The Rams got their QB. The best two players went #2 and #3. Eric Berry did not slide either. Forget about the debate between Trent Williams or Bryan Bulaga. Williams went ahead of Russell Okung. The Seahawks and the Packers got their left tackle. Bulaga slid pretty far but not nearly as far as Bruce Campbell. Mayock's Top 4 offensive tackles (Okung, Bulaga, Williams, and Davis) went in the 1st round. The Browns took Joe Haden like many thought they would. The Bengals took Jermaine Gresham like many thought they would. And the Chargers took took Ryan Mathews like many thought they would. However nobody thought the Chargers would trade up so high to get him. The Raiders shocked everybody by taking Rolando McClain and the Bills shocked everybody by taking C.J. Spiller. The Jaguars shocked everybody in a different kind of way by taking Tyson Alualu. The 49ers beefed up their offensive line quite a bit. The Eagles traded up to get Brandon Graham. The Giants took a chance on Jason Pierre-Paul. And Derrick Morgan slide all the way to the Titans. Mayock's Top 4 defensive ends (JPP, Morgan, Graham, and Odrick) went the 1st. His fifth best DE went in the 4th round. Everson Griffen. Mayock had Sergio Kindle ahead of Misi. As did many others. Turns out the Seahawks desperately wanted Earl Thomas. They got him. The Steelers finally took an offensive lineman in the 1st round. The Texans took Kareem Jackson over Kyle Wilson. The Jets took Kyle Wilson and the Pats took Devin McCourty. Are they concerned about Brandon Marshall? The Broncos took Demaryius Thomas instead of Dez Bryant and Tim Tebow instead Jimmy Clausen. Guess we will find out if they are smarter than everybody else. The Cowboys took Dez Bryant making the Roy Williams trade one of the biggest debacles of Jerry Jones' reign. Fantasy Football alert. Minnesota traded their 1st round pick to Detroit. The Lions took Jahvid Best pairing him with Kevin Smith. The Vikings took Toby Gerhart in the 2nd round pairing him with Adrian Peterson. The Vikings did not draft a QB. Not unless you count Joe Webb in the 6th who is more likely to play wideout or take a few snaps in the Wildcat. Wonder what Favre thinks about that. The Colts took Jerry Hughes even though they already have Freeney and Mathis. Polian blamed the Super Bowl loss on the offensive line and then waited until the 4th round to pick a guard. They released Ryan Lilja and signed Andy Alleman. Because the Saints took Patrick Robinson all of Mike Mayock's Top 5 cornerbacks went in the 1st round. The Bills, Jags, Broncos, Chiefs, and Chargers all passed on Dan Williams even though they need a nose tackle for their 34 defense. The Cardinals were happy to scoop him up at #26.

The more I think about it the more I am afraid Jerry Hughes was the target at #40 and we settled for Koa Misi. Take a look at picks 29-39. 29 Jets - CB Kyle Wilson, Boise St 30 Lions - RB Jahvid Best, Cal (traded up to get him) 31 Colts - DE Jerry Hughes, TCU 32 Saints - CB Patrick Robinson, FSU 33 Rams - OT Rodger Saffold, Indiana 34 Vikings - CB Chris Cook, Virginia 35 Bucs - DT Brian Price, UCLA 36 Chiefs - RB Dexter McCluster, Ole Miss 37 Eagles - FS Nate Allen, South Florida 38 Browns - SS TJ Ward, Oregon 39 Bucs - WR Arrelious Benn, Illinois (traded up to get him) If the Colts pass on Hughes there is a real good chance he makes it to #40. Sergio Kindle was rated higher than Hughes yet every team passed on him. Other than Hughes there is not a single pass rusher in that group. I hope I am wrong but I suspect Parcells and Ireland were planning on snagging Hughes at #40.
I'm not so sure about that. If Hughes had slid to 40, then yeah, fairly good chance we take him, but I don't think they necessarily expected it to happen. When our turn came up for #40, did you notice how quickly the pick was turned in? The card was turned in about as fast as it ever happens in the first couple of rounds. That indicates they had no desire to even entertain trade down talks and were just focused on taking Misi.
IMO, Saffold was a fine choice for them. Good value and they need to focus on taking care of their new franchise QB. Jason Smith and Jason Brown last year and now Saffold. That is the start of a solid OL, a QB's best friends.
I think Misi was the target all along. I know most of the fanbase wanted the sexy pick, a passrusher, but upon review our hole at SOLB was far greater than at WOLB where Wake should be able to be a force playing the Dumerville role in Nolan's D.
I like your theories better than mine. I do feel there is a good chance we are all underestimating Cameron Wake. With Nolan running our defense he could be our Dumervil. After all Wake did spend a year learning from Joey Porter and Jason Taylor.
I think there's still a chance you'll see Misi on the Weakside when they can get Cam Wake's hand in the dirt on the left side in four-front passing downs like 3rd and long. Of course, if it's a nickel package, we'd either have Dansby/Edds and Bell as 'linebackers' or Edds and Dansby as the two backers. Not sure Misi can get out there in four fronts, despite being a good rusher. You know.. I think you COULD see Misi at Right Defensive End in four fronts, actually. Misi-Odrick-Starks-Wake with Dansby and Edds behind them in nickel.
I see your point, they need Ts for sure. But they need Wrs as well, and I think that Benn would have fit in there nicely and he would have been a great value pick imo. They did get Gilyard in the 4th, so that helps.
Yeah, that's intriguing Alen. Walk me through who you'd play at each spot of that 5-2, and if you'd ever keep it on the field on passing or 3 wr downs.
IDK i think someone would have taken him those teams ahead of use i think just didnt feel like any DE/OLB was worth taking at that point now that Hughes was off the board but you never know

See it in smaller school HS games a lot because there aren't many QBs who can pass consistently. As a formation to stop running attacks its quite effective.
Saints, Bucs, Chiefs and Browns all would have considered him. Saints were often projected to take him if Indy didnt. The other 3 teams have gaping holes for passrushing.

In other words its a 4-3 defense. Dansby would line up at ILB. Misi and Edds would line up at OLB. Starks and Odrick would line up at DT. Langford and Wake would line up at DE. LB: Misi Dansby Edds DL: Wake Starks Odrick Langford We will probably see that on 3rd downs won't we?
