"I'm not the type of person that will try to confront somebody but now I feel like it's gone too far. It's gone too far," Bryant said to the Associated Press. "I haven't did anything wrong to nobody."

"Whoever passes up on me, it's over with. I feel like I'm going through the same situation Randy Moss did," he added. "That man had issues and teams were passing up on him, and when he got on that field, he killed them. He murdered them. Look at him today: One of the best players in the NFL."

"What do this got to do with me playing football? Even if I did forget my cleats, what do that have to do with me playing football? I don't think it has anything to do with me playing football."

    My exact thoughts

That's good enough for me. I really think Bryant will play with a hunger, in his first few years at least, to prove to people that he is better than they think. He has been dumped on a lot considering that he really hasn't done anything wrong. So he talks differently then most--that doesn't mean his suspension was for something like punching another guy in the face like Blount. He's not out getting arrested like players (who are adored, btw) who are actually in the NFL.

I wish a reporter would have told him that because I'd be interested in his response.

He certainly doesn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box, but if he's there at pick #12, I have a very, very, very, difficult time passing on him and picking someone else; unless that someone else is Eric Berry (which isn't likely).

Look at some of the best receivers in the league right now..
Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Sidney Rice, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith (NYG) etc...

These guys didn't have 40 times that made Mike Mayock's eyes fall out of his head either, but they are all incredible at playing the position of NFL wide receiver..

Look at the "fastest" receivers in the league...this list has several disappointing players...
Ginn, Heyward-Bey, Devin Thomas, DeSean Jackson..

DeSean Jackson is the only guy that is a pure "speed" guy I'd want on my team.

Granted...I picked names that would help my argument, but you see where I'm going with this :wink2:

    Fitz: 4.63 @ 2004 combine
Johnson: 4.43 (nice speed...but not OMG he'll run by EVERYONE)
    Wayne: 4.48
    Steve Smith: 4.44

So yes, these are all nice time, but not make you drop everything and take notice times like Bey, Ginn, etc...

My point is, there's a lot more to a WR than just a 40 time, and you can have marginal speed and still be pretty dominant...ask Jerry Rice, or Chris Carter, or Steve Largent, or Art Monk...

Fitzgerald ran a 4.48 at his Pro Day IIRC.

I agree that there's more to a wide receiver than a 40 time, I was merely pointing out the players and their times.

I'm not saying he was, in fact I said I'd want him on my team. My point was that guys that are usually just all speed don't pan out. I think he's probably one of the exceptions...

If they think he's good enough draft him, I don't personally have a problem with it. But I always respect people a little less when they can't make the effort to speak English at higher than a kindergarten level in an interview that will be be printed all over.

I thought it might have been a typo but he did it twice so I doubt it.

I grew up in the country, I've definitely used my fair share of slang in my life, but I hate it when athletes speak like they dropped out of 2nd grade in an interview. Joey Porter did the same crap all the time. I just don't understand how grown men who went to college would talk that way in an interview.

The problem I have is Mayock said " he looked like he was giving up on a lot of drills" I am starting to have second thoughts on this guy. It is so important to this team to be right on this #12 pick. We can't afford to blow this pick.

I know some younger people might talk that way... like my six year old daughter. I correct her and tell her that learning proper english will be important in her adult life. I guess I was lying. It's sad to see this from grown men who are supposedly educated.

I actually have second thoughts on Mike Mayock......the guy looked ready to do a happy dance when we selected Pat White. Who appeared to be one of his favorite players in the draft.

Hmmm. Not a single hint of being childish, or a diva, or even uneducated there, now is there. Sounds like a young man who has his head exactly squared away and his attitude just right for someone who is about to be given millions of dollars to play a game after improving himself and learning about life at one of the great institutes of higher education a whole lot of people would give a lot of money to attend - if they had it. Fine, upstanding young man.

I get what you're saying......it just seems as tho ppl around his age, couldn't care less about proper grammar, sounding intelligent or not murdering the English language. In fact, it's as tho they seem hell bent on re-creating the language to fit their hip, MTV philosophy of life.

He's so dumb that he can't even realize that by saying this he is infact hurting himself more and creating a situation where more teams may actually pass on him. Hey at this rate he'll still be available in the second round.

Or maybe he just comes from a lower socioeconomic status than most of us and that is the reason his speech sounds so much worse. Growing up he didn't have anyone correcting him. You can be intelligent and still speak poorly.

Sorry, I don't buy it. What he didn't go to school? We know he went to college. He's had plenty of time to hear what english is supposed to sound like. I grew up in a poor family in a piece of crap trailer, my parents used food stamps plenty of times to get by, yet amazingly enough I somehow learned how to conjugate simple verbs in the English language. My dad is a high school dropout. He's the last person you'd ever see correcting somebody's grammar. Talk however you want around family and friends, but you want somebody to respect you in the real world then maybe you should try speaking to the national media like you've read a book or took an english class once or twice in your life. Being poor is a copout. You don't have to go to Harvard to learn to articulate better than that.

If we pass on him I can't wait to hear what you guys have to say after he torches us in the first meet.

But if anyone is questioning his character based on what's said in THAT article... what a shame. Parcells/Ireland/Sparano has you guys hypnotized.

Personally if he has the potential people are saying he does I want the Dolphins to take him. As much as I've been railing against adults who speak like kindergarteners in this thread, I do want the Dolphins to win and a big time receiver would certainly help their cause. Assuming he works hard and takes his job seriously. Do that and you can talk any way you want when it comes to football.

I tend to agree that statement isn't a big enough sample to completely judge him as a person. I think a lot of people appreciate a little more humility in a man though. If you want to declare yourself the next Randy Moss you better back it up or shut your mouth.

When I played football, I couldn't imagin being at an away game trying to explain to my coach and teammates that I forgot my cleats. I would still be running laps, doing up n downs and bear crawls. Next year I would be doing wind sprints and 6 inch leglifts.
