We are going to have 3 all-stars in our starting 5. Gonna be hard.

The simple fact is that the big men and PG's in this draft are weak.

I hate the NBA draft.. its so freaking worthless...

We cant get a starter at 40% of the starting positions? In the middle of the first round? Come on...

Not 100% with you on that Sect, the fact of the matter is the way the NBA does business in the form of talent development...sucks...there I said it.

Rondo was a Sun for example, the truth of the matter is the NBA rarely allows young players the minutes they need to develop and to show what they can do on the court.

The NFL you build through the draft. The NBA you build through various trades and max FA signings. You might get lucky once in a while(Wade), but most of the time you're drafting a player to spend a year in a summer league or in Europe, or they ride the bench. It's not just Riley who does this, many other coaches do as well. The NBA draft is basically worthless as is, I think the lottery is detrimental to the league. I'd rather they do it more like the NFL, by overall record.

The lottery is definitely worthless. It didn't even help the Knicks win a title as originally intended.

Getting Eric Bledsoe in the draft could be the answer at PG. I like how Bledsoe plays. He's a tough kid who can handle the ball well. Actually I like any player from last season's Kentucky team. That team was loaded with talent. I still don't get how they missed the championships.

On a another subject, I'm predicting we get Wade, Bosh and Joe Johnson. I'm not a Rudy Gay fan. I think Johnson has more ability to create his own shots. If Riley wants a build to a dynasty he must get young players who have cohesion and I think after the last Olympics, Wade jelled with both Bosh and Johnson.

It's very hard to build through the draft in the NBA. It's very rare you actually pick up a franchise player or even some support players who can play together as a team. It's not impossible though. I don't think Riley wants to keep his picks anyway. I'm sure he is thinking for the "now" and will trade them away. Chalmers and Beasley are still projects and I don't think he wants anymore players to develop even if Beasley gets traded.

It really is. Its my biggest problem with the sport. Their drafts are so worthless... so the only way to really improve your team is through the trading of contracts and such... which is so lame.

    Yet...you hate Beasley.

The simple fact of the matter is that the Rondo's of the league are lightning bolts from the gods. Pure dumb luck. Like drafting Marques Colston in the 7th round of the NFL draft.

College players don;t project...it is a different game. Some times players don;t develop till they actually "develop".

Chauncey Billups was a complete bust and a terrible player for SIX (6) Seasons. (and a total "loser" by your standards, he made the playoffs in his 5th season.) SIX SEASONS of bust talk. He got traded all over the league....he finally finds his way to the Pistons. he has a decent season in his 7th season.

Since that 7th season...he has built a hall of fame career. HALL OF FAME.

Odd, Rondo was dumb luck, and Gasol was a giveaway deal, the two teams that have won 25 0f 50 NBA titles the Lakers and Celtics seem to get "lucky" regularly.

    Perhaps it isn't "luck"?

Beasely is a marshmellow, soft and pliable, Billups always had attitude even if his game didn't match his aggressiveness, but he was always aggressive, Beas isn't, you cannot teach that Sect.

I won;t bother to point out how ridiculous that statement is.

Hint....Danny Ainge was rumored to be fired the summer he made the Garnett deal.

The greatest GM in NBA history was probably Jerry West.

Jerry West was the guy that got screwed by Mitch Cupshack in the Gasol deal.

The guys running the Lakers and Celtics NOW.......have no more championships than the Heat has.

it is popular to call Beasley soft. Amare was called soft. Pau Gasol earned the nickname of Gasoft. As for Beasley, he is 21 years old with a resume so far that suggests that he is going to be good. Any piling on at this point, quite frankly, looks like opportunism and nothing more intelligent than that.

OH..and Billups had attitude? BUT..By your standards..he was a loser.

I mean..if Rudy Gay is terrible by being a non playoff performer for 4 years while playing great...then what is Billups since he played TERRIBLE and was a non playoff performer for his first 5 years?

The Miami Dolphins have two super bowl championship and also went undefeated...so that proves that Jeff Ireland is a great judge of talent.

You do recall that Ainge was playing for the Blue Jays when the Celtics "got lucky"?

See, this keeps happening over and over again..

Gasol led a putrid Memphis Team to the playoffs, he is soft, as the Celts worked him inside in 08, the lakers however can adjust to that with Odom (learned how to win in Miami) and Bynum.

Heck come to think of it, Bynum is the only player the Lakers drafted in their starting lineup, they traded for everyone else and signed Artest as a FA.

Here is one of the differences:

Billups rarely played as a newbie, once he had a chance to start *gosh* the Pistons were making playoff runs year in and year out, Gay has started, the Grizz have been Grizzley even with him in the lineup.

Hah! One merely showed a lack of mastery of quote tags...:D

the year the Heat surprised everyone in the playoffs, Odom, Butler, Wade et al learned how to play winning basketball, ditto Billups in Detroit.

Danny Ainge was a NBA prospect who turned down the league to play MLB, the Celts drafted him and bought out his contract with the Blue Jays he wound up being on the Celts Championship teams in the 80's and being a huge contributor.

Odd, he was traded halfway through his rookie season, then rarely played, then was injured/inactive in Orlando then wound up with the T-Wolves, who made the playoffs every year he was there, then he went to Detroit, and gosh, they then went to the playoffs every year for the next 7 seasons...

That, is a "Winner' Mr Sect, there was no "6 SEASONS OF LOSERDOM" as by 03, he had already been to the playoffs with the Twolves and Pistons on multiple occasions.

There is no such thing as a "winner". If you get good stats(avg 20 and 10 as a PF for instance) and you do it at an efficient rate, you are a good player, end of story. What Rudy Gay has done in his 4 years in memphis dwarfs whatever Billups didhis first 4 years, min may have made the play offs with him, but the man was averaging less than 10 points and less than 4 assists a game, he wasnt the reason why he was in the playoffs. Not to mention for his career he is a less efficient than Rudy Gay, .416-.455, if we do just billups first four years his average is a pedestrian .379

The fact Gay scores at such an efficient rate when surrounded by such bozos is actually a testament to his talent, if you're a chucker your efficiency goes down, not up. And using your logic Padre, if we bring Rudy, he'll "learn to win" after one season in which Wade alone will take us to the playoffs.

BTW, Mark Cuban is a Grade A *******.

Does this boob know the rules? Or does he just not care?

For those that don't know..he openly talked about doing a sign and trade for Lebron James yesterday.

The NBA is going to investigate and surely issue a fine.

So ALL the teams with cap space get warned about not naming ANYBODY by name till July 1st and this moron goes out and starts negotiating a deal with Lebron in the Press.

Your opinion, the facts say what they say.

And would this be a good time to point out that Billups at least made the playoffs in MN, Gay has only seen them on TV?

So your argument is that you would rather have the bad player that gets swept in the playoffs than the great player that doesn't make them.

The facts do say what they say. They are on my side..remember?

BTW...Rudy Gay comes to Miami...he will make the playoffs every year of the contract he signs here. So then he becomes a "winner".

    so ridiculous.

Ira Winderman speculates today that Amare Stoudemire's bad WCF performance..is hurting his VALUE..and that he is dropping from MAX status...(which is good for us)

    But that begs the question....

Does that scare us (The heat, Riley, the Fans) away? Do we now want Chris Bosh at all costs? and Amare is the consolation prize?

I KNOW this...Wade thinks Amare's game fits him MORE. Oddly enough..the best P&R PF of the available is Carlos Boozer...but Riley doesn't seem to want him at any "inflated" price.

The one combination NOBODY talks about is this....why not Bosh and Boozer? You get your P&R player..you get alot of rebounds added to your team...

I dont think this one specific comment is going to result in anything... other than a fine that Cuban is happy to pay, and I dont blame him.

I think Cubans constant *****ing, moaning, talking, for multiple years might have some effect on some calls from the refs.

However, I dont think this one specific comment is going to have any specific consequences... other than a fine, which is well worth a shot at LeBron.

That's an interesting idea. I think it will depend on how the market shapes up. I don't really think of Boozer as a MAX player, but I have no problem with him as a junior MAX. I wonder how many teams will be willing to pay Boozer the MAX?

Riley looks like he's trying to go the Parcells route, staying away from injury prone players like Boozer who misses time almost every year. Boozer is the 3rd best PF/C type available and I'm not really that sure he is that much better then a David Lee who has a very complete and efficient game (though his stats would drop outside of D'Antoni's offense); why make him a priority unless Wade wanted him? With your cap space you should be looking at a younger, better player like Bosh or Amare.

If I was a heat fan I would also take a Rudy Gay over Boozer. Lets say for instance you resign Wade (likely) and you land Amare. You have Beasley in place and he cannot play the 3 from what I have seen as hes too slow defensively. Assuming Beasley is still there you will need a good wing player who can play defense more then a PF who rebounds and is a marginal defender and not a shot blocker. Rudy routinely averages around a block and more then a steal per game. The reason thats important is the same reason a guy like Lamar Odom is important to the Lakers; he adds length and he's difficult to play against. Boozer is a 6'9" PF who is marginal on defense. He doesnt really intimidate anyone. He's really not any better then what Beasley will be if Beasley reaches his potential. Gay is about the same size as Boozer height wise and has a longer winger span. He's quicker, younger, and hasnt tapped his potential. Boozer is at his peak right now and while he will always be a good inside player and rebounder, he will probably only get worse from here.

Sec... have you heard any interest in Iggy in the past? Can't recall whether or not I've heard his name come up.

But I know one thing and that is that Philly will be taking Evan Turner with the #2 overall draft choice. Iggy will be on the trade block this summer. They were on and off about trading him at the deadline earlier this year... now with Evan Turner, he will surely be moved at some point in the near future. I'd love to make a move for Iggy, especially if Bosh or Amare is our guy come free agency... he's under contract for $12 million, which becomes $7-8 million with Beasley included. We'd still have some cap space left to build around Wade/Bosh/Iggy.

Even better if we could swing Beasley/James Jones/Cook/1st for Iggy/Speights. That would equate to Miami taking back only about $2-3 million, leaving us with around $8 million left to fill up the roster.

It's an option after Joe Johnson, Rudy Gay, & John Salmons.
