"The deal hinges on Smiley passing a physical. Stay tuned." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/05/24/fins-trade-justin-smiley-to-jacksonville/
open mouth insert foot......I was like they arent going to get anything for him on another thread......good job Miami FO.....serious I would be really happy if they pulled of a 5, crazy excited if they got a 4, but expect a 6th.....
Jeff_Darlington Just confirmed @ProFootballTalk's report that Justin Smiley was traded to the Jags. Source says Miami got a "late-round pick" in return.
Same here. I didn't think anyone would give up a pick of any kind. Jesus JAX must be desperate for O-Line help.
Jeff_Darlington I'm told Smiley trade got done Friday -- but he hasn't passed physical. That's a big snag since his shoulder is the reason Miami traded him.
To the rather large 'Oh just cut him, why waste time, you'll never get anything for him' crowd: Once Again, Bill Parcells knows more than you. BP clearly leads with the 'there's a sucker born every minute' philosophy. And he's right.
I think there were more concerns about BP showing his hand before smiley was dealt which almost and should have caused us to get nothing.... I dont think many just wanted to do another Mcmicheal and Roth situation...
I see what you're trying to say but I hardly consider getting a 7th round draft choice for a guard that you signed to a 25 million dollar contract and who started for us last season anything spectacular.
If he passes a physical, especially a more rigorous one based on the circumstances, then there's really nothing out of the ordinary here. Other than JAX getting the better end of the deal.
As opposed to letting him work out....develop one of those nagging injuries of his....get no draft pick whatsoever and be stuck with his salary that prevents any last minute FA signing. Cause lets face it.......that was the likely scenario with the 'don't show your hand' crowd.
Guess it's time to cheer for 'ole #65 one last (first) time. Let's go Justin, pass that physical bro!
Its too bad, Smiley was the very first big name free agent this regime signed. Now it makes you wonder about Jake Groves future.
It's kind of sad to see the guy go, but I'm glad he'll get another shot on another team. I loved reading/listening to his interviews. He was really team oriented, and barring his injuries would definitely have been kept in Miami for at least a few more years. Good luck to him.
yeah its nice, but dont get ur hopes up for that 7th rounder...believe me I am a huge advocate of getting something for everybody....this guy I was convinced nobody wanted him.... How does Miami trade Smiley, but have to let go Porter......the bonus??
Have to disagree on Smiley being a big name free agent. The 9ers cut him becaue of his injuries up there. Smiley was not bad but I do not think teams were throwing cash on bon fires trying to sign him. Just my opinion on him. If this went down Friday then we will hear by the endof today if he passed a physical. Wonder if he can take the physical in segments. Take the urine test then get a shot in the shoulder and take the strength and agility the next day ? If indeed a trade did happen friday then he is taking a physical today. If nothing is mentioned that he took it today then something is up and its being delayed, probably for good reason.
even a 7th rounder is great, especially with how miami used their late picks this year to trade up a bit
I spent some time with Smiley in the Ritz Carlton bar in Atlanta. He is a real nice down to earth guy that truly thinks about the fans. I wish him the best of luck.
I have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few players and all of them were as pleasant and happy as the day is long. Off the field they are regular people, big people but no different then us here on the board.
agree when I met Mark Dennis and Shane Burton those guys were huge Stoyanovich not so much clayton was ignoring me till I put out the cigarette Cox wasn't happy until I brought up East St. Louis.
E. St. Louis, dude, Muy Mal, Muy. You get off the wrong exit there you may never get back on the highway.
The exam is this morning, he passes and Miami gets Jax 7th rounder....probably a 1st half of the 7th too....
Negative on that Sir......not official yet......below is as of 9:51am today per rotoworld..... Justin Smiley has agreed to restructure his contract if he passes Tuesday's physical and joins the Jaguars via trade. Smiley is believed to be undergoing the medical now or sometime in the next few hours. The extent of the restructuring is unknown, but he was due $2.9 million in 2010 salary previously. Smiley collected $1.9 million in 2009.
an apparently it is a conditional pick too...per Vito Stellino Jags gave up a conditional seventh round pick for smiley, who also agreed to restructure his contract.
Agreed. Had the chance to meet him a few times before last season when he did some business with my company. Came in with his son. Really cool guy.
just transmitting what I read an hour ago. can't always believe what you read. however, should be done today, if it hasn't already been finalized.
yeah Darlington reported it was done on Friday the 21st...but he hasnt taken the exam yet....which I am starting to sweat a little...hahahah IDK y??
It takes 48 hours for the cortizone shots to start working properly mostly due to the swelling they cause. You can bet your sweet bipppy they pumped a lot of that crap into him between Friday and Friday evening, maybe even Thurs.
ITS OFFICIAL NOW............ Adam_Schefter Jaguars G Justin Smiley passed his physical. Trade from Dolphins to Jags for late-round pick now official.
Surprised we got something for him. Also be surprised if its more than a 7th. 6th would be a surprise to me.
