We had problems due to poor decisions made by our FO.........not upgrading ILB and trying to use two SS's in the back field.

We fix that and the addition of Nolan and we're a much better D....

but our two starting OLBs on the 26th ranked defense are not on the team anymore. Are we shooting for 32nd ranked? Meanwhile everyone returns to a 15th ranked offense other than Smiley. Just dont see how WR is still a priority. It would seem all the moves of the FO in the offseason indicate that defense HAS to be the focus

Doesn't make them right.........same guys that thought Pat Whte was a good choice at #44 and Gibril Wilson was a good idea at FS.

And how WR could not be a priority given the group had SIX touchdowns amongst them, would truly be a mystery worthy of a place in Ripley's...

Tell them to quit worrying about smoke screens and spring training baseball games and re-sign JT. There's half your problem right there....then pick up an OLB in round 2, in what is a deep OLB draft. Not like those first round OLB's don't all have question marks anyway...

thats cool. i can respect disagreeing with the FO moves. I did the same with Matt Ryan a couple of years ago but in the end it worked out (still cant believe Henne was aavilable in the 2nd rd ) The good thing about this draft is whoever they draft should help us. The prospects available all seem guaranteed of upgrading whatever position we draft.

Dont give up JS. I still think Dez has a 20% chance of being drafted. Long odds for sure but possible

I'm not so sure, it's not like those OLB/DE conversion projects are such a slam dunk.....

I could easily see us ending up Kindle and Lafell in rounds 1 and 2..... and boy isn't that exciting

ive been preaching defensive upgrade and that just drives you nuts LOL
well ill say it again that the offense didnt cost us nearly as much as the defense did last season and they will be fixing that first. everyone wants to score points but you have to be able to stop someone and speaking of getting old stop referencing the saints. you really think dez comes in and turns our offense into theirs. that is just ridiculous.

JT isn't "my man" he's a long time Fin that played his *** off last year out of position. It's just that you can't see that, given you're lack of knowledge of the game.

And you hardly get under my skin.....you're not smart enough to actually annoy me

But you DO need a defense that DOESN'T allow 390 points:yes:

Can you NOT SEE THAT this defense allowed more points than 38 other Dolphin teams in the last 40 years

ONLY 1986 WITH 405 POINTS ALLOWED
AND 2007 WITH 437 POINTS ALLOWED WERE WORSE DEFENSES IN POINTS ALLOWED

    3RD WORSE DEFENSE IN 40 YEARS:cry:

Agreed.....and we're half way to fixing that problem. Do you expect to fix everything on defense in one off season?

What you leave out is that with upgrades at WR and TE, this would be the most high powered offense in 25 years..

    You defense guys are greedy.....jeez

If you mean in the NFL, you're waaay ahead of yourself there. Henne isn't nearly good enough to lead "the most high powered offense in 25 years"

If you mean in Miami, I'd still have to say you're wrong. Maybe in 10-15 years.

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum, but this thread prompted me to join and say that this guy is absolutely, 100% right.

Sure, it wouldn't hurt to add another playmaker, but the problems on offense, IMO, were due more to bad playcalling and an inability to fully utilize the multi-skillset players they already have. Henning installed the wildcat into this team 2 seasons ago, and while it helped them overachieve in '08, they regressed a bit last year and got way too predictable with the playcalling.

They should try tampering with a few more gadget plays like they did in the game against the Texans in '08 (the wildcat, Pennington flea flicker) Ginn is a capable passer (he threw a deep touchdown on a WR reverse when he was at OSU), White could definately run a few plays at wideout when they're running the wildcat to keep the defense guessing, and they're one of the best blocking teams in the league. They have the pieces to be a very deceptive offense if they just switch it up a little. They have yet to fully incorporate the pass game into the wildcat, and it still has room to evolve.

As for the people saying Brees is the only reason the Saints won the superbowl, they clearly haven't watched the last 2 seasons. They didn't go from 8-8 to 13-3 because Brees, all the sudden, became a great QB (The year before, he almost broke Marino's yardage record in a season.) You're ignoring the fact that the Saints really revamped their secondary and changed defensive philosophies under Gregg Williams. They basically had 4 new starters in their secondary when you consider Porter only played 5 games his rookie year, they acquired Greer and Sharper in the off-season, and drafted Jenkins last year.

You're also selling the Saints defense short and giving a little too much credit to the offense if you don't realize that part of the reason they weren't statistically great is because the opponent's passing numbers were often inflated due to playing from behind the whole game. The season before that, Brees had more yardage than this season because he was in so many more shootouts where he HAD to carry the team in order to have a chance. Don't forget that the Saints scored the most points in the NFL on offense AND defense this year. You take away Sharper, Porter and Greer, and without Gregg Williams, the Saints aren't getting to the superbowl, let alone the playoffs.

The point i'm making in all of this is, the Dolphins have way too many holes on defense to address right now, and this is a good draft to do it in. If everyone is agreeing that this is a passing league right now, don't you think you should be worrying about getting a safety, some nickle corners and linebackers who can drop into coverage before you should worry about getting a WR who probably won't make a big splash until his 2nd or 3rd season (which is usually the case with receivers)?......

I keep hearing stuff like this, and Ill buy Earl Thomas in the first. We brought in our Vilma in Dansby, we brought in our Porter and Greer in Smith/Davis. Add Earl Thomas (or Eric Berry if we strike the jackpot) and thats fine.

But Dez Bryant>>>>>any OLB/DT/DE prospect in this draft.

Its been said before, you need to do 2 things really well in this league, pass the ball and defend the pass. We have been building our Pass Defense, now lets add some playmakers to the passing game.

This offensive corps was built for Penny, not Henne, and its time to change that or we are wasting our most valuable asset.

10 years ago was the start of the Fiedler debacle and 15 years ago Marino was on one leg.

I was referring back to the Marks brothers days when we were lighting it up. Only then, we didn't have a running game to compliment it, like we do now.

And who knows good Henne is or can be until he gets some better targets.......why don't we find out?

Thanks for the reply back. Much appreciated.

I hear what you're saying about the offense being built for Pennington. I'm of the opinion that you always draft the best available player of your immediate needs in the draft. If Dez falls to us, I'm not against taking him. I just don't think it would be the end of the world if he doesn't drop to us. We could just as easily find a sleeper at wideout in one of the middle rounds and be in just as good of shape (or better, considering you'd be paying him much less than you would a #12 pick) I feel like a lot of people think Dez is what will make or break this draft when there are far too many other needs to be addressed.

Vontae, Sean, Karlos and Cameron are a great foundation for the D, but outside of them and maybe the DE's, everyone else is average-to-below average. We don't have enough depth to withstand another injury plagued season. Middle linebacker needs to be adressed (that is, if they move Karlos to SOLB. Crowder is very underwhelming), and it wouldn't hurt to look for a DT because Ferguson is suspended and stays hurt. Depth at outside linebacker and CB are the most important things though. We need guys who can generate enough of a pass rush to give our DB's a chance to make plays on the ball.

I think a defensive draft will go a longer way towards making Miami a contender than 1 receiver can. Receivers are probably the 2nd hardest position to draft and develop after quarterback, so there's more risk in taking one in the top 10-15 than a linebacker or safety. As for other playmaking options on offense, it looks like Jermaine Gresham's stock is falling right now. He's not a great blocker (not really important. We have plenty of blockers to mask that), but he'd be just the big, athletic target Henne needs in this offense. He might go for a bargain if you can overlook the injury issues.

maybe even Bess at #2, He's my favorite WR we got haha

Kool, I'm glad to hear that as Dez is a top 10 this year. At 12 he would be a steal. So with that in mind how does he help the team?
