"Pat White trying to pack on the pounds?"

All he needs to do is swallow Rex Ryan. That would solve two problems.

For me to have hope for Pat White he has to show something at this level first.

It's not enough, for me, to know there are reasons/obstacles/excuses for him struggling. I need to see actual positive traits or glimmers of production.

His accuracy, confidence, decisiveness, reads and physicality have all looked off-puttingly subpar so far at this level.

So, when he begins to show some things on the field, then I'll have something to weigh against all the 'obstacles' against him. I am not a naysayer, nor do I feel he has 'no chance'. He has a chance, but indicators have been poor.

I respect you bro, but you may lose your chips on this bet. Not a lot of reason for optimism at this point, just reason to hope our explanations are enough to allay our reasons for pessimism.

It may end up being a mistake, but I too had us drafting Pat white 2 years ago, for 1 reason...to enhance the already existing formation lead by Ronnie brown, not to take Ronnies spot, not to become a proset qb, but simply to enhance the formation, to give the wc play more out's. It behooves this coaching staff to figure out way's to get a player that can run and throw, on the field with ronnie, so ronnie and the oline can go against a somewhat honest defense....

To enhance the formation is simply getting him on the field with ronnie, thats where you start....jet sweeps with the threat of the pass, quick passes to ronnie, lining up out wide {instead of henne} when ronnie is the handler, get them both in the same backfield, just get the two on the frekin field at the same time....I dont even think the 2 were on the field together last year..I mean, what the hell is that all about..

Id like to see ronnie and Pat work together this year.

Pat White better bulk up and learn to play another position....we have Henne, Pennington, Thigpen and White at the QB spot....who is the odd man out???? EXACTLY, it's White.

Honestly, the best position Pat White could help us at is Punt Returner if he could judge a ball in flight and take a hit, but... he can't. So.

I wish we could practice squad him. I think in a year or two he's quite useful, but carrying him on the roster til then just denies us the chance to acarry another guy who could conribute more immediately, IMO.

Anyways, he couldn;t play worse than last year. Let's look at it that way.

Well, recall that VO up in Club did a ministudy on Pat White's +/- and it turned out that White neither stopped drives, nor cost points, in fact in Game 15 he was the WC QB when RW scored on the game tying 2pt conversion.

But White takes heat? If people recall, Henne literally threw the ball up for grabs to avoid a sack in overtime and the Titans kicked the game winning Field Goal because of that play.

That is not to tear Henne down to build Pat White up, it is a commentary on the perception that Dolfans have of White's play in 2009.

Give him some time, "if" he is chunking the ball in the general direction of Wr's in Training Camp, then it is probably time to close the door on Pat White the Qb as there will have been no improvement from TC 09, if however his passes are smoother and on target, then perhaps some "humble pie" T-Shirts should be passed around to White's detractors?

i was in shock last season that as cute and quirky as henning likes to be he didn't design some plays to get pat white on the field in the wildcat. use the guy in space and let him open it up. instead they stick him under center and let him run for nothing. i am more than with you on your opinion here dj.
pat white wasnt in the game on a single wildcat snap at all last season as i recall. i dont understand it either

I just don't see how we can sell Pat White in the WC when his only real threat is as a passer.... teams aren't going to respect his presence as a runner the way they do Ronnie or Ricky. IMO the only hope is coming up with a few gimmick plays for him and you can only milk that cow for so long.... personally, I see him as a poor fit for the WC.

Pat White reminds me of one of those hamburgers you see on a Burger King or McDonalds commercial.... they look really good and you can't wait to get one and once you do, you realize it's not the same burger you saw on TV.

    That's my "perception".... :shifty:

Marshall changes everything - Go big w 1 WR sets

Brandon Marshall can challenge #1 CBs, which will make the Phins' big packages much more potent. The Jets successfully ran a 1 WR big package that resulted 5-7 yard runs to the right or a 10 -15 yard passes to Braylon Edwards down the right seam. With Miami’s past success with big and unbalanced offensive line sets, I assume these plays will be added to the base offensive for Henne, Marshall, and Ricky/Ronnie.

As for Pat White, he’ll have a much better chance to succeed as he would be entering game within an existing offensive set and tasked to make short/intermediate throws. Instead of Pat Plays, I envision Henning will have White Wrinkles that supports regime's goal to get Marshall the ball in 1-on-1 situations where his tackle-breaking skills can lead to big plays. White’s running ability should force the safety to decide between remaining in over-the-top coverage or come up to even the numbers for run support. The keying on Marshall's also should result in single man-to-man coverage for other receiving options releasing from the line or backfield, which should provide White with more favorable opportunities to float a pass over a trailing defender or pull it down to run if defenders turn their heads.

This staff has a flair for drama and I predict that the Phins will launch the Marshall 1-receiver power sets for the Jets game, where Marshall versus Revis can be covered closely with the prime-time cameras. During the 2nd quarter, the Dolphins will put together a drive where play after play features a Marshall block to spring a big run, a Revis TD-saving tackle, Marshall pulling coverage to allow a RB or TE to outrun a LBer for a big gain and so on. Such a game plan would enable the Beast to be feed, while allowing Soprano/Parcells exhibit their power game and Henning to spread the ball to favorable match-up.

Finally, the objective of the Wildcat was to generate positive plays by putting the ball in the hands of its play-makers. The surprising result inside the 50 was that if the ball carrier broke through main tackler(s), backside pursuit could not catch up in time. By adding Marshall, the Dolphins expanded their play-makers that can outrun the rest of the defense if he breaks the initial tackle; and reduced Pat White to the 3rd or lower option to make a play. And since we no longer have a WR that needs 40 yards to get open, Pat will look much better by executing on high percentage plays.

 You always need to have your underdog, don't you?

Pat White isn't ever doing anything in the NFL to justify where he was taken, any more than Ted Ginn is.

    He's getting bigger? Good.

But what did he run, even as tiny as he is? A 4.5+ IIRC?

    Good luck with that.

    It's a sickness with me..:D

I have a feeling that Dan Henning was the dude who really wanted Pat White in 08, just based on some of his public statements, but still, White played tough last yr and it costs us very little to see if he has improved.

    VIVA LA CAMERON!!

IMO, it comes down to his very small hands. The NFL football is a fair amount larger then a college one. He can gain all the weight he wants but he will not be able to throw a NFL football. There is a reason that at the combine they measure the hands of QBs, WRs and RBs.

Well, as close as I can come to finding it, but White's Hands were 9.25 and Henne's were 9.00:

Well, for the sake of discussion, this is what Sparano had to say in March:

    http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/03/24/1544007/miami-dolphins-coach-tony-sparano.html

Now Thiggy is a darn good Qb, and unless P White shows huge improvements when the TC opens I'd say he is a good prospect to get traded somewhere, however waiting to see...costs nothing.

No argument here what's so ever. Thiggy > White No problem there. If we needed to win 'This season' Penny > (Thiggy or White)'. Seeing as how we only got a 5th for Ginn if we could get the same for white I would cut the deal. Drive him to the airport pin a 20 dollar bill to his collar and wish him the best of luck.

I hope no one who is a Dolphin fan, wants to see Pat white fail. I surely do not. I want every player on our team to be the best thing since sliced bread. But, I didn't see much last year to encourage me. I didn't like how they used him, I didn't like when they used him. Everytime he came on the field it was a disruption to the offenses flow and that is on the staff. Looking at his performance and his stature he doesn't pass the eyeball test.

I know how great he was in college and I really hope he finds someway to translate it to the Phins.

No argument on either count, but he sure could throw some awful looking passes at times, and that video was a highlight of his better plays and would lead one to think he was a better passer than given credit for.

More than likely, if he is traded away, we certainly lose big time. That could have been an OLB or FS prospect coming into his own this season. I like to see White traded at this point, but can it happen ?? Doubtful to me...
