http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/05/03/1611522/the-starting-point.html ``I think I can step right in,'' Jones said during this weekend's rookie minicamp. ``That's what I'm willing and ready to do -- step right in and play.'' I hope he can cause I have zero faith in that anyone else on the roster is the answer to the FS position.
I believe he can win the spot. In fact I will take it a step further and say he will be as a good as Vontae Davis. I think this guy will be that good. But of course that is my opinion.
What do you expect him to say. "Ya know, I'm surprised I got drafted at all, the NFL is really hard and I'm sure I'll suck. Probably get cut before training camp ends. If I do make the team ya'll will be wishing for Gibril to come back. I really suck." I like the attitude, now can he back up his BS or not is the question. And i think we didn't go after a big name free agent for FS for a reason. Clemons was looking good last year.
It is nice to see someone with the confidence and swagger like Vontae... That says something to the coaching staff too. I hope he plays like his highlight reel, then we'll be scaring some people!
I'm not about to give up on Chris Clemons. Also, if the pass rush is as improved as I hope it is, then we'll fine with even Tyrone Culver or a rookie back there.
This is the 3rd year of the Parcells reign, what the tirfecta was not done yet. Is find a stud in the later rounds of the draft. Let's hope that this class of 2010 has one in it. Reshad Jones could be that player? Georgia fans seem to think so, who have watched this kid play.
surely you jest... I tihnk Clemons has the physical tools to play FS in the NFL but frankly he was lost out there last year. And I mean lost, I don't think he even came close to making a play.
I like our secondary coach Todd Bowles a lot for his first season with us. I know he can't actually go out there and make tackles for us, but he's got another daunting task this year with that position. Hopefully Nolan's defense will create more pressure on the passer and our rookie LB's can cover better. Awww who am I kidding. I'll be happy if we aren't tied with Detroit again for most passes completed over 20+ yards.
Needs to learn to tackle better too. He's got some Taylor Mays in him, often going for the killshot. I wish prospects would go after the kill shot like Kam Chancellor, not like Taylor Mays.
Once Yeramiah leaves Jones will move to SS and Clemons will take over FS. Giving us one the best secondary's this world has ever seen.
Based on one season of play from two corners, and one rookie with a one year vet who had little playing time back at safety? Welp, I sure home so!
My understanding, Balls skills would be the ability to track a ball in the air and go up and catch it. Football IQ would be reading plays develop and understanding what was happening.
Exactly, they go hand in hand. What good is a safety if he CAN'T read a play or at least understand the situation but can go up for the ball? And what good is a safety who CAN read a play but cannot go up to snag the ball or make a play?
Range, FBI (football intelligence) and ball skills all go together. Have to have all three to be an elite safety.
Yeah the transition and close is important, good call. If he locates the ball well though, you can coach his footwork on the closing burst. There are guys who take short, choppy steps to gain the quickness to close. You can shorten that up and get rid of that wasted movement to make him plant & drive.
that is the reason i've been saying i think culver will start at FS jones still has a lot to learn and culver has the experience factor and better range everyone was so high on clemons but he lacks that. he looked lost out there at times id love to know your take on who eventually replaces bell clemons or jones?
I think Culver starts this year as well. I'd be surprised if its Jones. I think Jones replaces Bell in the future.
