Apparently Rick Reilly did not like Ireland's questions. No news there.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=5161597

But this is what I found shocking:

Losing to the Rice Owls!!! in 1991!!!! I did not know this about Ireland. I have lost all respect for the man.

    the Owls....

Sounds like Irish lost some dough and 19 years later is still sore.

For every success, there are a million failures. This guy needs to get a clue, IMO.

I have yet to see 1 thread on this site discussing what a crappy kicker Ireland was in college. If I missed it, then I am truly sorry.

I stand by my original comment, losing to the Rice Owls in 1991 is REALLY bad.

Well considering the article you posted in your thread is mostly about the Dez-Ireland situation no one could have really guessed this thread was about how bad of a kicker he was. One would assume you just think the guy sucks in generally based on your thread title.

He was the Chris Chambers of kickers. He could make all the hard ones and he missed all the easy ones.

I'm glad Rick Reilly could be there to chime in on a story that pretty much everyone except a few writers has moved on from. Thanks!

I think his next column will be on Tiger Woods' adultery.

Seriously, I love how he used Richard Pryor's hellacious childhood in defense of Bryant. And John Lennon's and James Brown's. Three people with well-documented problems with drugs, the law and/or relationships in adulthood.

If you want to defend the kid, don't point to people who weren't living in the highly regimented and PR-conscious world that Bryant will. Those three were essentially their own bosses.

I also love how how he even mentions them all together in the same breath. I mean honestly, Dez Bryant has done nothing so far except for embarass himself.

In all fairness to Ireland, if Baylor was a 20.5 point favorite to win, they shouldn't have needed those field goals. Sounds like it was a team fail overall.

And living in a world where their "problems" only added to their legend....

This is a situation where everyone involved on either side and the media need to simply shut up. There's no winning this one.......everybody loses and it's just getting for worse for all

Richard Pryor's arguably the greatest comdeian next to Jorge Carlin.

John Lennon's arguably the greatest songwriter next to IDK Bob Dylan.

James Brown's arguably the greatest soul/r&b/funk musician ever.....

Dez Bryant is arguably the greatest.........

Mr. Bryant should never be in the same sentence as any one of those 3...

    Very good point.

Part of the music/entertainment culture has always been drugs and the like. And they all dove into it head first.

I'm one that has defended Bryant from a lot of this stuff. I just take issue with Reilly arriving late and keeping it all going. And of course, I love being a smartass too.

    Oh...My...God!
Just read this post and now Ireland's demeanor, intensity and pokerface now all add up.

I think this little tidbit of information is the silver lining from a spiraling crapfest. That's gotta be the point where he decided to go over to the dark side...

I guess it depends on what favor of comedy you like. I love them both but Carlin's stuff was on another level IMO.

On the topic of this thread I just wish this would die. I could care less how many rocks Dez's mother sold or how many clients she pleased. I don't care if his father pimped his mother out.

But then on the other hand, the media needs something to keep them going through until camp starts up.

and all three were entertainers that had outlets for there inner turmoil. I don't think football is going to offer that same level of release and his life is going to play out in the media as it already has started.

    Well away from here
    This just in:

Tom Brady couldn't hold off the dynamo that is Drew Henson at Michigan; losing his starting job to a future NFL afterthought. He couldn't hack it college.

I guess in that case Tom Brady is a loser, or just sucks beyond compare. Anyone think otherwise?

    Excellent.

    So what's better....

Being a kicker on a Div. 1 team and missing some big kicks or not being good enough to beat out the Div 1 kicker that misses kicks?

    just saying...

All I care about, is that Ireland can be a great GM. That means hitting on trades [Marshall], Free agents [ Dansby, Starks, Grove] the Draft [Long, Davis, Smith, Langford, Henne]

I could give a RAT AZZ about him kicking a football, unless Carpenter gets hurt and he has to come down and kick from the owners box. NEWS FLASH: I do not care if Sparano missed a block in college either or if Parcells missed a tackle in grade school.

YES! Bingo! we have a winner!

was just having a little fun about a nonsense fact re: Ireland being a kicker and trying to just laugh at how serious we all have taken the Ireland question issue. I clearly underestimated how serious, and sensitive, folks around here are about Ireland. Boredom will do that to you.

    Sorry
