I know you like the same CB I do, but Im not sure he wont be better as a zone cover guy. IMO you can plug Haden in on either scheme....
he's better than the one you're thinking of. More consistent and better all around game. Your guy may be 1/10th of a second faster but he gets baited too easily
i actually like this class of CBs. Theere are about six or seven that I think have a shot at a nice career
On Hughes for OLB for the Dolphins at 12, I'm just not impressed with him. I come back and compare everyone to Graham. In Graham you see it, his instincts, his pad level, his anchor, if the opposition actually gets a good block on him, he doesn't stay blocked for too long. I haven't seen that with any other 34 OLB. I see Hughes getting washed out too much for my liking. Watched that TCU bowl game, didn't see enough of him... Washington on the other hand... I suppose some of that had to do with the opponent and the style of offense they played, get the ball out in a hurry so to speak. Of course, at 12, this could all be moot... they probably aren't even taking a OLB there.
If you're basing Hughes talent off of one game, that's a mistake IMO. I've seen him set the edge well and he's got the strength to develop into a pretty good run defender IMO.
IMO you have to sit down and watch a trio of his games to see his talent. Personally, I've seen about five and I've came away impressed. He improved from last year.
Height wise, no but quickness, explosiveness, athleticism, yes. He's got a nice bulrush too. Once the man learns to use his hands better, he's going to be good IMO. You can see him playing with a running backs mindset at times. He's still a bit raw IMO.
is also more fluid in his change of direction. A better WOLB prospect than Graham though I think Graham is a better SOLB prospect
There's about 3 CB's I like in this class and I dont see one true shut down guy capable of establishing themselves as an elite player who can really handle opposing teams one's. Haden has the ability as does the guy me and alen like but they both have some flaws. I think if he plays a man cover scheme he will not be able to handle ones well because Im not sure how well he will be able to press at this level. He runs well but he isnt physical or strong enough or at least he hasnt shown that he is enough for my liking. When I saw Vontae the last few years at Illinois I knew there was no doubt he could do it at this level in a straight up man cover scheme. Im not quite as sold on our player but hes elevated imo because of a very average class of guys who can start but arent best served as the "top cover guy" on their teams. Funny thats kinda how I feel about Graham. He will be a good pro player but I feel hes basically a better version of Matt Roth. Similar build, short arms...should be a decent NFL player but i feel as a 3-4 OLB he probably tops out in the 7-9 sack range. I think Hughes could easily be a 11-14 sack guy for the next 6-8 years. Remember that both players would be transitioning to a new position as 3-4 OLB's so you also have to consider how well you feel their bodies and their abilities translate to playing in space. I feel Graham is a safe way to go, but I feel Hughes is the better player. I would neither be upset or enamored with Graham.
I think he's shown flashes of it. I've seen him bump and run well. I've seen other times where he wasn't strong enough too but I think he's good. You don't play in that man's scheme and not be able to bump and run IMO. EDIT: Whoops!
Goodnight all...ill be back bright and early for my pick tomorrow assuming Kenny makes his...by the way anyone who knows me knows bright and early for me means around 10
i see two that have elite potential, one that will be solid and about three or four that will either be good cover 2 guys or nickel backs. I wont get into the other guys but Haden can shut down taller receivers. He's got the physicality to play with them. Where he has some problems is with the smaller shiftier types. The other guy is just the opposite, better with the smaller shiftier types but has problems with the taller receivers
well i'm also off to bed. gonna watch arizona vs oregon. just have two tapes left before i start writing up my final grades. that game and the alabama vs florida game
i was hoping everybody in front of me would be active and make their picks tonight, so i could come up and make a blacked out mistake. woohoo get to make a sober decision tomorrow!
Please explain to me the so many ways that they are similar ? JPP is 3 inches taller, his arms are much longer, hes got a lot more instinct, and plays with a lot more leverage than Gholston ever will In fact I would be willing to say that JPP will be more productive in 1 season than what gholston ever will
