Originally signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Montana, the Cowboys signed Procter off the Lions' practice squad in 2005. Procter made his NFL debut in 2007, and has started 13 of 44 games for the Cowboys over the last three seasons.

A restricted free agent tendered by the Cowboys at the "Second Round" level this off-season, Procter was set to earn $1.759 million dollars in base salary prior to his release last Monday. Upon his release, Procter paid free agents last week to the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Dolphins.

By signing with the Dolphins, Procter reunites with Tony Sparano, his former line coach with the Cowboys, who is now the Dolphins' head coach. Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland was the Cowboys' Director of College and Pro Scouting when they signed Procter off the Lions' practice squad, and Dolphins president Bill Parcells was the Cowboys' head coach in 2007.

With Miami in the process of trading guard Justin Smiley to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Procter adds veteran depth along the interior of the Dolphins' offensive line, and could push Joe Berger and Jake Grove for the starting center job.

I really hope thats it for the O-Line changes. I mean I want a dominant impressive O-Line, but does anyone else remember the last two years? It's felt like the constant changes have caused the line to take extra long to gel. I'd really like to have something cemented where we at least can let 4/5 of the line get a good 2-3 years together. I mean the only positions that are consistent are the tackles. I guess if Thomas and Grove stick it out as starters it won't be as much of a worry.

Ugh, I just don't think I can deal with having the season get deflated by watching it begin with our linemen getting pancaked again this year.

Exactly. I think this seals the deal on Grove...who might actually get traded to some team. I think they think Berger is as good as Grove and Proctor is a legit backup. They are going to save the money and pick up a fifth or sixth rounder for Grove.

Believe me, I am not a tin foil hat wearing psycho, but I honestly believe there was something between Smiley, Grove and Sparano, the Oline coach and Tuna that made this whole ball of wax melt. Do not know anything and no conspiracy theory but I just get a feeling once they dumped Smiley, his egotistical buddy, Jake, was next in line. Probably just my bent mind starting to go on fire.

I don't think it's anything more than comparing cost with production. If you get equal production but one is cheaper, it's logical to go with the cheaper option.

Yep. Grove makes a lot of coin. People forget, the cap comes back in 2011 and if you can unload a nice chunk of change for the same production for a real small chunk of change then, yeah, do it.

Wasn't the large part of Groves Guaranteed money paid last season ? To be perfectly honest, I thought it was a sham from the get go when this kid won the Rimmington award for Colleges best center. It was a bigger sham when Oakland backed the money truck in and paid him then he went straight to the dumper.

Sure, maybe the FO jumped on him but look at the situation they have managed to put themselves in now. Lots of young, promising players, players that HAVE played and performed well at a fraction of the cost. When the season is over, they can choose who they would like to keep and give some coinage too. I have never been a fan of Jake Grove since he entered the NFL. Nothing personal and do not hate his college or anything, I have strained to see what all the draft experts and teams have seen in this kid. I mean he has made a kings ransom already from Oakland and now here and there are many players as good or better then him making far less money. He HAS to have pictures of Goodell with a female donkey or something.

I think so too. Sparano just about already adopted Incognito, likes Berger and likes this kid we just drafted. Add to that the other younger players we have at G and C and it all spells a large Orange moving van backing up to the Grove residence prior to the season starting. If they got a shot at Atogwe, the money is there is Grove is not there and it will not hurt us next year when the cap comes back.

I think it is an excellent investment.

P.S. Grove is our starting center & captains the offensive line, he is not in jeopardy of losing that position or being traded. Berger, along w/ Incognito are quality-starter backups.

Why no fan urgency to know what number Cory Procter will wear? Not as interesting as Brandon Marshall? Anyway, he's been assigned No. 61.

I'm iffy on Procter. My nephew is a Cowboys fan, and I watched a lot of their games with him last year. It seemed that many times someone was getting beat on the 'boys o-line, it was Procter...
He was filling in a lot at guard for some injuries they had there.

not to be disagreeable 23, but Grove is not a 'lock' to make this team ... due to his injury history. we won't 'dump' him like we did with Smiley ... and there has to be legitimate options to do it ... but

Berger can play C, Garner showed he can play C, and Thomas might even get another shot at it .... now you add in Procter ... so, it is entirely possible -- but the results have to be there 1st ....
