No link, my local news reported it... He collapsed at his home in Walterboro SC, and died soon after, an autopsy is to be performed. He was 37. He was a 5th round draft pick in 1995, and played with Miami, SD, NO, NYG, and Seattle before returning in 2004. My brother played against him in high school, in addition to being a DT, he played tight end in high school and was pretty darned good fora big guy.
I remember seeing him in training camp. Massive dude. Couldn't get on the field here before developing in San Diego.
37 is too young here is a link http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/05/14/former-nfl-defensive-tackle-dies-at-37/
He played with Tim Bowens at Ole Miss for a season. They may have also played JC ball together. Hand was always considered more athletic than Bowens. Of the two though, even coming into the league with a single partial season of major college experience, Bowens made a seamless transition to the pros. It took Norman a few seasons. Too bad we did not keep him a little longer, but with Bowens and Gardener ahead of him, he may not have ever realized his potential had the Phins kept him. On the other hand, had Hand exploded as a rookie the way Bowens did a year before, we may have never drafted Gardener. Perhaps JJ would have taken Ray Lewis instead. Then we may have not drafted Zach though. RIP big guy, you were a fine player.
RIP Norman, may the peace of God reign in the minds of your loved ones. Way too young to go so soon, terrible.
