
I got home just in time to see that walkoff grand slam. I don't know if it would have even went over without hitting that left fielder's glove. No complaints about the Braves bench this season. What a clutch hit. Sportsouth had a great shot of a Reds fan in the stands at the Ted with his mouth hanging open in disbelief. That was a good homestand. They would not be denied for two days in a row against a red hot Cincinnati team.
The game was on the radio at work, so even when Hanson was bombed for 8 runs, the game stayed on, and Powell kept on saying "Jason Heyward will hit a Grand Slam in the 9th inning to win the game". Lemke said "it's your script" And sure enough bases loaded, bottom 9...JHey strikes out with the bases loaded..nonplussed Powell said 'change of script, Brooks will hit a grand slam to win the game..." Fun stuff.
I got home in time to see the end, but I was listening to the radio feed via my Mlb at-bat app on my phone. I stopped listening in the 3rd inning. How about all the people who left when it was 9-1?
The Reds were working Hanson and it did seem like the game was over because the Braves seemed to be mailing it in after the reds jumped out to that lead.
Manhandled the Pirates tonight. Hudson was his usual self and there's really nothing more to say about Heyward. Nine homers and 32 RBIs for him as of right now.
I can't recall the last time a Braves game was completely untelevised. It looks like tonight's is. I don't always watch the games on the weekend but it's nice to have the option.
The NL All-Star voting numbers will be released in a couple hours. I expect Heyward to have some decent figures. Besides Bruan, Ethier and Kemp, I can't think of any other OF'ers more deserving. And Ethier is hurt, and may not even be back in time. Even though these things are a popularity contest (see AL numbers from yesterday) it would still be nice to see J-Hey get some props.
Results released, Heyward is currently 5th in the voting (among OF'ers). Ahead of him are Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Ryan Bruan and Andre Ethier.
Five Phillies are the top vote getters at their spots (3B: Polanco, SS: Rollins, 2B: Utley, 1B: Howard, CF: Victorino) and Werth deserves to be the starting RF.
That's open for debate. Braves fans, anybody notice that Chris Resop has been tearing up AAA as a starter? he apparently has an opt out clause in his contract that says he has to be called up by June 15th, traded, or released, so he may get a shot with the big team soon and/or be a chip in a trade at some point this summer. his stat line in Gwinnette: Resop has a 2.03 ERA with 10.4 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9. He has not been pitching deep into games, but he has allowed just 34 hits in 48.2 innings. and he is only 27 years old.
YOU SAID HIS NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But seriously, he's done that before. He tore up Spring Training a couple years ago as well. Minor League hitters can be put away with a heavy fastball. Major League hitters will just swing earlier, and they have off of Treesap. It's the reason he hasn't been called up yet. They even called up Christian Martinez and Craig Kimbrel instead. He is a last resort right now. /still hate him
maybe he'll keep playing well enough to become worth a good prospect in return towards the end of July.
Maybe. Although no one except the Braves even bothered to invite him to camp last offseason. His attitude and work ethic are well known around the league. The Marlins and Angels both dealt the guy not necessarily because of how he performed on the field, but how he acted off it and especially in the clubhouse. He's also a one pitch pitcher. His curveball has been horrible for some time. Maybe he's developed it a bit more. In High School, when he pitched, he threw 92. That was it. If you could hit it, go ahead. That's why he's struggled so much in the Majors. Not to mention he was drafted as a hitter in the first place. I hate rooting against Braves players. Good thing I don't know any Dolphins who were huge ***** in High School
