According to several articles I've read, the New Meadowlands Stadium is the favorite to host the 2014 SB, ahead of Tampa. At first, I didn't like the idea. Why break up something perfect...which is what I think we have now in the current SB format. But it has grown on me. Of course, some of the most memorable games in NFL history have been played in poor/cold conditions. This would be the first cold-weather Super Bowl. NYC would be a great host for the week leading up. I would like to see it. What are your thoughts?
If the league wants to play a real outdoor Super Bowl, they should do in Green Bay. The tradition of Green Bay is second to none.
That would be pretty cool, but it will never happen. The city of Green Bay offers nothing attractive in the week leading up to the game.
If they move the Super Bowl to a cold weather city the NFL won't really be able to pretend it's a neutral setting anymore. You could potentially be giving some team a distinct advantage, if a cold weather team makes it vs. a warm weather or dome team.
I say, heck yeah, do it and get it over with. Just maybe there'll be a snow storm from hell and it'll be a 3-0 game and the NFL will get it out of their collective system!
I'm fairly neutral on cold weather SB games, but one thing I'm having problems wrapping my brain around: Goodell said a while back that Miami had to upgrade their stadium to stay in the running for future Super Bowls, specifically he didn't like the rain, so he wants a roof of some sort. And now he says NY is the favorite? Isn't winter in NY a lot worse weather (ice, snow, cold as h***) than a warm S FL rain?
they have already played SB's in cold weather cities just never outdoors obviously. SB 16 comes to mind in Detroit (the first cold weather city to host) when it was below zero outdoors and the niners were stuck on the icy road on the way to the dome. as far as playing the SB outdoors in a cold weather environment the NFL is out of their minds imo but with our luck we will be in that game and it will be 10 degrees in a heavy snow storm.
If NY gets one, then Denver should be able to host one also. Crap, we were playing golf in Jan and Feb out here.
I don't have a problem with them holding a SB in an outdoor stadium in the dead of winter. I had no problem when it rained down here either though but the NFL freaked out about it for some reason. If they allow the SB to be played in these situations, football weather and conditions then more power to them. Depending on the year (Where the SB is to be held)it would give both pass heavy offenses and run heavy ones a chance to excel. I would love to see Manning try and put the ball up 50 times a game in a blizzard lol! So in short I am all for it.
Cause all the celebrities and smoozers who go to the Super Bowl want to be in a freaking blizzard. Yeah right. The fans at the super bowl are NOT the same fans that hang out barechested through the regular season. If they were, it likely wouldn't be a big problem, but as it is ...
Having the biggest game in American Sports in the epicenter of the world just makes sense. But I don't know that it makes sense in early February. Personally, I'm one that likes to see this game, above all others, played in optimal conditions. Say what you want, but I want to see both teams have every opportunity to be their best. Not a situation where, say, two high-octane passing offenses are reducing to playing Wanny ball on a slippery field in the freezing snow. Or the pouring rain. And yeah, the NFL is completely hypocritical when it knocks MIA for exposing fans to the elements and then makes NYC the front runner for 2014. This is all about a big fancy stadium in the country's #1 market.
Don't call it a New York Super Bowl. They'd be better off trying to have it at Yankee Stadium. Where are people going to stay and visit? I guess Jersey City. NYC would be a pain in the *** for people who want to take in all the activities that happen around the stadium on Fri and Sat, the traffic is a pain. Plus, most New Yorkers could care less about these types of big events because they just bring more traffic and crowding. I think most were happy NYC lost the bidding for the 2012 Olympics.[I can't imagine what the subways would have looked like]. Although that would have brought way more people. Personally, I don't care because I want to see a snowy Super Bowl, which would be more likely in Green Bay or Chicago which is why I wish they were bidding instead. Of course, the NFL doesn't want that. I hope it snows if they do pick NJ. However, what are visitors going to do when they're not doing NFL related stuff? Visit the armpit swamp? Or how about the beautiful Newark Airport? Maybe the endless fields. Sorry, I had to crack some jokes about Jersey. I secretly like Jersey because they are highly amusing, probably why there are like 20 tv shows about NJ. I would never live there though.
