When I watch Dildo Dobbins, though, Clean, I see a guy constantly in chase/trail position in coverage and who gets left behind by Tight Ends up the middle because he can't flip his hips. So if he's out there on first and second downs, as am offensive coordinator I have my QB audible to a pass to his seam area every time. Sure, Dobbins will stuff the run well for us, but he isn't perfect. We have to accept his warts. Those will come in the form of 18 yard chunk plays to tight ends in his area.
ive seen him cover some ground, he's more fluid in space then crowder..I"ll take him and all his weaknesses strait up right now... One thing Dobbins has to work on imo, is how he takes on his first block, he's so freakin physical when he meets in the hole, he looks like he loses track a little bit of the ball carrier cause he want's to kill the olinemen first..lol If its me, Crowder is a backup on this team, or traded in the preseason.
He isn't perfect, but no matter how extreme you wish to describe his coverage ability, he shows more than Crowder does in every way. Receivers he was covering averaged 9.3 yds per catch, so apparently there were some much shorter completions mixed in with all those 18 yard chunk plays he reportedly allowed in his area. In 2008, receivers he covered averaged 8.7 per reception, so apparently he was doing something besides allowing 18 yard catches down the seam that year too. What is the meaning behind calling him Dildo? That one went over my head I guess. Not a complimentary nickname I'd give to a player I liked.
maybe cause he plays so strait up?...lol Alright this is weird, BK?.. YOU GOT SOME SPLAINING TO DO!!!
From a statitistical standpoint, Dobbins is currently better.. We need an upgrade anyways, and if Dobbins is even as equally good as Crowder, we already win as Dobbins doesnt cost as much, and is a fresh name..
Dobbins strengths seem to outweigh his weaknesses... but he may not see much (or any) of the field against teams like the Colts, Chargers and so on... as they have great receiving tight ends who could kill us for 20 yard catches. That said, I DO like his lateral closing speed once a RB catches the ball. And that he punishes receivers.
lol. yeah, it was a bad attempt at a Bilbo Baggins (Lord of the rings hobbit) reference. I just liked the sound of it, didn't really mean to call him a "Dildo" as such. I love that you bring facts to the party with the 9.3 yds per catch. I am outgunned sir!!! I hope you're right. I just know that what I see of Dobbins on the field would have me salivating if I were a tight end, and trembling if I were a runningback. He DOES punish receovers and close very well to tackle after the catch, so I'd guess his YAC is very low in his area... but that he still gets targeted because receivers/TEs can get separation around him. Also, much of his success will depend on him havinggood support behind him from our safeties... if they perform well, then the seam routes are less dangerous to us. But... if the rookie(s) struggle outside at corner, the safeties may have to provide less middle of the field help (because they'll be out wide more) and that could really expose guys like Dobbins.
Yup. You got it. And I didn't mean it as a slight, but liked the alliteration. Heck, my brother-in-law comes from Dildo, Newfoundland. No joke.
Last night I imagined how we could get Dobbins out there for our goalline personnel... and realized we could have a dominant Goalline defense this year.... Goalline D Will Allen Yeremiah Bell/AJ Edds Karlos Dansby Vontae Davis Koa Misi - Dobbins - Odrick - Soliai - Ferguson - Starks - Langford Good luck getting an inch on THAT crew!
Channing did that sometimes. Other times he wouldn't even chase...just stand there and watch. And with RB's too.
If I could post the many times channing has been decleated while relaxing his body during a play I would....
Hence the reason it went over my head. I'm about as interested in Lord of the Rings as I am in getting a root canal done without Novocain.
dobbins is stiff i see it too he did sack worthlessburger chaser maybe but damn he he did that upgrade over torbor and channing
Crowder is a big lumbering linebacker. When you pop the tape in the DVD you notice that he is a gamer versus the two back running game. Our linebacking core was horrible last year because both of them were terrible in pass coverage. Ayodele was horrible versus the run AND the pass. One only needs to watch the first quarter of the Chargers game to see all of this. In that same game you will notice Tim Dobbins is playing outside linebacker. I dont think the FO picked him up to change his position. Dansby is the Mike. Crowder is the Mo, Ted or whatever you want to call it. He is a two down linebacker that will be on the field based upon personell or run down and distance. And not too many people will complain about it. The real question is will Dobbins unseat Charlie Anderson.
I think drafting 4 LB's, trading for another LB, and rumors of trying for Adalius Thomas is all you need to know what the FO is thinking.
I am tired of Crowder. The guy rarely makes a play in the hole, he's usually tackling from behind 7 or 8 yards downfield and he doesn't cover particularly well (being generous). I don't think many teams are too impressed by him either, he didn't generate ANY interest as I remember in Free Agency and we resigned him for less than he wanted. Roll in this tidbit from the Sentinel today; "Inside linebacker Tim Dobbins Those who label Dobbins as just a throw-in player the Dolphins acquired in the team's draft day trade with San Diego obviously don't realize that as a backup Dobbins produced 55 tackles one sack, one interceptions, and one forced fumble. That's right, he statistically out producing Crowder (52 tackles, one sack, one interception), last year's starter in less playing time." I am really starting to wonder if he will even make the team this year. If it was me I'd be looking to try and trade him to the Lions or someone. I'd take a 5th or 6th for him if you could find a sucker, err team, to bite.
Fox has Dobbins right behind Dansby, and then Spitler. Crowder is 1st in his position with Torbor and Edds behind him. This will surely move around. Dobbins will be starting for this team. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/miami-dolphins/depthchart/67052
too far away from game day to speculate on the unproven & improving let them compete the game is played on the field in pads
Part of the difference between Dobbins and Crowder, is that while Dobbins can fill the role of the thumper, even tho he may not be quite as good as Crowder in that role, Dobbins is much better than Crowder in pass coverage, be that inside crossing routes, delay crossing routes, short curls in the middle to the TEs or covering the back out of the backfield on the edges...we know, already that Crowder cannot do those things. That said, at this point, the only advantage to keeping Dobbins over Crowder would be if the troika and Nolan felt comfortable enough that Dobbins could really replace him. That may be asking a little too much. What Dobbins arrival does, is make Crowder nothing more than a 2 down ILBer (which arguably is all his talent warrants), with Dobbins in on the passing packages along with Dansby, a true every-down ILBer. Dobbins also excels on STs and is a virtual lock to be on the team based on those strengths. If Dobbins finds a way to 'replace' Crowder on 1st and 2nd downs, then Crowder should be looking to put his home on the market. That seems unlikely, but you never know...
It's possible. I just know where I saw him align in our matchup that I watched again just yesterday. He aligned at strongside linebacker. He made a good stop when I noticed him too. I went looking for further alignments. It appears that dude was a backup everywhere. I did find a little gem from the Middle alignment.... http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81520203/Knockin-it-loose
Thanks bro. They have that on NFL.com when you bring up Tim Dobbins stats. It is narrated by Phil Simms.
I think you are wrong about Dobbins playing OLB. When I saw him playing for SD, he was at ILB. ProFootballFocus.com supports this. Last season, every one of Dobbins' 297 snaps were at ILB. In 2008, he played 408 snaps at ILB and ONE snap at OLB. Dobbins is no threat to Anderson. He is a legit threat to Crowder as the starter next to Dansby, and if he does win the job, Crowder may as likely be cut. He is not the STs demon that a backup LB needs to be.
I think it is worth mentioning that with Brian Cushing being suspended for the first 4 games the Texans could be interested in Charlie Anderson to fill that need in the short term.
I am wrong about it. I just went to find the play that I noticed him. He aligned outside of Merriman. It was a blitz.
Crowder could surprise playing w/Dansby, coached by Nolan NFL is seldom kind to Rookies, wouldn't expect too much if Dobbins can get some playing time, learn & contribute it would be a good result. slight no one & let them compete Competition is the Elixir of Success! Embrace it.
