Ok, how about this......Take away the playoff aspect.... Would you rather watch marino, during a regular season game, light up the field all game, but loose a game 51 to 45....or would you rather watch wanny and fiedler put 10 points on the board in the 1st quarter then sit on it, eventually squeaking out a win 10 to 6? Woo hoo!! Post# 13!!!!
One constant I had in my life back then is I knew on Dolphin game days Dan Marino would excite and make you feel proud to be a Dolphin fan. And yes that fake spike is one of my all time favorite Dolphin/Marino memories and thats including the fact I was a fan during the Griese/Czonka era W/Superbowls.
manning lost games because of defense imo. The colts found teams they couldn't outshoot, and their defense couldn't hold. As a pure passer manning over brady any day.
two games, both losses to the Patriots in th eplayoffs I believe. One he cried about the DBs, got the NFL to change or enforce the 5 year rule. Coincidentally, allowing both QBs to break Marino's record which stood for decades. Second game, another loss, crying about his oline and its problems with "protection." Manning is just not clutch enough. recall the game against NE during their 18-1 run. Manning was one of our last hopes. They had the lead, Brady goes down and does what he does best, score. Manning had one last chance and I was praying for a TD to go back ahead and deny the Pats a win. Nope. Failure. In the Super Bowl, they had 5 minutes left, and were down. what does Brady do but drive down the field and score a TD? his only fault, doing it so quickly, and a dropped INT by assante samuel and the catch of the century is the only things keeping our unbeaten record alive. Manning just doesn't have the huevos, the cajones. the MOJO
you could say the same for brady since he lost in the super bowl. How many opportunities did the patriots have that game? Bradys a good qb but his ability is not as good as mannings. If its just leadership you are looking for then you really can't put either in front of the other as both have had game winning drives and both have played and won in the big one. Manning has had plenty of success to win the game at the last minute. In fact he did it in the playoffs the year they won the superbowl.
That throwing motion...almost the antithesis of motion, really. More of a flick. So economical...so deadly. Makes me weep with nostalgia.
excellent description and that is just the arm and his throwing motion no one has mentioned the amazing footwork for a guy who couldn't move he had the best side step i've ever seen
Keep hating on Manning. As a pure passer he is the closest thing to Marino. Brady doesn't even come close.
Brady has lost sure. Never said he was invincible. But he's converted a lot more opportunities then Manning. Because I say Brady is better at it doesn't mean that Manning sucks at it or has never done it. Again, the time they lost the superbowl, whatever chances he had, the final one with 8 minutes to go, he goes down and scores and eats u 5 minutes off the clock. Yes he had one more chance ... with 35 seconds left. But when NE needed him to be, you have to admit, he was clutch, was he not? I do not expect Manning to pull that off. In fact, I can remember just once. That time in 2006 against NE. Manning is weak when it comes to playoff times. All these years he has one moment. Just that one drive. I'd love to see what our boy Dan would have done with Harrison and Wayne and Clark and Faulk/Edge. He would have obliterated the league!
footwork anyone? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9UFBcjml2E&feature=related"]YouTube- DAN MARINO TO IRVING FRYAR MIAMIDOLPHINS[/ame]
I dont believe we have seen Henne use a shoulder or head fake as of yet...thats a clear sign that he is still thinking a 100 mph on his drop...when the game slows for him a bit, he has the talent to make that throw, and many more just like em... Henne has a great ceiling... I hate the fact that Danny never had a running back or a defense that was worth a sh$#.
Henne has a cannon arm, but unless he learns to set his feet before he throws he will never be consistent. Hopefully he can take that step once the game does slow down for him.
Henne may end up being a good QB for us but the comparisons to Dan ended imho the moment Henne stepped onto the field of play. There are just so many little things that, with Dan, you just take for granted that I've never seen Henne do or show in his game. God made Dan and then destroyed the mold. This is not to be taken as a cut on Henne, I hope he is good, in his own right but he's no Dan Marino. Not even close!!
Made it look so easy... Side note: why is the ref seemingly getting mugged toward the end? was there a fight to break up?
Henne has that wind up delivery that makes me cringe every time I see backside pressure comin his way, his awareness about that pressure is my biggest fear for his game..
And that's why he didn't get one. Because his best chances came too early. And his competition was too much. Dan could have easily won a ring if he would have went to the Super Bowl during one of Walsh and the 49ers' down years. He even proved he could beat the Bears. It was fate unfortunately for him to not win. A perfect storm of circumstances always going the other way. Look at the piece of crap team Peyton Manning got to play for his Lombardi trophy. And people use that as a reason why he's better. I hate it when people give QBs so much credit for Super Bowl wins. I despise it even. Football is the ultimate team sport, a million things have to go right to win a championship. One player, even a QB, can't have the same kind of impact as in a game like baseball or basketball. But people can't get that crap through their heads, [talking heads on TV and radio especially] and knock Marino for it. If anything it should be a knock against Shula for not winning a ring with the best QB to ever take a snap.
I agree....I watched him today play the pats Nob, he did a nice job with his footwork, especially on the run.really nice in his drop, fundamentally played a very nice football game.
Dan was amazing. Just flicking the ball effortlessly 60 yards downfield...tossing it 50 yards on a rope, seemingly head high the entire time. Marino was what got me watching football as a kid, and made me a lifelong Dolphins fan. There isn't a QB today as exciting to watch...the only one who comes close is Favre, IMO.
No problems, They were an above average defense but not elite. Just trying to get a small amount of perspective. Anyways watching those Marino clips still gives me goosebumps.
remember when we went to the superbowl with Dan I believe, and during the pregame show, they did a skit were the host raced the blackwood brothers? and played it in slow motion...I knew we were toast after that, lol.
