http://www.thestar.com/sports/football/article/781170--argos-sign-ex-nfl-quarterback-cleo-lemon So Cleo Lemon heads Up North, I wish him well.
Winnipeg introduces new coaching staff http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Columnists/Friesen/2010/03/17/13270651.html There is some good talent in Wpg but a newbie HC and Stefon Lefors and Jyles at Qb could/will hamper them this yr.
I think Cleo Lemon might turn out to be a very good CFL QB. I don't see how he doesn't start on Toronto.
CFLdaily's new 3 rd mock: Hate the Watkins pick for BC, they may be better served with Steve Turner then Chima Ihekwoaba then Reinders. From what I've learned, Steven Turner has leapt up the draft boards with that 4.31 and 40 inch vertical, he may go as high as #3.
There was some chatter about Jarious Jackson heading to Argoland but that turned out to be false. Same in the CFL as NFL, Qb, LT, DE, CB,Wr, if a team doesn't have that they will struggle.
The CFL is a bit more metric than the NFL, that is why some positions translate back and forth, some don't, some positions require similar skills others completely different skills. As for Hamdan's inaccuracy...Cleo Lemon is a career 57% passer, eh, it's the Argos they still haven't resigned their Rb (Robinson?).
Barrin Simpson signed with the Roughriders replacing Rey Williams. Sask does have two huge holes to fill at De with the departure of CFL DPOY John Chick and Stevie Baggs to the NFL.
Scratch that, the Simpson deal was put on hold, with fmr Argo Moreno maybe they can find a similar player for less $$$$?
A decent recap of Ecamp http://www.bclionsden.ca/blog/2010/03/19/jann-shreves-e-camp-experience/ And cfldaily.com is looking for Mock draft submissions http://www.cfldaily.com/CFL-Draft.html#anchor_43
Going to submit my 3 rd mock to cfldaily@gmail.com 1. Toronto Argos: Corey Watson..Wr..it's the Argos. 2. Saskatchawon..Shomari Williams..they need DE's badly, Williams had 3 yrs experience at Houston so he should be ahead of the normal learning curve 3. BC Lions..Steve Turner..Wr..BC needs a playmaker on offense and special teams. 4. Forfeited 5. Calgary Rob Maver k/p, with DeAngelis leaving they need a Canadian replacement for him 6. Winnipeg Blue bombers..Cory Greenwood, a physical freak of a Lb, good value here 7. Montreal Allouettes: John Bender, with Anwar Stewart ready to pick up the slack for the departed Kiron Williams Trestman looks to the future at Oline Rd 2 .8 Argos: Joel Reinders..ex BBaller showed real promise at ECamp 9. Edmonton Eskimos: Akeem Foster Wr 10. BC Lions: Chima Ihekwoba-Leos need a passrushing De to replace Ricky Coley. Chima fills the bill. 11. Toronto Argonauts: Tauren Allen Cb, second fastest 40 time the Argos could use more help in the secondary as Byron Parker is talking about looking to the future. 12. Hamilton TiCats..Brian Bulcke DT, currently coming back to Stanford for his 5th yr, he would go higher if not for the injury 13. Calgary Stampeders: Joe Eppelle massive Olineman who had a bad day in one on one matchups at Ecamp, Eppelle can play Guard for the Stamps. 14. Montreal: Eddie Steele-Karon Williams replacement at DT 15. Montreal-Joash Geese-would go earlier if not for a knee surgery, the Havs get a steal. Rd 3 #16. BC Lions Mike Montoya raw fullback prospect, with Lumbala going South the Leos reload, could be a fulltime Rb as well. #17- Calgary Stamps: J'Michael Deane..Mammoth Tackle for Michigan State, he is a "futures" draft pick. #18..BC Lions-Bruno Lapointe, Brent Johnson is rumored to be moving to rotational duty, Lapointe will help the Dline #19 Edmonton-Chris Dublanko Lb #20-Toronto Argonauts-Chris Rewabakuma Cb..fmr Duke player is BPA here #21- Calgary-Nassar Jamal Stamps load up on Oline. #22 Montreal-Bary Archdekin..Oline prospect that is rising up after a strong Ecamp. Thougts?
BC to hire ex Argos Coach Rich Stubler: http://bclions.com/article/lions-round-out-coaching-staff-with-rich-stubler Now draft Chima Ihekwoaba to give him someone to work with, not that the previous Dline coach was a slouch, he did put 3 consecutive rush ends into the NFL two who came from nowhere in Cam Wake and Chris Simpson.
Leos with a huge pickup: http://www.thestar.com/sports/footb...argo-jamal-robertson-signs-with-the-b-c-lions Ticats resign Knowlton: http://www.cfl.ca/article/ticats-lock-up-all-star-lb-knowlton Losing Martlel Mallet means signing Robinson partially makes up for the loss of Martell, now the Leos need a FB.
BC did make the Western Final last yr, upset your ticats iirc..something about Casey "Vince Young North" Printers running for a TD? Gotta like Robinson, Armstrong, Chaney, Keron Williams, they added a Safety/Lb hydrid as well. And the Eskimos signed Lenny Walls and Lawrence Gordon. Walls was a good player last year, CFL's SMS/Salary Cap casualty.
Wally Buono heading into final year as Coach/GM? http://www.lionbackers.com/bc_lions/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18164&sid=860116a77c2e736cf47c15a7d0f1955f
They aren't my Ti-Cats. I don't have a team right now. Not until my Rough Riders/Renegades come back in a couple of years. When I say bounce back I mean in general. The Leos muddled through the season and were very up and down.
Buck Pearce was injured (as usual) and Jarrious Jackson's shoulder was injured. That left Casey "Vince Young north" Printers.. And the D was putrid... As for the Renegades, it really does need to be a ten team league.
Maybe, the CFL's "problem" is their TV contract is tiny, as in 15 million or so, that means Stadium Revenues have to finance a team in an area that may not be in a area that could naturally support it. I'd love it if a US Cable network picked up the league. I'm just a newbie CFL fan though so that is definetely imho only.
Wallly Buono's contract extended: http://www.bclionsden.ca/blog/2010/03/31/buono-extends-with-lions-through-2013/
News, Rumors, Mundane stuff http://www.bclionsden.ca/blog/2010/04/06/seven-of-eight-teams-under-the-cap-in-2009/ Apparently 44k is a bargain as when Mike Kelly took over the Peg was over the cap by 450k with 1.7 million in Guaranteed money. I like the Blue Bombers roster at the moment, especially if they add Buck Pearce along with Steve Jyles, they also have Adaraus Bowman and Phil Hunt, but the East is loaded with Hamilton and Montreal both having strong teams.
I live in Hamilton and have most of my life (except my years out in Burnaby) and I have never been to a Ti-Cat game or really follow the CFL. Just can't get into it.
Which is fine dude, their season begins in July, and ends in Mid November, and they play on Fri and Sat nights meaning they are rather easy to follow online. That and I must say I've gained respect for their game, add in NFL teams are now really beginning to poach talent from the CFL and for me it is better than minor league Football like the UFL, or non football like the AFL (imo) and the CFL for hopefully alot of people will be their alternative before and during the NFL season. You watch, Mark Trestman will be a NFL Head Coach.
Check out who will be running Jimmy Clausen's pro day: And he was one of the gurus that Tim Tebow turned to in order to make some progress on his Qb mechanics, toss in he was in the mix to work with mega bust Jemarcus Russel in Oakland and Trestman may be winning Grey Cups, but the word in NFL circles about him is quite positive. http://www.cfl.ca/video/index?sub_channel=5
Blue bombers post 1 million dollar loss http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Winnipeg/2010/04/07/13498066-qmi.html Coach Kelly was wrapped up in a scandal last yr leaving Winnipeg with little choice but to fire them and eat their contracts.
No surprise, Buck P was/is a decent enough Qb, but incredibly injury prone, if it works out though they will have a nice core at Qb/Wr/De/Rb.
BC signs a name familar to Dolphins fans Boy, there were some serious Kerry Reed fans back in 2007, iirc he is a big bodied Wr.
Colts GM Bill Polian on the future of the CFL http://tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=318917 It looks doubtful the NFL via the Bills will plant it's flag in Toronto as a new stadium is required among other issues.
BC Signs two productive small college players, Joe Henderson a Lb and Domini Pittman who signed with BC because:
That is what I hear, and playing for a winning team in a new stadium, things could be much worse. Are you going to check in for the CFL draft thread this Sunday SWave?
now that i know it's this sunday, i might. not a huge fan of the CFL, not since I was a kid. marv levy in montreal and warren moon slingin' it for the eskimos of edmonton. good times.
