Personally, I see the Dolphins and the Patriots coming out of the East. I think that the Jets are worse this coming year. Sanchez wont have Thomas Jones to lean on. Tomlinson can't carry the load himself. Shonn Greene is unproven. And how will Sanchez react when he has to air out the ball more? Holmes is a low second, high third tier WR in the league, but Edwards is vastly overrated. You also have to wonder if Sanchez will have the sophomore slump and if being color blind will affect his ability to play at an elite level. Personally I still haven't seen the NFL mechanics required out of the kid to make it as a passer.
As for the Dolphins, my what a turnaround in one off-season. I look at the positions on the roster for the upcoming season and I see that we have one heck of an offense. Henne, Brown, Ricky, Polite, Marshall, Fasano, Hartline and Bess. On defense our defensive line is much improved. The linebacker corp is solidifying with the addition of Dansby and Misi and Edds and Dobbins. The secondary is as strong as it's been in a decade. It's really amazing the turn around this team has undergone and I'm very excited for this season.
are you trying to convince yourself that the Jets arent a good team? You are underestimating Shonn Greene way too much.
He was really good last year, and I'm sure he will be this year. But Thomas Jones was their best Offensive player and they released their best Offensive lineman. IMO they have worsened their biggest strength, which is running the ball.
Greene is very good. We have our work cut out for us if we want to win a division that has the Pats and Jets in it. On the plus side, I still think that getting Brandon Marshall was the best offseason move in the entire NFL this year. Marshall in, Ginn out- very good indeed.
Greene is also injury prone, as for the Jets team as a whole, the one thing that sticks out to me is a team just cannot rely on scheme for very long in the NFL, for example the WC in 09 was not as effective as the WC in 08 and I'd suspect without improvements it will be less so in 2010. Rex Relying on his overload blitz packages will hit the wall sooner or later, which is what happened in the AFC Title game when Peyton Manning carved them like a Holiday Turkey. And they've lost 1,200 yds in Thomas Jones, a all pro scatback and replaced them with an aged LT and a Rookie who not only disappointed at USC but was last seen on the sidelines of the practice field dry heaving.
Yup. Anyone who disregards the Jets is living in denial. They've got talent throughout the roster and for all the fat jokes thrown his way, a very good head coach in Rex Ryan.
I sure don't know where you're getting that idea from. He played in 14 games and all 3 playoff games as a reserve last season and here is his injury record in college: So, he missed 4 games in his 3 seasons at Iowa. For a workhorse running back, that doesn't exactly throw up red flags for durability IMO.
I know Shonn Greene has talent. I wasn't in any way trying to discredit that. What I was getting at is that he is unproven in being the feature back in an NFL system and being the go to guy. We all know the Jets are a running team. And IMHO Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, Shonn Greene is better than Shonn Greene, LaDanian Tomlinson, Joe McKnight. Now, with all that said, the Jets do still one of the best O-Lines in the NFL and it's possible that Tomlinson could have one more good year left in him. I just honestly think that the Jets have placed too much priority on "names" and personalities than talent. And I honestly think that if that trend continues they will find themselves self destructing from the inside out.
I think it hinges on the play of Sanchez. If he improves on his rookie campaign, you're absolutely right. If he regresses or stays the same with a few more of those 5 interception games, the Jets will remain a 9-7 type team, IMO.
I don't like the Jets but I respect their talent and ability. I think they will be in the thick of things until the end of the season and have a chance to make the playoffs. The Jets still have an intimidating defense and with the addition of JT will still be dangerous. Their offense will hinge on Sanchez not LT or Green. IMHO I really think the Dolphins are the most improved team in the AFC East and will be contending for the AFC East championship. Miami put a scare in the two Superbowl championship teams last year and they are improved over that team. Teams won't be overlooking them this year they will be doing some serious preparation.
Jest are the new Redskins. Adding every big name FA they could, I hope it blows up in their face and they don't do ish! If Sanchez doesn't produce, they will be a worthless team. Their running game will suffer and the addition of all their WR won't amount to anything. Wishful thinking? Maybe, but who doesn't hope the Jest suck this year!
thomas jones scored 29 TD's in the last two seasons gonna need greene to really step up to replace that type of production i think their running game falls off a bit this season
I'm not a big fan of giving credit where credit is due to Jets players, but even during his tenure there I was always respectful of Thomas Jones. He is one of the most underrated backs in the NFL. It's no coincidence that the Bears offense dropped off significantly when he left. And I feel confident we will see the same thing with the Jets.
The Jets had the best defense in the league and added the best corner in the draft and Cromartie in the off-season. People sleeping on New York are out of their minds.
I had Faneca as a bust free agent when the jets signed him....I said that because over the course of his career he did not train his body professionally, and when you get older, that lack of strength gets exploited.

I think you're going to be disappointed. The Jets are a good team, at least for this upcoming year. I do think Ryan and that team will eventually implode, but not this season. The patriots are weaker every year, and IMO, the division runs through NY until we whip up on them this season. realistically, I expect a split of season series and close division race.
I'm hoping that the AFCE comes down to Miami and the NYJ. NE will always be dangerous with Brady and their receivers, but I'm hoping they have been passed up by the other two. I'm not sure I believe that, but it's what I'm hoping happens.
I don't see the Jets defense playing as well as it did last season. You can only rely on scheme for so long, and they don't have the talent IMO to maintain a top-5 defense. The defense will still be good, but you'll see them be exposed more.

Thomas Jones was great, especially at punching it in. I'm actually more worried that they didn't resign him. To me anyways, that's a huge indicator they are ready to give Shonne the full time duty. I know he's good, and he clearly has the vote of confidence from the coaching staff. He could have a tremendous breakout year, even doing better than Jones did. I have to give them credit, Fatty ryan has built a very well balanced team up there. Much better than Mangina did. I actually think the Jets and Dolphins will be the top teams, NE is gonna fall from grace this year.
Interesting. But going OT: Adam Schein is the main reason I stopped listening to the NFL network on Sirius. His delivery, combined with the hyperbole, was too much for me.

I don't think the Patriots are going to be as a big of an issue as they have been in years past. They're rebuilding this year, and just don't seem like the big bad Pats of old. The Jets though as tough as it is to admit it are the real deal. Their play, however, 100% hinges on Sanchez progressing to the next level, and continuing the type of play he had in the playoffs. If that holds true, the Jets will likely only have issue with high powered offenses, and QBs who don't get rattled by those blitz packages. If Sanchez plays like the 20+ int machine we saw in the regular season, they are going to need a lot of prayer
Schein's prediction pretty much mirrors a lot of people's opinions (including myself). I just hope Starks does well at the nose, or its gonna be a long eight games before Fergie returns.
