Man, what a bummer. I kept my ODST disc just to check it out, now its going to be available on live without the disc? I've played it a bit the last two nights. The multiplayer is typical halo, which is nice, but theyve added "equipment", so you can sprint, jetpack, power boost, or turn invisible for short bursts of time. I think there are different helmets, and armor packages you can use too, although i'm not sure if they are just for looks, or actually have an impact on gameplay. Either way, its pretty fun in the typical halo sense, and the graphics are much improved, but I dont think its the best looking game i've seen, its sure alot nicer than h3 was. All in all, im pretty happy with it so far.

Anyone who pays attention to my posts in this forum knows that I am a hopless Halo fanboy so when I say this game (at least in its current form) blows then take it for what you will.

All the none power weapons in this game are horrible and of very limited use. The DMR is a decent ranged weapon and the only thing that may save the game IMO but its still not very good in the fight is going on inside 20 feet.

And then there are the armor abilities. Basically what they tried to do is copy elements of COD instead of sticking to what made Halo Halo. Instead of perks you have armor abilities that consist of armor lock, sprint, jet pack, and invis. Problem is the entire Halo model has been built around all players having pretty much equal footing and bungies first attempt at balancing perks has (IMO) failed miserably.

If you have a sword or Hammer you can destroy people with sprint as your ability, and the armor lock breaks up the gameplay because instead of getting in fights that end you shoot a guy a bunch and then he goes into invulnerable mode for 2 seconds or so. Which means you get to shoot him a while, then just sit there, and then finally finish the fight you started 5 seconds ago.

Dont get me wrong, its new and shiny, and lots of people will buy it..... But unless the full game is much, much better then the beta then I dont see this game having a long term following anything like Halo 2 and 3.

In fact it if the full game playing like this I would not be surprised if two or three months after the release of Reach there are more people playing H3 then Reach.

agree 100% with you dolphan117. I added my original feelings about the game in the other thread (you know, original Halo: Reach thread :wink2: ) This doesn't feel like Halo at all to me. The player movement is too slow, I think the armor abilities are kind of lame, and so far the 2 maps they've showed us kind of blow. We'll see what happens on Friday when they release Boneyard and the Invasion gametype.

I'm also a huge Halo fanyboy, having the books and going to midnight launches, hanging out at the ODST truck when it was in town, but this Beta has actually lowered my desire to buy the game. I was gung ho about preordering the Legendary and getting all the cool stuff and now I'm probably just getting the regular version because my friends will all be playing .

I find it plays exactly like Halo 3 but with perks, they just added COD type perks to the game. The graphics look like they are updated which was nice, and the look of the guns make them more rugged. I have enjoyed playing it so far, I have been using the stalker armor the most. I will be purchasing this game when it comes out.

    Same for me.

I too am hoping that the larger maps are better and part of the reason the game seems broken is that we are playing gametypes on maps that really are not suited to it. I have had some fun playing slayer but some of the flag games seem to play horribly on the maps they have out so far.

I am pretty disappointing though, just to give you an idea of how big a Halo diehard I am I have over 10,000 games played of H3.

If Reach ends up sucking I dont know what in the world I am going to do as Halo is all I play. COD maybe?

It seems bungie tried to copy the COD idea of perks but it just doesnt work. IMO H3 was a great game and it worked inside a certain framework of how the game was set up to play. COD has built its own model of perks and weapons that is TOTALLY different from what Bungie has done in the past and it seems like Bungie has tried to combine the two in a way thats just failed.

If I wanted a perk based game I would play COD which IMO does what it does fairly well.

I hope Reach is nothing like COD. I love both franchises, btu COD has been going downhill IMO (COD2 was my favorite). Halo 3, however, is probably the best shooter made IMO (in terms of online play). Love it!

    Same.

I have playing it some more and I will say that my level of hate is dropping. I still really dont like some of the stuff like armor lock and the beatdown system is just stupid but I think part of the problem with the current beta is that there is only a limited handful of maps and some of the gametypes dont play well on them at all.

I still dont think its nearly as good a game as H3 though and needs a LOT of tweaking.
