With the 160th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select, LeGarrette Blount, HB, Oregon

We needed a 3rd HB and we feel Blount is great value at this pick. He's not going to run away from too many people, but he certainly will punch you in the mouth (litterally and figuratively), and that's Steelers football. He had his issues this year, but has shown remorse and worked to bring back his draft stock to what it once was. He put on a show during the combine, and will fight for time in our backfield with Jerious Norwood.

With the 164th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select, Darryl Sharpton, LB, The U

Sharpton is a little undersized for the 3-4, but he's still a very good player and we feel can follow in the footsteps of some of the good linebackers to come out of the University of Miami in the past few years. He's got great speed and athleticism and at the very least should be a special teams standout, but we think he can be a contributor on defense as well.

Moaeki is a hard working player who should give the Cardinals options as both a TE and an H-Back in their offensive system. He has had injury problems but should be a steal for them proving he has put the injuries behind him. Solid athlete who at worst should find a home on special teams.

    (He's #55)

Olsen is the 4th Center taken in this year's draft, and he might just be the meanest. Despite playing for those wussy "Fighting" Irish (sorry ND fans), Olsen has developed somewhat of a mean streak at the center position. Think Richie Incognito - without the baggage. He should fit in well with what the Panthers are looking to do with their offensive line, and it's not out of the question to see him develop into a team captain down the line.

With the 169th pick in the draft, the Buffalo Bills select:

    Jeremy Williams/WR/Tulane

Tulane University senior receiver Jeremy Williams capped off his college career in grand fashion on the national stage as he was named the Senior Bowl South Team MVP following his 109 all-purpose yard outing (27 rushing, 82 receiving). After torching opposing defenses the last four years, Williams made quick work of some of the top defenders in college football. On his lone rushing attempt of the game, he took an end-around 27 yards, which proved to be the longest rushing play of the day, and he caught a game-best six receptions for 82 yards

At 6-1, the 201-pound wideout, Williams was an honorable mention All-Conference USA selection this season. He reeled in 84 passes for 1,113 yards and seven touchdowns. His 92.8 receiving yards per game ranked fourth in C-USA this season and twelfth in the nation. Williams' best game of the year came against UTEP when he totaled 324 all-purpose yards, which ranks third in Tulane single-game history and is tied for third in the country this year. Williams finished his career ranked fourth in school history in receptions (197) and receiving yards (2,807). He ranks seventh on Tulane's list in touchdown catches (19) and fifth in 100-yard receiving.

With the 170th pick in the draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select, O'brien Schofield, OLB, Wisconsin.

Schofield was one of our favorite players in the draft. Before he was injured he was wowing his way through All Star games on his way towards the 1st round. The injury definitely pushed him down and probably means he won't be able to do much right away, but we feel that he will still become a very good outside linebacker in the future. We think he'll be a great fit in our defense as well.

With the 171nd selection in the NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select...

    DANARIO ALEXANDER, WR, MIZZOU

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTDP19DFQjk"]YouTube- Danario Alexander 2009[/ame]

It's never easy to replace a great player and a first round draft pick, but that is exactly what Danario Alexander did. Through his good route running and good hands, he made many forget Jeremy Maclin and had 113 reception, 1,781 yards, and 14 TDs.

One thing that makes him attractive is that he can play without the ball in his hands. He was very involved in the run game and not just chicken fighting with CBs but cracking down on DEs and LBs.

We know a lot about knees and the kinds of players best able to come back from multiple knee surgeries. His size-to-speed ratio should still be quite good. He’s got good hands. He may lose a little hops, but frankly he had some to spare with his 46.5" vertical. With his long legs and arms he should remain plenty dangerous on jump balls and high tosses in general.

In regards to Alexander's ACL injury:

The truth is that he tore his ACL and the ligament was reconstructed with a graft. The "second time he tore his ACL" was simply a graft failure. In other words, the problem was with the graft and it has nothing to do with Alexander or him being more prone to injury. Grafts do occasionally fail, but this should not make Alexander's ACL injury any worse than someone like Maclin's his freshman year, aside from missing additional time on the field.

Talented player that has had work both inline and as a fullback. He's a pretty good route runner and has very good hands. He needs more work as a lead blocker but he's had work as an inline blocker and fared pretty well. He needs some work against speed rushers but overall he's good and still developing. Happy to have him in the West Coast offense.

    SEYI AJIROTUTU

Taking a similar approach to the Miami Dolphins in years past, we decided to “double up” on one of our key positions, selecting Wide Receiver Seyi Ajirotutu late in round 6. Ajirotutu exemplifies the size and speed combination that we are looking for in our WRs. A bit of a sleeper prospect at the WR position, we think he could challenge for a roster spot and possibly the #4 WR position. He has the size and characteristics to develop into a very solid WR for us down the road.

Ajirotutu is a fluid athlete, but sort of a long strider. He has superior height and leeping ability, which allows him to win a lot of jump ball situations against smaller defensive backs. His size also makes him a naturally good blocker in the running game.

Ajirotutu has been moving steadily up draft boards these last several months, particularly after the Shrine Bowl. After watching Ajirotutu former head coach Marty Schottenheimer to remark that he “reminds me a lot of Vincent Jackson or Malcom Floyd in San Diego. He is a big kid and can run like the wind. I’ve been very impressed by him." With that kind of praise, we feel like we are making the right decision, as well as getting great value, in bringing Ajirotutu into the fold at this stage in the draft.

Truth be told, we’re very happy to get him at this point in the draft, and were seriously considering him at pick 155 before trading down to 178. We’re happy that he’s still on the board, and that we were able to pick up an extra pick in the process.

    SCOUTING REPORT

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1245530

Overall we’re taking a flyer late in the draft on a guy who could develop into a very nice wide receiver for us down the line. We project him as our #4 WR to start the season, and we will initially ask him to be a big contributor on Special Teams. He will need time to hone his route running at the NFL level, but we believe Seyi has the drive and physical ability to one day become a very competent NFL WR. We’re very happy to make him a Tampa Bay Buccaneer late in round 6.

Miller deserves to go a lot higher than this (as have many of our picks), but we will gladly take him and allow him to prove other teams wrong on Sundays as he provides valuable depth behind Michael Turner.

With the 194th pick, The Buffalo Bills select:

    Willie Rose/FB/Florida Atlantic University

Willie Rose plays like a throwback, talks like a throwback and looks like a throwback.
“I take my responsibilities as a fullback with the highest regard,” Rose stated. “I just want to win. I don’t care if I don’t get any touchdowns. I don’t care if I don’t catch a single ball in the flat. If all I have to do is pass block, I don’t care.” That attitude is what makes coaches and quarterbacks happy.

Buffalo is hopeful that his throwback style sparks their special teams while he develops into an important part of their offense.

With the 195th pick, the Jets select

WR Donald Jones, Youngstown State University

    Overview
While Jones was starring at Plainfield High School, little did he realize that his college life would result in a bit of a world tour before he found a home in Ohio. Blessed with the size, speed and athleticism to be an elite pass catcher, the YSU captain has been a revelation for the Penguins since wresting a starting job after several games of his junior campaign.

His impact since arriving at Youngstown State led to Jones becoming the first receiver since Herb Williams in 1992 to be named team captain. He is also the first junior college player since defensive back Sherod Holmes (presently an assistant coach for the Penguins) to wear the captain's hat for YSU.

A two-way standout as a receiver and defensive back during his prep days, Jones was expected to enroll at the University of Wisconsin in 2006. Former Badgers head coach Barry Alvarez likened Jones' athletic ability to that of Al Toon, regarded as the premier pass catcher in Wisconsin history. However, he had trouble getting through the NCAA clearing house and ended up going to Lackawanna (Pa.) Community College.

Under the guidance of head coach Mark Duda, a former University of Maryland player who went on to perform in the National Football League for both the St. Louis and Phoenix Cardinals (1983-89), Jones greatly improved his route-running ability, becoming the complete wideout. He led Lackawanna College to the North East Football Conference title during his sophomore year, scoring five times behind 42 receptions while averaging 17.81 yards per catch.

The major colleges took notice, with nearby Temple offering him a scholarship. Syracuse, Virginia and Mississippi were also highly interested in Jones for 2007. It appeared he would join Ole Miss for the 2007 season, but the new Rebels coaching staff "let the ball slip" through their fingers and the junior decided to enroll at Youngstown State, where their coaching staff coveted a player of his ability.

"Things just didn't work out with Ole Miss and the YSU coaches were there and I knew about the great tradition they had here so it didn't take long to make a decision," Jones said. And what a great "coup" for the Penguins it was, as he became a full-time starter by the sixth game of the 2008 campaign.

At Plainfield High School, the two-way starter earned All-State, All-Area, All-Group IV, All-Division North II and All-Watchung American Conference honors as a senior. He received a two-star prospect rating from Scout.com and was named as one of the Super 100 players on the Rivals.com squad.

In 2005, Jones collected 24 passes (team completed just 46 tosses) for 418 yards (17.42-yard average) and three touchdowns, adding two more scores on six rushing attempts. He averaged 33.75 yards with an 80-yard score as a kickoff returner and 14.33 yards with another score on punt returns. He also made nine tackles with two pass deflections while playing strong safety.

Some of his senior year highlights included 74 yards and a score on three grabs and 100 yards on two kickoff returns vs. Shabazz High, adding a 19-yard touchdown run vs. Cranford. He scored on a 3-yard reverse vs. Union High and raced 56 yards for a score on a punt return while killing a pair of East Side High possessions with third-down pass break-ups.

Jones exploded for an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown vs. Elizabeth High and handed Union a 20-0 shutout, as he caused a crucial touchdown to set up his own 24-yard scoring grab, making five catches for 69 yards. Perhaps his most sensational touchdown catch was the 67-yarder as #10 snared the ball between two safeties before heading to the end zone for the Cardinals vs. Bridgewater-Raritan. In addition to his gridiron success, he showed off his athletic skills for the Blue-&-Scarlet baseball team.

At Lackawanna College, Jones appeared in nine games as a freshman in 2006 (seven as a receiver). He managed to grab 11 receptions for 179 yards (16.27-yard average), adding 19 yards on two punt returns and 150 yards on six kickoff returns. In addition to making 42 catches for 748 yards as a sophomore, he averaged 11.25 yards as a punt returner, 6.33 yards on six reverses and made a key tackle after a Lackawanna pass was intercepted in 2007.

Jones was eased into the lineup at Youngstown State in 2008. He had just three receptions in the team's first four games, but after coming off the bench to produce for 74 yards with a score on five grabs vs. Liberty, he was named the Penguins' starting "X" receiver for the final seven contests.

He totaled 31 receptions, third on the squad, good for 510 yards (16.45 ypc) with seven touchdowns and finished second on the team in scoring with 42 points. He was also the "table-setter" for the offense, as 23 of his receptions resulted in first downs, and he had crucial grabs on twelve touchdown drives and another possession that led to a field goal.

While Jones was limited in 2009 spring drills due to a hamstring injury, he concentrated on his training room performances. From a 190-pounder prior to 2008, the now 212-pound flanker was a "target" for opposing defensive coordinators throughout his senior year. Despite constant double- and sometimes triple-coverage, he ranked 13th in the nation and second in the Missouri Valley Football Conference with an average of 7.0 receptions per game.

His 77 catches set the school season-record, becoming just the third player in YSU annals to have at least 70 receptions in a campaign. He generated 700 yards (10.26 yards per catch) and six touchdowns in 11 games. He has also provided solid emergency work for the punt return unit, averaging 6.88 yards on eight attempts. To truly appreciate his value on offense, he is responsible for more than a third of the team's catches (34.0%), receiving yardage (33.13%) and scoring receptions (35.7%).

In his role as the squad's table-setter, in addition to his six touchdown receptions, Jones came up with key grabs to set up 13 touchdown drives (team has a total of 26 touchdowns on offense, as he had a hand in 19 of those scores). He also pulled down passes that got the team in field position to make seven of their nine field goals. That translates to a contribution on 135 of the team's 188 offensive points (71.81%).

GN JMHphin has specific knowledge of this WR and is very happy he is available.

    DANIEL TE'O-NESHEIM

Once again we decided to double up in the draft, this time grabbing the very underrated Te'o-Nesheim of Washington. For us this was a case of taking the highest rated player still on our board, as we had actually considered taking Te'o-Nesheim over Misi way back in Round 4.

Originally considered one of those “hustle” players that gets by more with willpower than with pure physical skill, Te'o-Nesheim turned that idea on it’s head during the NFL Combine. He put on quite a show at Indianapolis, posting a very solid 40 yard dash as well as a ridiculous short shuttle time of 4.18 seconds.

We think that, despite his size, Te'o-Nesheim has the makings of a very good SDE for us, though he will also see time for us at WDE. Our plan is to rotate him into the lineup along with White, Misi, and Babin. He’s a solid depth player who could eventually take on a greater role for us in the future.

We’re very excited to add Te'o-Nesheim to our roster early in round 7. We believe he offers us tremendous defensive line depth. He’s a hustle player, and you can never have too many of those on your team. In addition, he’s show impressive physical skill going back to his performance at the NFL Combine. He should find a home for us right away in our defensive line rotation, and could potentially be a long-term answer for us as a SDE.
