Um, glad you somehow got that from my post. I never said that, but the fact is, in some schemes that is true!!!! The simple fact is, he was asked to do some things that maybe he shouldn't have, but big deal. When he had chances to make a play and do something, he failed..that has nothing to do with being labeled a FS. Did he start taking terrible angles and missing tackles because he had the free safety label on? I suppose that would of changed if he had the strong safety label on him?
Not really. He was in fact signed to play SS. That's not just opinion. The statement comes from Gil Brandt who is a very good friend of Bill Parcells. Bell signed a contract hours later that essentially said "I'll prove my worth". Then he preceded to do so. The fact is Wilson was never a FS. He just doesn't have the speed it takes to do the job. I don't think the front office missed on that fact. I think they missed on the work ethic of Yeremiah Bell. Then the defensive coordinator made the decision that Wilson's brain was better than a rookie's athletism.. .......................and that decision cost him his job.
I am debating whether I should point out the irony in lambasting the internet for being a rumor mill and unreliable...and then citing a source...from the internet to make your point.
The bleacher article is quoting a CBS Sports article. Not sure if you can get more legitimate than that.
Well, I deleted the post because after searching I don't see it anywhere else. BDH may be right. And Clemons isn't a SS, he's a FS.
With all due respect bro, I'm not buying the out of position argument either. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he a FS with the Giants? And I know when he was brought in he was told he would be our FS. This isn't something that the Dolphins just sprung on him last minute. So... he was brought in as our FS and that's the position he played and I don't care what position you put him in he tackled like a frightened little girl. Good riddance!
Per rotoworld... Contract Information for Yeremiah Bell 2/26/2009: Signed a four-year, $20 million contract. The deal contains $10 million guaranteed, including a $6 million signing bonus. 2010: $1.85 million, 2011: $3.7 million, 2012: $4.3 million, 2013: Free Agent I can't see anywhere in there to fit a $14M roster bonus, it must be $1.4M
That's his position on the depth chart as of last season, but he's also a very good hitter. It could be that, if Bell is cut, they just move Clemons over and suddenly they have two coverage guys in the deep backfield.
Since I'm the one that brought up the $14 million figure, I apoligize if I caused any confusion in this thread. That said, the figure has been reported before and I've seen it mentioned on this very website. Again, sorry for the confusion and I just want folks to know that I wasn't pulling that number out of thin air. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11479997
I'd say true IF Bell restructures. I think he will, because he's a true Fin and he's not going to get paid that money anywhere in the league. There is a chance though we could have two new Safeties next year in the starting lineup. *EDIT: I see that his cap number is friendly after all. That's good news indeed.
Seriously, cant this organization figure out a FS vs. SS player skills and depth chart....it was our most screwed up position on the field, and on paper via the depth chart all year. Wacky!
I for one am glad that we have a front office that is will to admit their mistakes and cut their loses. IMO this opens the door to anyone of the FA's FS and or Earl Thomas. Personally, I perfer ET as that would set our secondary for years to come.
And to think everyone actually believed Ireland when he talked up Wilson last week. Blowing smoke, it's what GM's do.
Totally not your fault....its been reported in what seems like a clear error....I took the bait too...till the #'s didnt jive per contract signed, etc. Was pointed out and sure seems like $1.4 over $14M is only way to explain it.
wislon needs to work with his arms more. he always tried to knock people over instead of wrapping his arms around them. as a result several people just bounced off of him and kept going... not to mention that interception he juggled and then dropped. he needs to learn that his arms do NOT end at his shoulders.
In two years, safety Gibril Wilson has been paid an amazing $24 million in guaranteed money for a pair of one-and-done seasons. Unreal. Thomas at 12 I doubt, especially if they get Dansby, and Dan Williams is still on the board..
just a jokester there are a few here I've noticed that don't talk football at all just like to play around
I fail to see the humor. I've cited no sources at all, so he's basically called me a hypocrite with no basis.
Dude the guy was a bum, get over it, he got cut by 2 different teams in 2 different seasons, he obviously isnt that great anymore....I was happy to get him at first but then he just sucked...Bell is the guy at SS
I'm over it, believe me. I simply noted that I was surprised, but I was also working with (what appears to be) false information.
I can talk football with just about anybody. No, I do not paint myself in teal and don't spend every waking hour worrying about a game, but my reputation as a Dolphins fan is far reaching on many a board. And yes, I do like to be irreverent and joke around...Sue me. Actually don't sue me...I have enough issues as it is. First off, I don't believe we have been properly intoduced. I am Sam...I am kind of a big deal. Second off, don't take my posts too seriously...and please do not take yourself too seriously on here either. Its all fun and games. We come here to talk about a sport. Nothing more, nothing less. And my point was, you were railing on the internet being a haven for bunk information and then cited how others on this very board had refuted the $14 million dollar thing. I was merely pointing out that you refering to a different internet source as your basis for your argument for being right was a tad ironic considering withn the same paragraph you were taking aim at the very same internet, no? Hypocritical? Possibly, but you said it, not me. I just said it was ironic in nature. No harm in my book. But yes, there was a basis for me making that extremely intelligent and poignant point.
I wasn't using it as a definitive cite, I just said it made more sense. If the $14 million thing had been true, it would've been all over ever Dolphins board and every Dolphins blog.
After he dropped the easiest INT I have ever seen against the Texans, when the pass was tipped into the air and right into his hands, I am glad he is gone.
Yeah Sam, only true Dolphins fans know it's aqua, not teal. Go back to the lounge and continue making fart jokes.
I take this way too seriously probably, I have too, dealing with the SB loss, then watching the Bills rip there hearts out in the playoffs on multiple occasions, then the Jags in Marino's last....I kinda take this s**t seriously, how can you not???? Dont get me wrong I like to joke around, my previous response was poking fun at a Sox fan, but when it comes to the business and sundays...all business baby all business!!!!!
Can I just say this is probably one the best posts I've read since I've been here? Two thumbs up for your sense of humor Samphin. And, spot on if I may say so. But, er, um...psst. [whispering] It's aqua not teal...K?
