Does Chad Pennington have a legitimate chance to start this year??

It is possible Henne doesn't get it done. Say we are 2-6 with Henne starting and Pennington is healthy......does Pennington get the nod???

Yah Damn Skippy he better get the nod. Then Again Tyler Thigpen is our 2nd String QB and we arent sure if Penningtons shoulder injury is gonna effect his accuracy,

So Yeah Thigpen gets that first nod then maybe pennington and If Worse comes to worse then Pat White

I can only see that happening if Henne is Jamarcus Russell bad, which I don't think is possible.

It depends on if Henne is the reason we are 2-6. If we were 2-6 I would guess it would have more to do with busting out on young defensive players we were counting on to make an impact.

But if Henne was the reason, then I think you plug in the QB that gives you the best shot to win games. At 2-6 playoffs wouldn't be completely out of the question.

yes, it is not only possible but probable. there will be competition @ all levels in 2010. we need to win & now is the time for Henne to step up or step down.

Wow, you really think it's 'probable'....???

I see it as highly unlikely. I'm not too sure why they brought Penny back at all, if they really feel that White can be the guy they want him to be or perhaps they don't. I don't share that optimism about White.

Something has to happen on the QB front that changes the dynamic we now have. Thiggy will have an offseason and TC to acclimate his game to our offense. Penny is more than capable but his physical limitations are apparent. Henne is the man, at this point. I don't really see any reason he'd flop quite that badly that they feel they needed to replace him. Afterall, he's going thru the offseason and TC as the starter, not like last year where he got the second most snaps with the first string. Thigpen has shown some good things as well, or they wouldn't have gone after him, even tho I know that at the time we acquired him, we needed some solid depth at QB. They had figured out that White was no where near being ready at that point, so they had to do something. While Thigpen was an acquisition of need, it wasn't an acquisition of desperation either. It was well thought out. He does some of the things they wanted White to do very well.

The enigma is White. Is he a QB ?? Will he be moved to a WR, RB, KR or whatever ?? Who's place on the final roster will he occupy ?? Unfortunately, he may end up replacing Thigpen who is a better candidate than White at QB and that's a shame...

Well, the reality is young Qb's tend to play 16 games per season, they rarely get injured, meaning Henne by an overwhelming probability will start for all 16 games and all of the 'keep Thigpen, get rid of White" or whatever combination is a WOT.

I love Penny, chances are good he doesn't see the field for Miami during the Regular Season, I hope he shows enough during Training Camp and the preseason for us to trade him.

"if" his arm is 100% he is a proven starting Qb in the NFL who wins games for his team and that makes him a valuable commodity.

I don't think this will happen.

Bottom line guys, if we're 2-6, and we have to make a change at QB midseason, we're not only not going to the superbowl, the fate of our franchise is in serious jeopardy.

If we have a QB issue, we honestly want to try and finish as mediocre to awful as possible and hope to draft up and grab someone next year that can start. Because Pennington does not have enough left in the tank, and Thigpen has not really shown he can be "the guy." Oh and wow, I totally forgot about White when writing this up. That should tell you something...

That said, I don't see that happening. Henne is going into his 3rd year, and was hot and cold, but I think he was more often than not hot than he was cold.

absolutely not. Penny is washed up. If we're 2-6, does anyone here actually think that Penny will turn things around? I hope not.

If Henne regresses, and is looked upon as a liability by Sparano and Co., and/or is injured, then I think Thigpen will likely be next in line to take the reigns. Assuming he isn't dealt between now and then that is (which, I sincerely hope he isn't). Matter of fact, wasn't it already declared that Penny is 3rd on the depth chart?

Not even Ryan Leaf is Jamarcus Russell bad. Hell, not even Ray Lucas. Certainly not Henne; no possibility of that. Not in a million years. Let Pennington be a player-coach and the best insurance policy in the NFL. Pay him.

IF (and a big if) Henne shows improvement during the offseason and TC, Thigpen does well and somehow White shows something, then Penny would, in that case, be the odd man out given his injury issues. As good of an "on the field coach" as he is, keeping him gets some youngster who might need more time to develop from getting that time. We know what Penny can do, the question is his health. They know what to expect from Henne. They aren't sure about White or Thigpen. Thigpen has some starting experience and seems to be a capable backup at the very least. We don't know that about White yet. Perhaps he'll suddenly show some of the stuff he was famous for at WVU, but I don't know that I want to hold my breath. He's another college QB that is just another player at this level.

We have other needs, specifically at the returner spot. If White either shows some ability there or isn't any worse than guys like RGM, Pruitt or Sheets, then he may stick there. This question of who'll be cut at Whites expense is the big question in camp behind perhaps who our starting FS will be....

pennington is a last resort behind henne and thigpen
they will be patient with henne and not go slinging the hook too early if we start slow which is very likely. maybe not due to henne but our defense will struggle.anyways pennington won't see the field this season imo. he is here to teach and be an insurance policy. not to play unless we are desperate.

a healthy Chad Pennington is always an option,
    never a last resort

Penny could have a dead arm for all we know. yes he is an option because he is on the team but only as a last resort
they brought him back and named him the third string QB
not to play but to teach
If we are desperate he could play

my take is absolutely postively N-O ... barring an injury -- he is just a veteran safety outlet ... one i hope we don't have to use.

Sparano has already named Henne the starter..

plus if pennington were to start, trading for Marshall would be for not

Look, I don't care what the depth chart says currently, the back-up at this point is Pennington. Regardless of arm strength, he is the best 2nd option on the team. And I like Thigpen alot, I think he has real potential.

If we are 2-6, Pennington would be the option to try to save the season.

respectfully disagree but it's all about ifs:

    1) if Henne does not step up, he will be forced to step down
    2) if Pennington is healthy, he is the best option we have @ QB
    3) if there were no ifs, we would not need Thigpen

although these are ifs, they could become reality

    :omg:
Miami is ready to initiate a serious
    & punishing campaign in 2010
(no time for pampering or favoring, the rubber will meet the road)
I think Chad Henne will exceed expectation
& solidify his position as Franchise QB
however, should he stumble & fall
a healthy Chad Pennington has proven he can carry the offense
if not healthy, the Thigpen gives us the best chance @ winning
I refuse to anoint anyone. Show me on the field. Compete!

I think I agree on all points. Henne is the future here and the future is now. Pennington has every thing you could want in a QB except his arm is suspect. Think about it this way he is Greise's, Earl Morral or Woodley/Marino's, Don Strock.

I am happy to have the both of these guys.

Pennington is obviously the 2nd best QB on the team. And contrary to a previous post I think Marshall would do quite well with Pennington given his size and physical ability, if you get him the ball quickly and in stride that is when Marshall is the most dangerous in space.

Penney's job is to rehab and counsel Henne. If he sees the field this year, then disaster has struck our QB crew. Penney is not a viable option this year. Even if, and that is a very big if, Henne just stinks it up, Penney will be the last to see the field and even then I would speculate that we would try to bring someone else in.
