Funny; as I looked at their schedules I don't see any intense travel, or weather disadvantage like our schedule does to us every year. There must be a new map out or something. What is south about the Indianapolis Colts and how did they end up in the AFC South instead of the Dolphins? In short, what are we doing in the AFC East when we are the southernmost team in the NFL?! ......and don't give me any bull about breaking up rivalries. If the NFL has to alter logic this far to sell tickets, all out fixes aren't far off. How do we get out of this ******ed division?
Either you read one of my old posts or we think alike. I have said this for years. We travel up there three times a year and they travel down here one game each a year where the weather is pleasant. This puts us at a constant distance, turf and weather disadvantage for 1/2 of the games that we needs to win to get into the playoffs. Traveling up there also gives us one day less to prepare for the game because of the length of the air travel and misc travel preparation. I can think of zero benefits being in the AFC East gives us. If they aren't going to re-align these teams properly, why bother? What is south about Indianapolis? Nothing... obviously Indy should be in the AFC East and we should be in the AFC South. Why is the NFL stacking the deck against us?
I would hate NOT playing the Jets, Bills and Patriots twice a year. Think about what games you get most excited about each year. Also, A flight from Miami to NY is 3 hours, Boston and Buffalo are just over 3.5 hours. How long is it to Houston? Less, but not by much....
I can't believe this. Travelling up there gives us one day less to prepare? You act as if we put the team on a bus and drive all night. Its called an airplane. We're there in 2-3 hours. Give me a break. Enough whining already. We've been in the same division as the pats, jets and bills for years, we have STRONG rivalries with all 3 teams. What more can you really want? Sure we're more south than Indy, but im pretty sure we're more east too...
I'd much rather stay on the east coast, and avoid jet lag, than be in either of the South divisions. And FYI, THEY have to deal with the cold weather too. It's like everyone seems to think these people aren't athletes. Or think they've lived in Florida/New England their entire life, and are totally accustomed to the weather. Seriously, did you see Mark Sanchez in the winter? He was AWFUL. It's a phantom advantage. And if it is really there, it's so minute that it's probably not even worth mentioning. The real advantage, is our hatred for the Jets/Bills/Patriots. I don't care if we're 14-1 going against the Jets and they're 1-14 for the year. I want to see them crushed! And the players are surely the same way. Not taking any shots against the people that think this, I just really, really beg to differ.
Whether you like the answer or not doesn't make it any less true. It is in fact because of old rivalries. When the NFL determined they needed to add another division to each conference, each team had their say. The Dolphins were adamant about maintaining the rivalries in the AFC East. The Colts on the other hand were okay with going to the new AFC division. And the Seahawks were okay with going to the NFC from the AFC. In any event the fact that we are still in the East and the Colts are in the South was by choice from both teams.
Realignment should have put the Fins in a division with Jacksonville, Tampa and Atlanta. Fans could easily travel to every game and intense rivalries would be the result.
It is about rivalries. When the AFC South was first introduced the Dolphins were logically approached and they fought it tooth and nail. The primary reason cited by Huizenga at the time was their rivalry with the Jets. The fact is that game always sold out. We had those other sell outs that include the team buying up tickets to prevent a blackout (especially at the time), but the Jets games were always a guaranteed sell out and often a prime time game. So its not "bull" about breaking up rivalries.
Weather is such an excuse it isn't even funny. Take care of your business. PERIOD. Both teams play in the same snow. Both teams play in the same heat. No excuses. Win your damn games.
Do you think cowboys fans whine about the 'mileage' their tweam racks up? Stop it. We have been kicking the bejeezus out of the three of these teams for nearly a half century. We have proud tradition of owning them when they need it most. Man the hell up. Have some pride, goddammit. You want out of the division because the schedule is too hard? Why donkt we just move down to division aa and rack up the cupcake wins? This is our division. I hate them. I love pounding them into the mud. And you want to give it up because of the travel? That'sa loser mentality to have and it sickens me. We all have the same schedule 14 of 16 games. Get it done, no excuses.
Every year when the schedule comes out, several people have nothing more to do then b!tch about it. It is what it is and I'm okay with the fact we play 5 out of our last 8 at HOME.
Epic Avatar And I could care less about the schedule...i love it this year. Important games early and late. I LOVE having some of the best rivalries in the game between the pats and Jets....
Unless your team is in the middle of the country (Denver, KC, Dallas) you are going to do a lot more traveling. We have to occasionally play teams on the West Coast. I think the schedule is fair. Looks like we have 9 days off before the Raider's game in Oakland. We have to play the Titans and Bears in a 4 day period, but they are both home games.
Let me debate each point line by line: -1) The Cowboys have the same disadvantages: False The Dallas Cowboys play on grass; and so do the Eagles, and Redskins. The Giants also played on grass (their new stadium isn’t this year). So how is the Cowboys playing on the same surface as their rivals the same as our situation when everyone we play in our division is on artificial turf when we play on grass? Answer: There is no comparison. Result: The Cowboys have won many super bowls since 1973 (1977, 1992, 1993 and 1995 to be exact) we have won none! Not even Marino could win in the snow with frequency. -2) The weather doesn’t matter in football: False How many of you are old enough to remember that Shula’s last game was in Buffalo in a blizzard and him saying that he couldn’t use all of his weapons because of the weather? I guess the fans here must know more about football than Shula. How many of you are old enough to remember Marino losing in Buffalo in the playoffs year after year as his receivers slipped around on something called snow that they aren’t used to playing on? How many of you have been to Ralph Wilson Stadium in December to know what you are talking about? Last year when the Bills game was in Toronto in a dome the Bills fans pitched a public media fit because the Dolphins wouldn’t freeze and there would be no weather advantage. If our fans don’t think there is a weather advantage – the Buffalo fans sure think so. http://boards.buffalobills.com/showthread.php?t=201083 Are they smarter than us or something? If not than weather must be important. -3) Airplane travel doesn’t give us one less day to prepare for the game: False It takes a full day to gather your equip, pack your clothes / other personal items, game plan info, assemble the whole team to meet, catch the bus to the plane, fly to the North East (3hrs), get to your hotel room etc... Trust me it kills a whole day and gives us less time to prepare for the game. Is it worse for them to fly to Miami? No, but they only have to do it once, we do it three times. Granted the mode of travel is 3 hrs, but the prep for the trip isn’t. -4) It was the Dolphins idea to stay in the AFC East: Half right While the owners did have a say, whatever the owners decided had to be approved by the NFL exec board and the commish. The NFL itself had the final say. In the end the owners decided nothing. In sum: We are the only team in the NFL that suffers all three disadvantages (travel, turf and weather) when we play all of our inner division rivals. You know, the teams that we have to beat to go to the play offs? If you have FACTS to dispute this please do so. If you like, I will calculate the number of games we have actually won in the bad weather playing in the North East since 2002 when the Pat’s changed their surface to turf. It is not a winning proposition for us.
Not only is it called a Jet its a chartered Jet. A few hours in a Chartered jet, booohooo. Leave our rivalrys alone!
If you can't beat the teams in your division or handle a couple hour flight (Remember they also have to fly to us so it is a complete wash) then we don't deserve a tittle.
I gotta tell you brother I take offense to being called Ignorant. But while we are on that line of discussion the Dolphins under this FO are 8-4 in this division. That's with all the traveling.
From Cobrajet: "If you like, I will calculate the number of games we have actually won in the bad weather playing in the North East since 2002 when the Pat’s changed their surface to turf. It is not a winning proposition for us."
Maybe you guys don't want Parcells afterall. He wants to bring a Superbowl win to Miami - you just want rivalries that equal nothing. Most teams scramble for any advantage to make them win. We give them away and no one cares.
As I already posted we are 8-4 in our division since this FO took over. It seems that your suggesting that we move to a different division because you think it would some how be easier, but I'm a football fan. I live for these rivalary's. I have 37 years invested in hating the Bills, Jets, Pats. So I'm telling you I DON'T CARE that you want us moved. We belong in the East.
Its not that we don't want to win at all. Its that we're just not buying into the perception that the only way for us to win one is to run and hide in an easier division.
No one on these boards should be called ignorant, that was wrong. We may be 8-4 with the current regime but what about the last 25 years of great teams that couldn't win in a blizzard? It's just not apples to apples. I couldn't even guess at how many championships we would have won if we weren't in this stupid situation that no one else in the NFL is in. There is another thing; it would be easier to pack the stadium if we were in the right division because rivalries could travel to our games. That would mean more $ for us. Do you know the money it must be costing us to travel up there and back three times a year for no good reason Just because it has always been that way doesn't mean it always has to be this way. Years ago they thought moonshine had vitamins too it doesn't make them right.
Just for arguments sake I will figure out our win/loss record in games after October in the NE since 2002 when the Pat's changed to turf. This will take some time but it is worth doing to end this discussion.
While I agree I find it funny that you thanked the post in which he called me that.... I really think we have reached an impasse and are going to have to respectfully agree to disagree on this matter.
I thanked him for the post but not for insulting you. I don't like such things. I am crunching the numbers on this and will post them asap

You can't argue with the facts. Simply put; if we don't get out of this division and stop playing in cold weather, half way across the globe and on dissimilar surfaces we may never get to a Superbowl.
Not really. Here are the all time head to head numbers for teams in our division.
Team|Win|Loss|Tie|Pct Jets|41|46|1|0.472 NE|49|37|0|0.570 Bills|52|35|1|0.598 Colts|44|24|0|0.647 {colsp=4}AVG W/ Colts|0.572 {colsp=4}AVG W/O Colts|0.547
As you can see our divisional record is just fine. If the whole reasoning is to switch divisions simply because we are not a cold weather team I find that argument even weaker than moving us because we are located in the south eastern section of the United States. Weather is a huge part of football. Removing its factor simply because we feel it would net an extra win or two is pretty lame. I'm sorry we don't and will not ever agree on this issue. Weather is part of the game, travel is part of the game, and rivalry's are a HUGE part of the game.
