Everything thing I've been reading has been can the dolphins move down out of the first pick but what if instead of that they pick first, and look to move back up in the first round. They could use picks 32 (first 2nd rd pick) and 64 (first 3rd rd pick) to move up to around 20th in the first round. I'm not saying it could happen but what would our options be if it did. I think our approach to the draft could be a lot different as we could get say Chris Long and possibly a Tackle in the first round. Any suggestions on where the Dolphins would go with there picks if they went that way with the draft. Also realize that there is still a good chance JT will be traded by the draft, and that woulld give us probably another 2nd round pick and possibly an additional late round. Any ideas?
Trade back into the first? Hmm interesting, but we do need some quality and quantity, and moving back into the first would stop that from happening. As for me, if Dan Conner is at #32, he should be our guy, if not him, then Lofton from Oklahama.
yeah, its an interesting idea hooserdaddy, but I dont think its whats best for us this year. we need as many picks as we can get, id hate to have to give up a 3rd (as you suggest) in order to move up a few spots since our first second is really like a first rounder. I just dont think its worth it for us to do. nice idea though!
We need as many picks as we can, so I am not for giving up two 2nd round picks to move into the 1st, or a 2nd and a 3rd, unless it was to move into the top 10.
I agree that we need as many picks to add good depth but I just thought to put a different perspective on the draft I thought this would be an interesting discussion. For example all I keep on hearing is that that we need to take Jake Long at 1 because there probably won't be any good Tackles when we pick again so what about if we choose Chris Long #1 and trade up to around 20 in the first round. Would we be able to get a quality tackle then? Would getting Chris Long/Venon Gholston or even Matt Ryan (I don't expect that) and say a tackle like Gosder Cherilus or possibly Chris Williams be worth moving back up in the first. This is more of a what if .
Well if this thread is to be a bit offbeat, consider this: We have 2 1's, (1,32) we also have the equivalent of 2 #2's (59,64) our first pick in the third round is basically a late 2nd round pick, as there is no "Wall" in talent available, some "Should have been" #2's will slip to #64. And I do think we could pick up a RT much easier and cheaper, and leave Vern Carey at LT, and use the #1 on a Gholston or Dorsey...
I think if someone they really like a lot (and I can't think of anyone) they may want to move up to grab them (for instance, if they take Chris Long and Otah or Clady are still available in the 20's) but that likely won't happen. My guess is that they'd rather have the additional picks than lose them for one player where they may get 2...We simply have too many holes to fill to lose out on the picks that it would take to move up...
This is a tough one. Do you stockpile picks and try to rebuild your team or do you try to move up to get the best possible players? On the one hand we have so many holes to fill that it doesn't make sense to trade back up, especially when there is a chance that the player you trade up for won't pan out (The Browns moving up for Brady Quinn comes to mind). Then again, if we could trade JT for a 2nd rounder and then package that pick with the #32 to move up for a guy like Branden Albert, you have to seriously consider it. I think I would do it if we could move JT and guarantee ourselves Albert. Yeah, I would do it.
