Its called building a SB contender that will win now. Meanwhile we are on year 6 of our rebuilding since Wanny / Jim Bates 4-12 debacle !
3rd round pick or lower is more than worth it for this guy and the jets get him for a 5th and we do nothing. This offseason is turning out to be a failure...only the draft can save us now.
Who says they won't? They have a good defense, good running game, good oline, and are giving weapons to a young QB who displayed some ability in his rookie year, and still have the draft. Fact is, the Jets are having a really good off-season and if you recall, they did go to the AFC championship game. These aren't the Jets of old.
Because when the deal to realign was done, Wayne Huizenga asked the NFL to leave us in the AFC East. Blame scarface !
The Jets have been trying to "win now" for several years. Brett Favre? I do wonder though, if the Bengals and Colts didn't lay down at the end of the season, would people still be this scared of Jersey B?
Last year proved you don't have to win the division. All you have to do is get into the playoffs. At this point, the Jets are out-right contenders for the division and probably a lock for one of the wild-card spots. Meanwhile, we rebuild for the upteenth year.......
The Jets gave a 5th rounder for 12 games (he's suspended for 4), then he becomes a FA, so they'll have to re-sign him. Do they re-sign him and Braylon Edwards? One of them will be gone after this season.
But this looks scarier and more real than any of their other years of "win now". This looks very legit. Its just very depressing . Dolfans = Cubs fans of the NFL
Strength of schedule is determined by the win-loss records of the teams on the schedule. The NFL can't control which teams win or lose their games.
The guy had over 1200 yards recieving last year. Even if it is for 12 games it is still a steal in my mind.
WTF says they will? Last time I checked games are won and lost on the field, not on a sheet of paper. They got swept by us and backed into the playoffs. Not that much has changed and the off season is just beginning, a lot can and will change. As they say in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy "Don't Panic". Exactly, some people need to take a deep breath and if needed a chill pill. They haven't won anything yet. This is nothing new. They are a contender for the division. Then again so are the Pats and Dolphins. Also don't completely count the bills out as this is an anything can happen league. As for "Meanwhile, we rebuild for the upteenth year" If you try and evaluate anything outside the scope of what this regime has done and try to some how penalize them for it, well let me just say that isn't fair nor is it being realistic. Been there seen that before. The outcome of this season and the winner of the division and how well teams do or do not do will only be decided during the season. I still like our chances. Huizenga, did what was best for the team. His team. These rivalry's are priceless. I doubt if you asked the Colts fans about rivalry's hey would still consider the teams in the AFC east some of their biggest rivals and yet they only get to play us once every couple years. Had he moved us to a different division myself and many others would have been devastated. IMO he absolutely did the right thing.
then I will ask a again (I asked last week and never saw an answer) why then if we ended up in 3rd behind the Jets will we play 8 playoff teams and the Jets will play 6 ? That doesn't make any sense.
Because if your a REAL front office you do your job!!!!!!! You make calls to every team and ask questions on if players are available. This is nothing new. The teams that are hungry will make the moves they need to. This front office acts like *******s to established VETS like Taylor stringing him around instead of saying get lost or offering him a lower priced contract. (Regardless of my take on him and his diva ways - personally I think they should trade him or release him) This front office acts like their collective **** doesn't stink when it clearly does. You don't get good players with your EGO's you ask around and WORK to make a deal to help your team. Something this front office clearly doesn't do. While I applauded the signing of Dansby Im starting to worry about him being able to Cover Deep, Block Defensive Linemen, Catch a pass over 10 yards, or block for himself coming out of the backfield..Something he will have to do since it's clear we don't need any more help from other veterans.. Just sick of this crap. Go ahead call me a moron and I don't know anything about football, that teams are built through the draft and the draft alone.. Go Ahead and tell me we just need 2 more years again for the 20th year in a row, sell me your story of bad free-agent signings and play me our fight song once again while I put on my rose colored glasses. I'm tired of the Bull****... There are / Were players who could help this team immediately but we somehow decided in our brilliance that we know better. Hell I wouldn't care if all our free-agency signing were BUSTS at least I could sleep at night knowing my team TRIED! Clearly something this team doesn't..
Well, when you consider 5th rounders usually don't amount to much, yes. However, according to a Pittsburgh Newspaper, he was going to be cut if the Jets didn't snatch him up.
Because of division opponents. The Jets made the playoffs, the Dolphins did not. Therefore, the Dolphins have two playoff teams in their division, whereas the Jets and Pats only have one (each other).
This is just me talking, but it'd probably be better if we at least gave them the benefit of actually drafting some guys before we indict the offseason as a failure. Hell we might even make a trade. I think another thing we tend to lose sight of is the fact that the current Jets regime inherited a pretty talented group. They were pretty well set at many core areas before Ryan rolled into New Jersey. The running game was already top notch. The offensive line was already set. The defensive line was strong. Three of four linebacker spots were solidified. He inherited the best CB in the game. He inherited one of the most dangerous return men in the game. He inherited a young, athletic TE. The Jets are aggressive in acquiring players, absolutely. And they've done a tremendous job making trades. But it's a easier to take such risks when you're not in rebuild mode. The Jets are going for broke right now because they're close. Miami still has a ways to go. I think we all respect Jeff Fisher and his long tenure in Tennessee. He took over a team that finished 2-14 midway thru the 1994 season. Over the next four years, his Oilers/Titans never did better than 8-8. In 1999, he went 13-3 and came up 1 yard short in the Super Bowl. They lost to the Rams, who were on a tear similar to ours this decade. Vermeil won a total of 9 games the previous two seasons -- STL hadn't seen .500 in a decade -- and was on the verge of losing his locker room. Then they exploded. Sometimes it takes awhile to bake a good cake.
You can always root for the Redskins, every offseason they do exactly what you want to with such great results...
Sorry guys and gals... I just don't see the sky is falling... Let us wait till the games are played...
wow. did this thread go insane. LOL. Jets made a good, though slightly risky trade. Relax. It doesnt reflect on us at all. Some people act like we screwed up by not getting him. It has nothing to do with us. Let the draft play out and relax. The Jets arent winning it all next year and if we find some players this draft, we'll be right there with them. The way Sanchez holds on to the ball and tries to milk evvery second back there in the pocket, I doubt he survives the season uninjured
He may just surprise some people. He looked very good his rookie season. I'm anxious to see what year two brings.
The only true positive in this is that the Jets likely won't draft a WR at #29... increasing the chances of Thomas, Tate, or Benn slipping to #43
I'm not getting too carried away. It all looks great on paper but we need to see if Sanchez can consistently do what he did in the playoffs. Brian Schotty is an absolute ****ing ****** at OC, so he could yet find a way to **** this up. We can't get away from the fact that we are a run first team. Santo is a great pickup and our weapons could cause severe matchup problems but our QB still needs to make the plays. Sanchez flashed brilliance at times, if he can even be mediocre this season we have a great chance. All the credit in the world to Mike Tannenbaum. He simply knows how to get deals done, he's giving Sanchez every chance to be successful.
Fair enough, maybe they will, thats why the play the games... All I'm saying is that if they don't, they have nothing left. They have traded away much of the next 2 drafts. They don't have depth anywhere except WR right now. They have let their best offensive weapon go, and brought in a broken down LT to try to replace that spot. Their starting defense is very good, but they have absolutely NOTHING behind that starting unit. Same goes for the offensive unit. They also have a QB that throws lots and lots and lots of INT's and not that many TD's to back it up.... All I'm saying is, if they fall short yet again, they are gonna pay for these moves for a long long long long time.
Most of his INT's came from the start of the season to the middle, he is learning, thats what rookies do, all our front office is doing is putting him in the position to be a winner, its up to him now! No matter what, i get the chance to see my team take a chance on a great WR, even if he has some off the field issues, doesnt matter, this is an exciting time for the Jets. A 5th rounder for this guy, huge steal, spin it however you want, i heard people say that Holmes isnt a #1 WR, fine, he will be our #2, Edwards has the #1 spot. You can say we are costing us our future, fine, i just love waking up and seeing my team have some balls and go for what they want!
First off, Snatcho will continue to be a turnover machine. You eluded to it, and see how it pans out. You are far ans away a run first team. Well guess what, we'll see how that goes without Thomas Jones. You are counting on Greene who hs been injured off and on for several years, Leon W who is gonna take time to come back, ESPECIALLY with that injury and his style of play and an L-T who is 2 years over the hill. SDnatcho will be pressured and turn it over again. Keep in mind, all balls and no brains will have you knocking up your teenage sweetheart and living in a mobile home this time next year.
I know that we are a run first team, no doubt about that. Our offensive line is what made Jones what he was. You say Green has been injured on and off for years? He was a rookie last season, get your facts straight before you call a player out.
