we've been totally used, Clark told reporter as he was boarding the plane back to Pitt. " “My plan was to retire a Steeler,” Clark told Anderson. “It took a little longer than I wanted it to to get this deal done." nice
EXACTLY! WE are missing; 1. Dominate WR 2. Pass catching TE 3. NT 4. OLB 5. FS And these are in no particular order! So now it is either step up an go after Atogwe and A. Bryant or prepare for a year of developing draft picks.
All you can do is your best. What if Pittsburgh doesn't up their offer? What if Pittsburgh moves on? You never know, so you try. Payback's known to be a ***** though. And I hope his agent doesn't plan on negotiating with Miami again. I don't fault Ireland for trying to improve this team.
This is way disappointing. If we low-balled him, then I can't blame him. However if his intent all along was to string us along, validate his worth to the Steelers through our offer, waste our time, divert us from pursuing one of the other scarce FS FAs, then I, errrr wish him a lot of games played at high altitudes -if you know what I mean.
Even if he does suck it is a disturbing trend that every year we spend days courting a free agent and have him stole from our facility! While we have been focused on Clark while he had no intention of signing with us A. Bryant is up in Cincy and we are left with another hole. Frankly it is embarrassing as a Dolphin fan we get used annually by prospective free agents!
I see a lot of anger in this thread, and possibly rightfully so. But the old saying goes, "Don't hate the player, hate the game." You can't wish ill will or failure or injury on a man because he used the system in place to get the most out of it for himself and his family. I call that business savvy. That's how FA works. You know that on any given Sunday, on any given play, you can hurt yourself and end your career in a hundred different ways. You gotta grab all the cash you can in the short window of your life you get to be in the NFL. It just sucks that it happened to us. But stay classy Fin Fans. It's not like he's a god damn jet.
From Edgar Thompson's feed: I can understand not wanting to uproot and loving where you're at. Maybe he did give Pitt a hometown discount. And maybe he would have signed with Miami had Pitt not upped their offer. But his words last night were that Miami was the place he wanted to be.
I'm pissed it is becoming a disturbing trend that agents use the Dolphins to get what they want from other teams! Parcell's, Ireland and our new Capologist or whatever her title is now that there is no cap our suppose to be the best in the business and every year they get used! It is embarrassing!
I am not mad at Clark! I am mad at Parcell's, Ireland and Dawn Aponte. There is a disturbing trend that Miami has become the place free agents shop to up their value. The trifecta is doing something wrong, because they are getting abused yearly! Not to mention we are spending days with these players and neglecting other needs!
I guess it's a matter of asking yourself which is more embarassing, being the team that flirts with the overpriced, overhyped FA and doesn't get him or the being the team that gives him more money than you were willing to and not get the production out of him. Sometimes letting a FA walk out the door isn't the worst option.
Well..think of it this way, I guess. How bad would it suck to play an away game in Denver for the playoffs, and our starting FS cant play
One way or another we need to sign or draft starters at FS, NT, and SOLB. And that's assuming we're prepared to platoon the WOLB position, preferably with a re-signed Jason Taylor. I'm ready to go to war with the TE and WR corps we have right now if it comes down to it, our offense overall was middle of the pack last year, so you have to assume an improving Henne and the return of Ronnie Brown and Patrick Cobbs will put up enough points to win games as long as the defense takes care of business.
No worries. It happens every year to any team that looks into FA signings. Except for possibly the Redskins, who seem to always be bound and determined to outbid any and everybody. But look where it's gotten them.
What do you propose they do? Hold a gun to their heads? How quickly we forget that Dansby didn't leave the building. That JT continues to stay put despite the year-long deep freeze between he and Parcells. That Chad Pennington is coming back to be a #3 and will allow a trade. Calvin Pace said he chose the Jets because, in a matter of words, they made him feel special and he wouldn't have to lead. Later in the year, Carl Banks called him a front-runner. Nobody likes losing. But we need to stop acting like Bill Parcells of all people doesn't know what he's doing.
Don't forget GERBIL, Green, McCown, and Wilford we have our share of the wrong FA too! The quote below is from Jeff Darlingtons twitter I've spoken to both sides involved. Clark's agent, Joel Turner, insists his client just wanted to go home to his family. Details to follow. Agent Joel Turner: "People change their minds. Plenty of people have walked away from the alter. By no means did he use the Dolphins. " Why am I getting the feeling we put him through a goat rope like we did Brees! The guy gets off the plane saying he wants to be a Dolphin after a long day and a physical he tells his agent to call the Steeler's!
Well I think we need to speed up the process, I follow free agency a lot and I don't see other teams taking 2 days. Or for once sweep in at the last minute with a better offer. I suggest you read Jeff Darlington's twitter something happened with Clark today to turn him off and change his mind!
I posted those quotes in a post above, thanks. We have no idea what the agenda is, what they're being told by other agents, schedules, etc. Again, it's presumptuous to say that the Dolphins did something wrong. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. But Clark's agent said the Dolphins offered more money than Pitt.
Wow. All this anger over Ryan Clark? Really? I. for one, am kinda happy. I wasn't all that enamoured with signing Clar kin the first place. Why we aren't going after Atogwe, I'll never understand.
I didn't see that Miami offered more then Pit, although knowing how cheap the Steelers are it would surprise me. I think something happened today to turn Clark off. Maybe he didn't like us who knows. I just don't like this happening every year.
Atogwe is a matter of money, I agree we need to target him. But that will just end up in the Rams matching our offer. Now we need to get aggressive and fill another hole, I hope we attempt to snipe A. Bryant from Cincy! Use them how we were used!
Posted by Mike Dunbar on March 8, 2010 7:05 PM ET On the same day that the Steelers signed receiver Randle El and safety Will Allen, they've brought back two guys who by all appearances would never again wear the black helmet with the logo on only one side. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that receiver Antwaan Randle El has agreed to a three-year contract with the Steelers; Aaron Wilson has posted on Twitter than Ryan Clark has agreed to terms with the Steelers after the door on his career there presumably had been closed. Clark told Josina Anderson of FOX 31 in Denver that it's a four-year deal. "My plan was to retire a Steeler" he said. "It took a little longer than I wanted to get this deal done." The developments are bad news for receiver Limas Sweed and free-agent safety Tyrone Carter. Sweed undoubtedly will be dumped; Carter undoubtedly won't be re-signed. Clark recently visited Miami, and he was with the Dolphins earlier today, negotiating possible terms. This is my first ever post. Hope it's informative. Profootballtalk usually is pretty right on. I hope we go after Atogwe now. i'd rather spend the first pick on the Nose tackle form Tennessee! I can't post the links because I don't have enough posts. Sorry!
Would have been a bargain. And there you have it. We've seen a lot of that in our own backyard lately. So we shouldn't be surprised when somebody else has similar reasons.
I'm in no way trying to say that the Fins are perfect in Free Agency. Every team has their hits and their misses. But you kinda just proved my point for me. Giving this big money to Wilford and Gerbil really set us back. In that situation, had we let this generic to decent player walk, instead of giving him a big contract, we would be in a better spot today. It's all risk/reward with free agency and that's why I try to not get too excited about a player till he's a) signed with the Fins and b) actually suited up and played a decent game.
And more http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2010/03/ryan-clark-spurns-miami-dolphins.html His heart (and family) are in Pittsburgh.
Let's just say I'm not one to feel sorry for Bill Parcells. It's a cold process. Some of you are just ridiculously over-emotional, especially about an above average 30 year old FS. Dansby I can understand, but Ryan Clark? Oh well, woopedeedoo.
Yeah hope that is true, if he didn't want to be here I don't want him here! Everything about football is a risk. A guy can go from a AllPro level to injured and done in 1 yr. Free Agency is a risk and the draft is a even bigger risk. We just need to fill our needs and if we didn't land a FS then lets attack another need. Right now we have 8 draft picks and realistically we might hit on 3 of them that is just a statistical reality.
havent you heard the whole fanbase is on the edge of the cliff because we werent able to sign clark the future of the miami dolphins as an organization is in jeopardy
Well, maybe 99% of the fanbase..I for one am quite happy that he was not signed, did not like him, did not like his game. Only if Jason Taylor is not resigned...
for most dolphin fans or at least the player fan faithful that will be the day the world ends. It will be a mass exodus to follow jt straight to hollywood.
