The thread title is inaccurate; sorry but..
Actually the article is just referencing an article by Don Banks where he was offering his opinion that the Lions should sign Thomas.
..."Free-agent running back Thomas Jones will sign with the Lions, but he should sign with the New England Patriots.

That was the prediction and opinion offered Wednesday by Don Banks of Sports Illustrated"
    ....

    From The Detroit News: http://www.detnews.com/article/2010...-with-Lions--SI-writer-predicts#ixzz0hYtbf8Dp
So it's not as if them signing Thomas is imminent.
And I agree with the citizen - there's a very slim (to none) chance only that Brown won't be a Dolphin this next season.

Out of the total RB options available for Miami to supplement their two veterans, I think Brian Westbrook may get a look. We need a true third down back as a change of pace.

Unless we're the 2008 Broncos I don't think all three will get injured.

the lions are doing a great job this off season if they complete there Oline they could have one of the top offenses in the NFL next season. then they could just draft defensive players. i think they will draft Okung and then go defense the rest of the draft

Why are the Lions giving tons of money to mediocre players?

How could they "complete" their OL when they haven't even really begun to build it? Gosder Cherilus isn't exactly lighting the world on fire up there.

Because most of the Lions' players are below the level of mediocre. So, signing mediocre players is an upgrade for them.

Because they were part of the GM bailout plan. They received extra money from the government and now they can afford it.

    Nice.

That'd be good news to me as I like that the fact that he won't be rejoining the Jets. Jones is still a good player (the NFL's 3rd leading rusher last year) and I had seen early on that the Jets were going to try and resign him.

If the lions have a solid draft they might actually have a legit shot to win 7-8 games next year.

It seems to me the Lions are just trying to build a solid team. They're method is similar to what Parcells and Ireland did their first year with us. Looking to sign and trade for solid if not spectacular vets to add talent and depth.
However, I wouldn't call Thomas Jones mediocre. The Jets had a tough decision to make in letting him go. With Washington and Greene on the roster, Jones was probably the odd man out based on him being the oldest among a talented group.
Overall I think they're going to end up pretty decent.

well okung would be a good start for LT and Cherilus would be ok for one more year at RT and they might have a chance to get Mike Iupati for LG that fills two big need on there Oline then they would need to find a Center, and RG for next season maybe they can sign Chester Pitts for a couple years at RG and then they can find a center late in the draft or stick with the one they have for next year and in next years draft they can get a RT, and a center.

If true, this is a nice move for them. They also picked up Corey Willliams IIRC, which is a very underrated move IMO.

That came out of no where. Great signing for the Chiefs. Jones and Charles are going to make a dynamic one-two punch.

He has been rumored to go to the Chiefs for a week, they need a back with Charles.

As long as he's not back with the JESTS.
Losing him is going to be a bigger blow than anybody is reporting IMO.

Shonn Greene could be really good but when a team gets rid of a 1400 yard back, that's a loss.
