Get ready to take what we can get for Brown as well. They're cleaning house and filling it with their boys. There's a reason their jersey's are under $20 bucks at the pro shop. With that said, I hope we do look at Spiller at #12 now. KR/PR/RB in one. What's not to like?
I'm not so sure about that one. It's possible especially if they get a Barber trade down. Otherwise I don't know. Really though Brown's 4.4. YPC isn't the end of the world so if we get a second round pick plus a little more and get Barber in a trade down that's not a bad deal.
I just meant he couldnt be further from the Dolphins and AFCE..better than going to a cocky team like Dallas and having him blow up. I would rather have him blow up in San Fran.
They seem to like youtube videos, someone should post this one: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYSxJgjjJFc"]YouTube- Ted Ginn Jr. and Snoop Dogg - Drop it Like it's Hot[/ame]
I guess it just depends but it sure seems that if the Front Office has your name out there, they'll take what they can get for you and move on.
I think a 5th rounder was a little cheap just based purely off his return abilities and his shallow WR abilities. They may have taken a cheaper price just to keep him out in San Fran and not on New England or the Jets or something. WHO NEEDS TED GINN WHEN YOU GOT PAT WHITE BABY!!!! Do we still get to keep his family or are they going with him?? J/K
Well to be honest, it is a great deal for the niners. In the least they get a great return guy for a fifth round pick. Not too shabby.
NOOOOO. Who are we going to make fun of? Who is going to hysterically burn the Jets much to our amusement? a 5th round pick does seem low. Regardless of his problems and headaches at WR... he was one of the best Returners in the league. He won the game for us against the Jets and numerous times after that took us close to the 50 yard line to start a drive. And if you send him deep, defenses HAVE to send someone to cover him. I dont know, hopefully the pick turns out to be spot on. I'm not upset obviously, but I just hope this pick doesnt turn into someone who doesnt even play.
Ginn strictly as a kick returner is worth more than a ****ing 5th round pick. Past 5th rounders for us: 5 John Nalbone 5 Chris Clemons 5 Manuel Wright (supplemental) 5 Anthony Alabi 5 Tony Bua 5 Donald Lee 5 J.R. Tolver 5 Omare Lowe 5 Sam Simmons Awesome!!!
That's really my concern. Ginn was 13th in KR average (minimum attempts) and 3rd overall in total kickoff yardage. Bess has proven he cannot return kicks, and Cobbs was so-so. Spiller is looking more intriguing by the minute, especially if we can trade down.
I understand but maybe Jake Long, Chad Henne, Devon Bess, Donald Thomas, Kendal Langford, Dan Carpenter, Brian Hartline, etc... will make you feel better.
I think this next year is the last of his rookie contract. We were not going to re-sign him. So a 5th makes sense.
Ok to be honest about this list. Long was a no brainer and Bess was a great find. The rest of the list are still unproven (with potential) but I would hardly call any of them great picks as of right now. You may be able to add Hartline to that list with Long and Bess, but our WR's were so bad last year that anybody that caught a few passes looked amazing. You just have to hope that they hit with the pick. The Draft is a gamble no matter how you look at it. We just traded a 2nd round pick and made a guy the highest paid WR ever that was drafted in the 3rd round I believe. So I hope we get some good luck with our picks.
Fair point. I would argue Kendal Langford is solid player. And Carpenter was a f-ing steal. I think we are going to hit on at least 1 of the two CB's we drafted last year. Henne is the best looking franchise QB prospect we have had since Marino left. To find a LT and a possible franchise QB is pretty impressive to me, and I think it speaks fairly highly of this FO. Me too. I hope we hit on these picks, but I am much more comfortable with this FO making the picks than Cam + Mueller and Wansted + Spielman.
Truth be told, I was really hoping the FO would keep him an additional year and then make the decision, especially with him now being able to just run and not have to worry about going across the middle. I wish him the best of luck.
A couple of things....it is clear the Dolphins dont want to be a finesse team in any sort of way, The Famly was the eesence of that, for all of his speed, the drops, lack of toughness, the out of bounds runs......catch and falls, not being able to create seperation of the line vastly outweighes his speed to the trifecta.... That being said Brandt said again A) you are going to like the pick, and B) you are going to be surprised..... Breakdown......3 people come to mind as suprise, Tebow, Spiller, and Bryant.....2 people out of that 3 are the surprise/like combo....Spiller, and Bryant... Spiller.....I cant see it guys, I cant see it from a RB standpoint at 12, to take him, regardless of his playmaking ability....there are RB's they can get later if at all.... Bryant, as much as I want him even less now with Marshall, I realize there are ALOT of people on here, and in Dolphins nation that do.....I wonder what happens if he makes it past Denver....
Thought this was quite funny: Taken from Michael Silver's Lies, Lies and Lies segment. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Am2_jSNZQYMBOfCv27RSLTw5nYcB?slug=ms-thegameface041610
If Brandt is Parcell's friend who was on the radio I wouldn't put to much stock in his comments. Everything is a smoke screen at this time of the year. It's pretty generic to say that 'you will be surprised, but like the pick'. Nobody knows what player is going to be available when any team picks, unless you have the 1st pick in the draft. Grain of salt.
According to nfl.com its a fifth rounder http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d81791788&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
That's about what I figured. A 4th would have been about the max anyone could have hoped for. Honestly, I think he had more value as a KR and potential 2nd wideout than a 5th round pick, but that's just me.
I just can't get on board with moving Ginn for a 5th rounder. It's not as if he makes insane money. Even if Ginn never got any better, the chances of a 5th rounder matching his production are so slim it's laughable.
Chalk me up to hating this move. I think he is worth much more then a 5th rounder as a KR. Of course his salary wasn't that of the KR though.
Listen guys its not over i have a feeling that 5th is going to be bundled with another pick to move up and grab a position of need. I also think we draft a wideout to everyones surprise
I still think he has a lot of potential as a WR. It's ridiculous to say "he drops the ball" when this is the only season in his life he had that problem. His route running improved a hell of a lot this season, as did the other areas of his game. It would have been much better to give me one more season to put all of it together. Like I said before, I'm very willing to bet he passes 800 yards receiving this season.
It won't be Tebow if Brandt says we will like the pick. Everyone here will hate it, and some will most definitely kill themselves. I'd toss Bryant out as well for a few reasons. With Brandon Marshall, we have a top 3 receiver in the league and have guys in Hartline, Bess and Camarillo who are PERFECT complementary receivers. The other reason is Marshall already comes with enough baggage. Do we really want to use our first round pick on another guy who has a lot of baggage at the same position? I just see no reason to take Bryant. We are set at receiver for quite some time. Spiller is the only one that makes sense. Especially with Ronnie's uncertainty and Ricky's age. I could definitely see Spiller being the pick but I still prefer a pass rusher or safety there.
I'm not betting. I agree with you. Ted Ginn has a change of scenery breakout player written all over him. He will be very good for them, but it just wasn't going to work here. It was time to move on and like I said earlier I'm sad to see him go but it was time.
