Anybody else watch it? Junior and Jon looked like the future. I am disappointed by them not showing the Clay Guida fight form the undercard. Sub of the night, and he always entertains.
It was solid all around. I remember telling everybody at the bar that Junior will beat that big baboon, but everybody laughed. $50 later, I was laughing.
lets see him fight the best of his weight class first. (shogun and machida) those fights would be epic
forgot Guida was on that card. they should've aired that fight for sure. guess they wanted to show the GSP interview, and the Carwin interview to hype the ppv instead. plus the injury stoppages ate up some of the two hours they had. Junior and Jon both impressed though.
I didn't buy into the hype, but now I'm sold. Jones is for real. I don't think he's ready for Rampage, Shogun, Machida, or even Evans quite yet, though. I see a fight between Thiago Silva and Jon Jones in the near future...
I've been on record about Jon Jones for awhile here. That dude is the future. And he keeps improving. That said, I don't think he's ready for the BIG boys yet. To me he showed a gaping hole in his game Sunday night. He looked really green on the ground, staying really low in the guard and leaving his arms out there like that. Vera was setting him up. Fortunately Jones has 84.5 inch arms and unleashed that elbow before anything dangerous happened. But the point is, keep increasing the level of competition, but not at too drastic. Dana even said yesterday that a title shot is at least a year away. And I'm glad to hear it. The worst thing they could do is rush this kid along. He's got the makings of a superstar, just he needs more time in the oven. Not only does it better serve Jones' interests, but the UFC's as well. Better to let him ascend and legitimately hype a mega-fight than to throw him in there with medium fanfare and watch he and the budding hype get beaten down.
I think that'd be perfect. Somebody threw out the loser of Rashad-Rampage. That's a little too big IMO. I'd rather see Jones take a slightly lesser fighter first. Silva would be a serious test and the biggest puncher to date. OT: I was telling a friend the other night I'd really like to see Rampage and Thiago Silva, though Rampage is probably is looking at a title shot if beats Rashad.
Thiago Silva came very close to beating Rashad. I really dont think Silva is very far from Evans and Rampage when it comes to competition. I think it would be a great fight ( Jones v.s. Silva ) and the test would be if Jones could get him down on the mat
