Should White face QB completion in training camp/preseason?

IMO there are a couple of issues here.

I feel strongly that with one of our 6th round picks we should draft a tall, strong armed QB if for no other reasons but to get another arm in camp and to push Pat White into competing for a roster spot at QB. Remembering that that he could be listed as a WR or even kicker and come in to play where ever.

He faced no competition last year I think one big reason being his draft status.

Chad Pennington has a home here now and does not want to leave because of this family. He wants a no trade clause in a new contract which is a sticking point from what I understand. He does have interest from other teams.

I like Tyler Thigpen and I believe strongly that us trading him would be a huge mistake. I'd like to see Pennington and Thigpen fight it out for the number two spot.

Putting aside my personal dislike for the Pat White pick I do really think that the best thing for him to become a NFL player or even a NFL QB is to face real completion. This would either force him to improve his QB play or give him a wake up call to start learning and running pass patterns in order to play WR. To me, I think his small hands and little experience playing WR will be a big mountain to climb. In fact, i think that is one reason he was never seen even semi practicing playing WR.

I personally think that our best line up would be Henne, Pennington and Thigpen at QB with White moving into the WR/slash slot.

The truth is that due to Pat White draft status he will be on this team somewhere next year (see Jason Allen).

i think the fo wants to keep pat white to run the wc when we do considering the tender on brown we will need someone else that can run it and while thiggy has some mobility i dont think it's the kind of speed the fo wants in that wc position otherwise we wouldve seen some of that when he came in after the white injury.i wasnt a fan of the timing of the pick nor the way the fo handled bringing him into the nfl last yr but still think he has a shot to become a valuable player for us.

Are there QB who can do what Pat does? Remember he's not a conventional QB by any measure.

White is garbage plain and simple, when he's in the game everyone knows he's going to run the ball because he can't throw, and as much as I love and respect Penny, I don't think he should return. Henne is our starter and I don't want fans clamoring for Penny if Henne has a bad game or too, he's still developing and the talent is there w/out question. Not to mention Thigpen is a very talented backup who plays hard and should remain our #2. Just my 2 cents anyways.

I don't think Pennington returning will incite a QB controversy, and I'm also averse to trading Thigpen - I like that guy, best 3rd QB in the league. :D

I think Pat White is just taking up a roster spot. He can't play QB at this level, and in order for him to play another position he should have started the transition already; it will take time to get up to speed there, so in essence he becomes a project.

If we want him to be Randle El, he should have been training with the WR's already, IMO.

I agree that he isn't conventional but he isn't really a quarterback either.

I'm not adverse to making Patty compete for a spot. He's a high quality kid and whether it worked or not, I'd bet he spent much of his offseason tweaking his release and working on his accuracy. When Henne puts up multiple 300 yd games with hardly any weapons, to me it's pretty evident that the WC, born out of necessity, is on its way out. So PW needs to compete based on his pure QB measurables. If he's bulked up - or at least become more solid and he's improved his game, we might have a QB afterall. If not, let's trade or redeploy him since Thigpen is more valuable to us as a backup QB than the 4th-6th round hit-or-miss pick the market will dictate he's worth.

I think Pat White should face competition. Not because I have anything against the kid, but I believe every QB on our roster should face competition, Henne included.

Should always have competition with your second and thrid string QBs. On top of that WTF has white done that would suggest he shouldn't have competition?!?

Okay, okay...I'm an ******* for this, but I'm sick of the bashing Pat White threads so this is the most constructive thing I can offer. You mis-spelled "competition" three times.

And now we have resigned Chad Pennington.

    We now have 4 QBs.

We should keep (1)Henne, (2)Pennington and (3)Thigpen in the QB dept. Draft Dexter McCluster who can do everything including the wildcat and send Pat White to the glue factory. He isn't a conventional QB and he isn't big enough to take on any other role.

If we remember he got his bell rung against Pittsburgh pretty easily. He is not a finesse or a power player. The "White experiment" was a failure. Lets swap for McCluster, Dexter is just as capable and won't pee himself every time the ball is snapped.

I can still remember the frst time I saw Pat White to the Fins on a mock draft @ nflcountdown.com. I stopped reading right then and there and never went back. I mean, how dumb can they be to think that my team is so dumb theyre gonna draft Pat White in the SECOND round.

Yeah I wore the dunce cap on draft day but I was right, Pat is not NFL material. He cant throw, he's too small to run the wild cat. That was a CB that knocked him into the offseason, not a LB or S. Gumbel and Dierdorf were openly mocking our offense when White went in the game, for good reason. He presents no threat to the defense as a QB. Maybe he can play WR but what WR are we gonna cut to make room for him? And how long is it gonna take to teach him the position?

I found out yesterday that this team doesnt mind erasing mistakes, Wilson is gone. Last year it was Wilford. Give White a chance in camp and if he doesnt show something, cut your losses.

Yeah, I'm sure there are guys in the league that can overthrow recievers by 10 yards and botch pitchbacks.

Figure out a justifiable reason to stash Pat White on IR for the year and see if he can pull himself together.
