Not sure I agree with you here brother. He played 8 seasons and averaged 3.5 Int's a season for an average of 22.4 yards per return with a long of 103 yards. The other stats that we like to look at weren't really kept back then. Just having him roam the center of the field forced most teams to limit the amount of passes they threw into the center of the field. When he hit someone you heard it in the stands. He also had very good speed and was able to close ground on receivers very quickly.

If we get that type of play out of our FS this year all of us will be ecstatic.

5.5 per year. Right on target with the estimate. Let's just if it's 3/16.5m or 4/22m.

I don't think that's how you go about it at all. Maybe entice the Chiefs to pick up the RFA tender on Fasano, trade Ginn to the Raiders for a third, and Camarillo to the Ravens for a fourth. If we get really lucky, the Chargers become so desperate for a go-to back that they pick up Ronnie's tender. That gives us two picks in each of the first four rounds and the talent pool is so deep in this draft the team automatically becomes a contender.

    Sign me up!

Like others have said, I'd rather have Atogwe but Clark is solid and can really bring some more swagger to the defense.

Just texted my brother who is a HUGE Steelers fan and asked him his opinion on Clark, he wouldn't answer the question, but he is definitely worried about him leaving Pittsburgh.

No, the worst free agent safety now is some guy named Gibril Wilson.

That's usually the most important sign is the consensus of a fan base indicates a player's
ability, especially a veteran's. I would say 95% of fans believe he's a good player that they would have liked to have back and these are Steeler fans they expect a championship roster not a half assed player.

The more I think about it the LESS I want this guy on the team.

"It's unclear if the Dolphins would be willing to give five years to Clark, especially after a health scare in 2007 that forced the removal of his spleen and gall bladder. But Clark, who must monitor a sickle-cell trait in his blood and cannot play at altitude, still chose to make his first free agent visit to South Florida."

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-dolphins-0308-20100307,0,6653583.story

I am sorry but we need to stay away from guys that have health issues like this as far as making them STARTERS and paying them big cash.

If we had a great starter and this kid would come in as a backup then fine, I'd be all for it. But as a starter, I say this is not good.

I am sure plenty of you will flame this but whatever...

We've made way to many mistakes in the past with guys that get injured/have histories and its held us back and bitten us in the arse.

I dont like this move and unfortunately we let our real target get signed away to the Giants because of too much cash or whatever and now it seems that we want to buy something just to buy it.

Like a dude that doesnt want to leave an auction without winning at least one item.

Sure the guy has played a lot of games but it always seems the moment they get off the plane to play for the MIAMI Dolphins those health issues suddenly become 10 fold and we start to wonder why the organization pulled the trigger in the first place.

If your worry is that Rolle got away, I'm happy he did. I don't think he's worth much at all. He can't play in Denver, that's about the only stadium that's that high.

His contract won't be overly expensive either. He'll provide above average run support, solid coverage while getting burnt at times like almost any other safety, and big hits as well as a good locker room presence. Worth 5.5m a year? Sure why not.

Often their ratings are not supported by the stats they post too. Looking at Clark's pct receptions in his coverage, the QB Rating for passes thrown into his coverage, YAC allowed, missed tackles, all areas where he is superior or far superior to Wilson, one wonders how they come up with their grades sometimes.

What do I want from a FS? First of all he has to be a reliable last line of defense, not missing tackles and keeping YAC to a minimum. Would Clark give us that? YES.
Next, I would want a guy that is solid in coverage. When you only allow about 35% of passes thrown your way to be caught, you are solid in coverage. There is no way to dispute it.

Clark allows few completions and when he does, the receivers aren't running until next week with the ball in their hands like we saw so often last year with our safeties.

I honestly think all here who want to question if this would be a good signing are just being too gun shy because of the way Wilson played. Clark is a different person and different player and it is shortsighted and unfair to base any negativity toward him on some foolish assumption he is just about the same player as Wilson.
I don't know how anyone could have watched the Steelers without being impressed by Clark. If you are not, perhaps a visit to the local eye doctor and gravitating more toward golf as your preferred sport to follow may be in order. :wink2:

Started and played in 29 of 32 games the past two seasons. The game he missed in '09 was the Denver game and he was a healthy scratch, other than his medical condition that makes it risky for him to play at high altitudes.

Cleany what's your thoughts on Brian Westbrook as a third-down back and PR for Miami? I'd love to see Ronnie get 15 carries, Ricky 12, and Westbrook five carries with plenty of Chad Checkdowns for ball control. In the games they played together Ricky averaged somewhere around 11 carries this year while Ronnie averaged 16-17. We probably could utilize Westbrook in his best role as a Kevin Faulk.

Nice analysis on PFF by the way I'm still puzzled sometimes by their analysis especially when it comes to positions outside the offensive line and defensive line. I don't even look at the skill position rankings, it's mostly their front seven, FB, TE blocking, and offensive line that are useful.

as much as i wanted to draft Thomas at 12, if we can get Clark as an upgrade to the D before the draft even begins, i'm all for it. this changes our draft board also. the more holes we fill now, the more we can go for best player available in the Draft :up:although i am not sold on spiller, and personally would rather have Matthews.

    That's a remarkable price. It's mostly guaranteed but still if it's 3 years, 12m that's a great deal if it's 4, 16m then that's a very good deal.

    - Clark
    - Antonio Bryant
    - Benjamin Watson
    - Jamal Williams

Sign those four and we'll have leeway in the draft.

The 103 yarder was off Kelly up in Buffalo. Man, that was an exciting play. We beat the Bills badly that day.

If there had not been major health concerns due to mainly number of concussions, he'd still be an Eagle. I would be very hesitant. IF we do sign Clark, and given the depth at LB into round 2, I could see us going for Spiller in the 1st. He could do the same role you envision Westbrook for and in a year could be our starter. For those who believe Spiller cannot run inside, the fact that the defenses have to very much respect his perimeter speed, should make a lot of inside cut back runs come wide open. The Titans run Johnson inside and to me, Spiller is a similar player.

Didn't say he misses alot of games. Sorry if it came out that way. Just saying he plays hurt alot due to his style of play. At leat, that's what a steelers fan said.

I don't know much about sickle-cell, but if we played in Denver in the AFCCG, COULD he play? Or is it just too risky?

I wouldn't worry too much about that scenario....

Clean I just don't know if they're willing to spend so highly on a RB. Parcells is famous for hating to spend high picks on a RB. I could see them selecting Best in the second round or McKnight in the 4th/Montario Hardesty in the 3rd. Either way I think we'll see Ricky age this year and Ronnie will need another RB.

If Best is around at 43 don't be surprised. Handing off to him in the Wildcat is frightening.

The more and more I look at it there are some underrated running backs in this draft. Color me surprised if we don't pick one right around the third or fourth round. In a run heavy offense we can't have nearly 33 year old Ricky Williams and the limited Lex Hilliard as the main weapons again.

    Parcells didn't have a problem trading a 1st and a 3rd for a young 24-year old Curtis Martin....

I like Best too and could not complain with him at 43, depending on who else is on board. I think we are more likely to ever take a RB in the 1st under this regime than we are a WR. He did have some say so in the Giants taking Rodney Hampton in 1990. Julius Jones was his first overall pick one year in Dallas, although at pick 43 round 2.

That is absolutely true. It's rare finding RBs that have high physical capability late in the draft. Usually they lack a second gear. There's a range that you draft them and I expect Miami to get one. It's just such a demanding position that you need a guy.

Out of all the available RBs this year one will slip into a nice third or fourth round pick based on numbers and the fact that the league has a fair amount of decent rushers at it is.

lagarrette blount is my bet but i do beliueve there is at least five or seven backs that could be drafted by this regime. its actually a pretty deep draft for RBs if you're looking for solid not spectacular backs

That term though is fairly subjective. Marion Barber for a few years was pretty spectacular. It's really a matter of perhaps 70% offensive line/30% running back. Running behind this line isn't extraordinarily difficult.

I think Hardesty could look extremely impressive. NFL legend? No. Ricky Williams? No. You have to remember though Ricky Williams of today while impressive isn't the runner of 2002-2003 he just has a better line. When it comes to RBs the young ones have the legs and the speed that just allow them to play exceptionally well.

Then again I would say Priest Holmes was legendary in his day, same with Terell Davis. You just don't know. Give them an offensive line and put them in the right system and you should always have a strong rushing attack.

I expect us to be very active in the draft and I would hold off with most of these FA signings until then. We did a better job drafting Davis, Smith, Henne, Long and Clemons - than we did grabbing Wilson, McCown and Green out of hast. I say lets wheel in deal on draft day.

Gotta figure Nolan likes what he sees in him and has plans for him if it does go down. I'm excited to see what unfolds with him running the D this year.
