Some good nuggets from 2:40-2:55 with Mike Francesa. - Said Bradford-Suh-McCoy almost certainly 1-2-3. Thinks McCoy best player. Questions Bradford's durability reminds him of Matt Ryan. Because Bradford comes out of spread and Claussen played in pro style offense he feels Claussen is more advanced. Didn't like that Claussen threw a WR under the bus in the Gruden video. - Thomas more like reed then Berry. Thinks Thomas is the better player - Spiller maybe to Seattle or Jacksonville - Claussen somewhere between 6-17, SF may take him at 17 or someone will jump to that spot to get him. Could be Cleveland at 7. Thinks McCoy could go in 1st round - Tebow probably a 2nd round value but may go to Minny at 30. Feels Minny has nothing behind Brett. - Golden Tate reminds him of Hines Ward when Ward came out of Georgia. Questions his route running and questions his ability to get off press. Coud be better pro that college player - Mid 2nd - Sean Lee - Early 2nd round/maybe late 1st if a team gets stuck after their guy gets taken. Concerned about durability and knee issue. - Giants may jump us to get to McClain. If they cant get McClain they're looking at Kyle Wilson and Jermaine Gresham and would look at Spikes in round 3 in that scenario. Thinks Miami and Denver looking at McClain and not to be surprised. - Jets looking at cover guys like Chris Cook, Patrick Robinson and Jerome Murphy at 29 because they want long speed and 1-1 cover guys. May reach because feels they both may be gone by 61. - Fastest riser: Roger Saffold. Great east-west. Cites ability to play 4 positions. Indy and GB in rd 1. - Taylor Mays as 27 high to Dallas. Questions instincts and bad angles. Too tight to play man vs slot and doesnt make plays. - Dez has top 5 talent, should go in teens - Movement outside of top ten and in early 2nd is expected. Downside is that teams that historically draft well dont like the new draft format because it equals playing field - Sleeper QB: John Skelton is Flacco light in his opinion. Probably mid-late 3rd round. - Gerhart isnt a fullback, probably 2nd round. Clean medically and off field. Better than Alstott, different player as well. - Fave OL: Mike Iupati. Get hands outside too much but loves the toughness. The oakland rumor at 8 is probably nonsense - No corners probably til 17 but probably 3 between 17 and 26. Haden over wilson in his opinion but not by much - Sleeper player: Dexter McCluster - "Spiller Light" - Feels he could play wr and rb. Thinks hes off the board by late 2nd.
I found the McClain and Berry/Thomas bits particularly interesting. McClain could pop Crowder right out to SOLB where crowder would be an edge setting OLB and we could use Dansby and McClain as blitzers frequently.
I'm all for McClain. to go from Ayodele and Crowder to Dansby and McClain would be an incredible transition. We'd be pretty hard to run on. The only problem is the gaping hole we'd still have at FS...
Would Crowder be kept in that scenario? I'm not 100% that he would be, Nolan loves ILB blitzes, something that Crowder is notoriously unable to do very well.
In Nolan's 3-4 he likes guys who can set the edge well at the SOLB position. Crowder has the frame to be able to do that. It would also take him out of a position that in this scheme has to have playmaking ability
I'm starting to like the idea of popping Crowder outside. Especially since it takes many OLB a couple years to really contribute. Crowder certainly cant be worse than Porter last year
That would leave the right side of the defense without playmakers though Boik. That OLB will have to blitz sooner or later, as well penetrate for TFL's and pressures none of which are Crowder's strong suits.
Although I tend to agree with you, I still believe we would be better off with Wake/Anderson on one side and Crowder/someone else(3rd rounder OLB or maybe 2nd if we end up getting one) on the other side with Mclain and Dansby in the middle. hmmmm, tomorrow can't come fast enough!
Well he'd be a downgrade as a pass rusher but significantly better vs the run. I threw you in the crazy bin a long time ago haha I was probably the first one in there though. Well it depends how you set up the defense. you could have Wake rotate in if he ever learns to play the run (though I doubt it). You could also draft a guy like Austen Lane or Spitler and groom them behind crowder and work them in gradually. So it might be a temporary situation for a long term solution.
Agreed. which is why I would like to draft an OLB to rotate in with him and more specifically on 3rd downs. I think its a very good solution, seeing as I still do like Crowder out on the field for his work against the run.
He wasnt a big blitzer but when he did he was effective. He explodes well and times his blitzes well.
