Yes nobody is arguing that a pro bowl WR doesn't help. But what separates a pro bowl WR from very good WRs? You list Hines Ward, Marques Colston, who barely crack 1000 yards in their respective super bowl seasons. Ted Ginn sucks but he gets 850 yards from the LOS last year. That's a difference of what, 10 yards a game?

Reggie Wayne is sick no doubt, and without the stellar defense him and Manning would be ringless. He did have a great superbowl though (but they were putrid leading up to it).

And I don't think anyone is attributing the giant's superbowl win to Plaxico. He was on the roster, he had a great game against TB (really great) but that defense is the story, everyone knows it.

And there are other formulas for success. A very good defense with good enough WRs are better than a solid defense and an elite WR IMO. Every spot you can improve, is an improvement of the team, so of course, a very good WR can help. But I don't feel it is so crucial as to sacrifice other spots. If you look at our team last year, it looked like our passing game started to come together a bit during the NE game, even against Pitt at the end before Henne got hurt. Yeah he threw some picks but he was gaining some very good yardage. A WR corps doesn't just gel instantly with a new QB. But at the end Henne was averaging 300 yards a game or so. That's not terrible.

Keep in mind after saying all of this, WR is my favorite position and I'd buy a Dez bryant jersey if we get him.

That was another "In defense of TG" article.

We can argue if it's TG's fault or not. But the bottom line is it doesn't matter who's fault it is. WR is a need for this team. It's pretty much universally agreed upon. That directly says TG isn't getting it done currently. End of story. If he gets it done some day in the future awesome, but we have to deal with the situation as is.

Marques Colston is a beast on a team with sick receivers. Playing for us he'd be high 1000's. His stats aren't about skill. Hines Ward is a great receiver but he's played on a run first team. When he was capable of big numbers the Steelers ran all the time. Ted Ginn had 454 yards last year. What are you talking about? His best year was 790 yards. I'm not sure but I think you're trying to say Reggie Wayne isn't a top 5-10 receiver. The argument was never that only a great WR wins rings. The argument was that of all the teams that win rings with great D and no O, they end up sucking afterward. Keeping an elite D is hard as hell with FA. The Saints didn't have an elite D and they killed the Colts. They had an opportunistic D with great schemes. The Vikings are an elite D but if the Saints hadn't been able to strip AP all those times, the Saints would have been trampled. You're talking Very Good D with Good WR's we were talking Elite D with crap WR's. Get in the game dude.

I was not talking about Hartline and Ward. Someone made a reference with Ward and Bess.

I didn't like the comparison saying "If 3 of those kickoffs were not penalized he'd have had a good year." Those Penalties are part of the reason he took it to the house. Had there not been holds, or blocks in the back, he'd be gone.

As for being a deep threat... showing up 6 times in the last 2 years is not all that special.

However, I do think that he deserves another year. He's clearly struggled, and giving him an offseason full with Henne behind the snap is important.

Get this boy a #1 in the draft, or the offseason and I think a LOT of people are going to forget about his bad years.

Bull****. Go re-watch them, only one of them was even worthy of being called.

I love that Brian Hartline is now this amazing receiver -

    Hartline - 31 rec, 506 yds, 3 TDs

    Ginn's rookie year - 34 rec, 420 yds, 2 TDs

Ginn's rookie year was also the year we were 1-15 with Cleo Lemon and John Beck at QB.

Yet Ginn is a bust and Hartline is a great WR.

Let's be realistic, draft position doesn't make you a better player. Hartline being a 4th round pick doesn't make him a playmaker for having the same stats as Ginn.

You're probably right on the magnitude of them, I don't remember those plays specifically, but do remember a number of blown calls in our games.

If they were bogus calls, I take back what I said. But I still don't like using that as a measuring stick for someone. The woulda coulda shoulda game does not make those yards or points stick.

Nothing against you at all but if the article included the bad along with the good, it would have more merit. As it is, it looks more like a political prom ad. ;)
But if it showed clips of him dropping balls, running out of bound, etc, it shows a more even light on the situation. i did like the one about "smoking Revis for a TD" tho. Too bad we can't see what happened to get that separation. revis may have slipped for all we know, but it is the end result that counts. As far as making excuses for the penalties, Alot of times it is because of the penalty that the play was "successful". But, with all that said, I am for giving Ginn at least another year to work with Henne and hopefully with a legit #1 WR across from him. I could imagine him playing opposite Andre Johnson, etc.

One big common misconception is that we thought he could catch the ball.
