Ok I am a bit late in starting this up:no:

Anyway outside of the opener(in which I did get to go to), the season has started poorly. The last pair of games were really bad allowing double digit runs:pity:
And as a bad sign, the last time the club started 1-4 was 1988. That year was awful and Cookie Rojas was the manager, the only year that Cookie has in a Halo uniform. This year the new tv announcer is Cookie's son, Victor. Could be a bad sign.

The Angels sluggish start, 4-7 is bothersome. So I am looking for reasons for it.
The offense has been poor. 42 runs in the 11 games, at a 3.8 run a game clip. Bobby Abreau has not been up to his usual standards hitting .250 with only 2 walks (normally he would be near 10 walks by this point). Niether Kendry Morales nor Juan Rivera have a walk. And Brandon Wood has been worse than a pitcher hitting .100 without an exta base hit and only 1 walk ( last year Angel pitchers hit .143 with a walk).
The relief pitching has not been good. Scot Shields has looked bad. Jason Bulger has been ineffective also. The garbage time pitchers have been lousy also.

    Hopefully there will be improvement.

Ok the 1st month of the season is finished with a 12-12 record. Fortunately since the AL West is not strong the 12-12 record is good for a 1st place tie:hi5:.

Through April the offense is still not great. Only 99 runs scored, a rate of 4.125 per game:pity:. That ranks 9th in the AL. Hitting into 22 doublr plays do not help. Juan Riveria has an OBP below .300, and the 8th, and 9th spots in the lineup have been watelands.

The pitching has been worse. A 4.82 ERA is awful:angry: Next to last in the AL. The starters have given up 25 home runs so far.

The schedule has not been easy either. All but 3 games were against teams with a .500 or better record.

Well it could be worse. The expected record should have been 10-14.

Nice to see Wood progressing. That start was brutal. Hopefully he can keep improving. Still worried about pitching. Weaver has been great, but pretty much everyone else makes me nervous.

I really dont have anything positive to say about how the team is playing right now.:pity:
I know its too early to push the panic button but they need to get it together asap!

It is too bad the team really isnt that good this year, however they do not have a true ace.....Losing Lackey and Fig is proving more costly than first thought of....

Well even though tonight's game was a win it was irritating to watch the end.

The Halos are up 5-4 to start the 9th. Fuentes gets leadoff batter, Alex Gonzalez, to hit a popup to right. Boby Abreu screws up by trying to slide while making the catch, drops the ball, then kicks it allowing Gonzalez to go to 2nd. After a strikeout, catcher John Buck hits a 1-2 pitch into left field for a double tying up the game.
In the bottom the inning Mike Napoli legs out a double to left. He gets to 3rd on a Maicer Istuis ground out. The next guys get intentionally walked, so Howie Kendrick hits a grounder to Gonzalez at short who makes a good play to get the forceout on Napoli at the plate. So Abreau gets a chance at redemption. He comes through with a single to left to win the game.

Well the win is good, but costing an extra 15 minutes and Joel Pinero a win was irritating.

Today there was great victory:hi5:, yet the season may have been destroyed today:pity:. Also Bill Gramatica no longer holds the title for overcited celebrations with disasterous consequences:no::tongue2:.

In the game itself, a great pitching performance by Jared Weaver was wasted due to no offense (0 runs through 7 innings), and a stupid play by Erick Aybar (instead of throwing to Howie Kendrick for an easy force-out at 2nd base, Aybar went to the base himself, did not beat the runner to 2nd base, then threw the ball into the crowd behind 1st base. The umpires determined that since the runner going 2nd base made it there prior to the bad throw, that runner was allowed to score) cost the Angels the lone run of the game. Also Torri Hunter was hit on the wrist in the 1st inning and left the game.
A Bobby Abreau home run in the 8th tied up the game. So in the bottom of the 10th, a double, an intentional walk, and an error loaded the bases for Kendry Morales. Morales hits a bomb into the rockpile in left-center for the walk-off grand slam.
As Morales rounds the bases, the entire team gathers at home plate. Morales starts to celebrate by first slamming his helmet albout halfway down the 3rd base line, then attempts a leap onto home plate into his teamates. Well as he landed from his leap, something happens to his left leg upon the landing. It is possible that he might have had his left foot land on on another player. Anyway he went down and stayed down for ten minutes. He apparently broke his lower left leg, and will be operated on over the weekend. He will definitely be out for awhile.
This celebration may be as bad the one Bill Gramatica did for the Arizona Cardinals at the Medowlands in December 2001. Gramatica celebrated a 42 yard field goal with a lively excited dance. However since the Meadowlands had a hard rug with even less give in colder weather, Gramatica landed his left leg awkwardly, and blew out his left ACL.

Well just 9 days after the Kendry Morales celebration disaster, the Halos are in 1st place:hi5:
It has been a bit shocking that the Halos are 8-1 since Morales went down. However it shows how good a manager Mike Sciocia is.
