Some snippets, per NFLN's Lindsay Soto and former Texans GM Charlie Casserly, both in attendance: - LT Charles Brown had a hamstring injury, did not do positon drills. 5.25 40 (De Soto) - Damian Williams, did not run. Looked better in position drills live, more sudden-looking in person than on tape. 11.42 long shuttle. Good hands. (per Casserly) - Joe McKnight said he re-aggravated a toe injury, struggled in cone and shuttle, but did well in positional drills (De Soto) - I didn't sense McKnight had a foot problem, I sensed a guy who didn;t know how to run the shuttles. (Casserly) [sounds like lack of preparation to me, if Charlie is right] He adds that McKnight was good in drills, catching the ball well, transitioning well in receiving drills. 11.81 long shuttle, 7.15 three-cone. Below average times. (Casserly) - Everson Griffen did very well in cone and shuttle, but had very good work at Defensive End and Linebacker. He told Lindsay Soto that he is willing and able to play LB in a 3-4. (De Soto) - Griffen's times: 4.62 40-yard dash, 7.20 three-cone, a little bit of an awkward bend in his shuttles (waist bender), but great in the pass rush drills (per Casserly) - Taylor Mays 11.56 long shuttle, 7.01 three-cone (Casserly) - Tight End Anthony McCoy did not run or do shuttles, but caught ball well, changed direction on routes well, separated well, but plays a bit upright, second round talent (Casserly) Well, that's it. I don;t really like ANY of the USC guys very much this year. Boy, Carroll left at the right time. Those talent laden teams are waning.
I like Damian Williams i think he is going to be a very good WR in the NFL he isnt the fastest guy but he has some of the best hand in this years draft and runs great routes i think he is a little underrated because he is a USC WR and they havnt panned out in the past
Yeah, I go back and forth on him. I think he's a bigger risk transitioning to a 3-4 OLB than just going to a 4-3 DE spot. Don;t like how he looks. Can;t explain it.
i thought we have been tied to Griffen ... albeit, i seriously doubt we'd take him in rd 1 .... or 2 for that matter.
That's interesting. I'm not sure what round McCoy would be a good value in, though. Casserly said 3rd. Seems high to me. 4th would feel right-er.
I would too, but I'm not sure the front office would tab him with the 12th pick. Now, if that Miles Austin for the swap of the first and third rounders comes into play, I'd pull the trigger on Griffen if he's there later in the first at what would be Dallas' pick. If Dez Bryant is gone at 12, I'd think Griffen almost has to come into the conversation though.
Feel he's a boom bust type of guy. Not convinced on him. Quotes like this explain it better: Let's add to that that I feel he's better suited, in my opinion, to being a 4-3 end than a 3-4 OLB.
