This happened to Jeff Feagles twice. I forget who, but he got a nice vacation to a tropical island and a very, very nice grill out of it. No joke.

    Canada EH!
He can get #15 easily when Bess is traded for draft picks!
On a more serious note, number 88 would be nice for him.

Ahhhhh, agents........ They know just what to say, don't they? Seriously though, if BM really wants #15, do you think the Dolphins FO is not going to give it to him? IMO this is just a case of an agent not knowing when to STFU...

If Bess keeps this crap up, trade his ***.

Give the # to Marshall. No ifs, ands, or but's about it. Period.

Bess does not have the rank to be making demands. If Bess doesn't like it, be an elite WR for the Miami Dolphins like Marshall is, then you can demand stuff.

Until then, STFU Bess or GTFO.

Im probably in the minority here, but I think Bess earned his number, and he was here before Marshall. The man is entitled to his number.

    wrong.

It's Bess's number. PERIOD. and he's not going anywhere.

looks like this is Marshall's first oppritunity to show some maturity and that he can be a good teammate.

Talk to Bess, see if he can persuade him (with large sums of that new money) but if not, just move on to another number.....

I hope that Marshall moves on to 85....don't know why but that's the number I think would fit him.

Here's the deal.....get Fasano to change to 88 (his college number) then Sperry to 80 (his college number) and BM can have 85.

Our two new stars would then be
    58 Dansby
    85 Marshall

....I love it when a plan comes together!! ;)

Do you really wanna set that kind of precedent with a brand new possibly "diva" receiver?

You can't just give the favorite what he wants, when he wants it, just cause he cries about it.

If Sparano forces Bess to hand over his number, I am not sure that will breed the kind of locker room atmosphere you would want your team to have.

Dude, Bess battled as an undrafted free agent, worked his *** off in camp and earned a spot on the team, then went on to be a solid semi-star for us for the last 2 years. If Bess doesn't want to give up his number, he shouldn't have to. First come, first served.

I would imagine he will be catching even more footballs now. I know it was a long time ago guys, but remember when Bess was even doubled up? :shifty:

Bess will now be in the perfect position to become a Welker type. With Brandon being our Moss (obviously not saying Brandon is Moss just saying he is OUR Moss) Davone will be a lot more ignored than he was before.

Good for him. I like Bess, always have.

    but facts are facts -

Bess is a below average WR. He is in no position to make demands.

Marshall is a Top 3 WR, he is the greatest WR we have had in Miami since maybe Paul Waurfield. He is also a headcase, diva, 1 infraction away from being suspended for 1 year.

Give the damn number to Marshall, NOW.

Bess is mature, he can handle it.

Marshall is LEARNING to be mature. Don't confront him with a huge EGO battle between him and Bess BEFORE TRAINING CAMP EVEN BEGINS!!

Bess needs to be the bigger man and give up his number so Marshall has no problems with his transition to his new team. Then we can mature him and bring him along slowly.

you know what they should do? Race for it. 40 yds. Winner gets it.

That would instantly make them both cooler IMO, if that's how they settled it.

So you're advocating making one player seem more important than the other? That goes against everything this team stands for. It's the exact reason Marshall and Dansby didn't have press confrences announcing their arrival. It's a team of 53, not 1 and to just rip away Bess' number and give it to the new guy, smacks of favortism.

If Bess wants to keep the number he's worn for 2 years, he should be allowed to.

he's not below average....28 WR's were target 100+ times last season and Bess had the 3rd highest catch % among them. He's not elite, and I'm not saying he's in BM category, but below average is an insult and inaccurate.

    and he's not making demands.

    he's simply keeping his number.

btw - I don't know why but your avatar is somewhat disturbing....is that Nicolas Cage playing Andre the Giant??

Marshall haven't asked for the number. It was Bess' agent who commented about the numbers not Bess himself.

By the way, Bess is not below average receiver. Anyone who think this did not watch Miami games last two years.

You can't be serious here. He was asked a question, he answered it. He didn't say he wouldn't give up his number for the right price, but he didn't want to make an issue out of it.

What demands has Bess made? Did you hear the interview?

    Brandon Marshalls 40 = 4.56
    Davone Bess' 40 = 4.64

Seriously, that's pretty neck and neck. They should race for it!

Marshall's college # was 6, which is probably why he went with 15(1+5=6 mathtime fun), maybe he goes 16 or 86. Someone mentioned 80, yeah that would be badass.

    That's not a bad idea.

Make a joke out of it, and have them compete :)

Then it wouldn't be an insult to Marshall or Bess.

but still, what if Bess says "I'm not competing, I was here first!"

    Childish idealism.... grow up, dude.

If everyone was equal, Bess would have a 4 year, 47.5 million dollar deal too.

Get in touch with reality. Some players are more important than others.

Don't try and live in your own little fantasy world with peaches and cupcake rainbows where everyone is "equal"

Listen, Bud, it's not childish idealism, it's the philosopy of our front office. Your assertion that "Some players are more important than others" is exactly opposite of what our front office believes. If you don't understand that, then you obviously don't understand what the Miami Dolphins do.

On top of that, my world of "peaches and cupcake rainbows" is a ****ing fallacy made up by you to try and be insulting because I don't agree with your position. Try and take the high road next time and leave out the BS statements.

I haven't read to this whole thread but Bess has every right to keep his number if he wishes. Marshall has the right to make an offer, of course but that's it. And frankly the team should stand behind Bess. That would probably be one of the best lessons for Marshall. He is joining a team. He is being counted on to be a big part of that team, but he is not bigger than the team.

That being said I don't expect there to be an issue. I think that Marshall (the guy who has acted so immaturely in the past) will probably act more maturely in this instance than some of the posts in this thread.
