Why next year's second rounder is overrated

    Something to think about when analyzing this trade for Brandon Marshall is the depth (or lack thereof) of next year's draft. It is no secret that this year's draft is better because a lot of juniors came out early for fear of the collective bargaining agreement seriously changing how rookies are paid starting next year.

    So a ton of would be seniors are now pros earlier and thus, rendering next year's draft class somewhat weak. Add to that, that juniors NEXT year might hold back as well since the CBA still might not be resolved or is but is no longer structured to pay unproven rookies tons of cash as previous years.

    In other words, the financial incentive may not be there as much as year's past.

    So in essence, from a talent standpoint, we may be looking at a draft class next year that is short on talent and because of it, players that would normally go in the second or third round, will be pushed up and their value inflated.

    So you can make an argument that in essence, the second round we gave up next year isn't nearly as valueable as whatever it normally would be at that slot. The other side of that coin is that THIS year's pick was that much more valueable, so I suppose it ends up a wash, but just something to think about when everyone is complaining a year from now for not having a second rounder. :wink2:

    i'm not sure i buy that next years draft class is weaker ... but do agree that this years is exceptionally deep.

    i think next year, is next year ... and there are things that could happen along the way - that could recoup the pick ... that was why i advocated just 1 pick this year, and another - if necessary next year.

    Maybe theres a lockout next year and there is no draft so we get Marshall for only a 2010 second round pick! Doubt it would work like that but it would be hilarious :lol:

    Well, here's another thing to consider...we have an entire year to try and replace that pick via a trade. Several players have been rumored to be on the trade block. Then there's always the possibility of trading down in the first round of next year's draft. Point is, we have time on our side.

    As for giving up this year's second round pick, same thing re; trading down (in round one). Basically, if we replace either or both picks via a trade of some sort, it's a win/win scenario IMO.

    I'm not going to ponder too hard about your logic, because it makes me feel even better about today's events! Thanks!

    Adding Marshall puts you from No playoffs to SB?

    Phins fans called Holmes a cancer, but marshall is going to be on his best behavior?

    Don't get me wrong..Brandon is the 2nd best WR behind Andre johnson, but never ever has a WR put a team over the top...

    SEE TO in Philly...

    Or See Any drama queen WR under Parcells.

    We will somehow trade and get the Jets second rounder, which will be the 33rd overall pick :up:

    In a perfect world

    Ok, team impacts...

    TO > Crom
    TO > LT
    TO = or < Holmes... However I do not think TO has ever been suspended for off the field altercations.. That being said TO > Holmes

    And for the record, I did not bash the Jets signings... I am one who believes the Jets are far better now than they were last year.. So there...

    Lol actually TO got the Eagles to their Super Bowl and almost single handedly won that game for them. If only McNabb could have held out.

    LT = washed up
    Crom = suck
    Holmes = risky but fantastic value

    Marshall = risky but top 3 WR in the league.

    Its cool, you guys went from no playoffs to AFC championship. We went from 1-15 to playoffs. Yes, this move as well as Dansby does make us contenders. Favorites? No. Contenders? Certainly.

    The real reason why next year's second rounder is overrated is because we don't have a pick in the second round.

    The jets have had a solid offseason. Holmes is a great wr and will make them better. LT i don't think has much left. He'll show some flash here and there to remind people what he once was capable of, but that's about it. And Cromartie sucks. Big time.

    But, in the end, I don't see Sanchez as a winner. Just don't see it in him. I think giving him all these weapons may in fact hurt the team. Braylon and Holmes aren't 'sure-handed' wrs, and they don't block well. That's why Cotchery is still the wr that best fits what the jets need from the WR, ironically.

    But now Sanchez is going to be asked to pass at least 30-40 times a game with so many weapons and i don't think he's ready (may not ever be) for it. They got to the playoffs on Thomas Jones legs and by asking Sanchez to pass a whole lot less as the season went on. Now Jones is gone and Sanchez will have to pass even more.
