The Miami Dolphins voided out of the final year of Ronnie Brown's contract and placed a first-round tender on the team's Pro Bowl tailback.

The move appears to be strictly a financial one that will likely save the franchise roughly $1 million, yet allowed the team to keep the 28-year-old tailback, who has started 55 of the 60 games he's played.

I would hate to see Ronnie Brown go but I am glad they put the first round tender on him. At least if he goes we will get to pick another player in the first. I guess that is an acknowledgement that they think his injury history will keep any would be suiters away.

I got mixed emotions on this 1. I would love to have another first round pick, however, I am a big Ronnie Brown fan. I don't think personally I could get rid of him. I love the way the guy plays football. Unselfish and willing to do what it takes to win.

Ronnie has the right to be pissed.
The brass just basically took 1mil away from Ronnie.

Then again with the time he has missed, I almost feel like he owes them one.

    I'm a bit surprised it isn't the 1st and 3rd tender.
I feel like we should swap first round tenders with the Broncos...If ya get my drift. :)

Don't want to lose Ronnie, he is my favorite Dolphin. But if we got a first rounder for him I would be ecstatic, then use the lower of our 2 1st rounders to pick up Marshall from Denver, the other to draft a FS or ILB. Or a really solid RB to replace RB.

Bummer. I'd hate to lose Ronnie, but I dont see anyone coughing up a first round pick for him either.

I love Ronnie Brown, one of my Favorite phins, but I will be shocked if any team gives up a first for him. I would love the extra pick, but I don't see it happeneing.

He can be pissed all he wants. I'm sure he and his agent were hoping a contract between the players and the league would have been agreed upon so he would have had the upperhand. He's stated it before that this is a buisiness and if he only thought of it from his advantage he now understands the other side of it.

It looks like he will be here next year because even though he is worth any 1st round pick, they will likely be hesitant because he's coming of injury. I'm glad to because the Dolphins have enough holes to fill this year and he is most definitely needed.

Let it play out one more year to see what happens.

Definitely fine with this move. The way I see it is that extra million can go towards signing someone else.

No one is going to give a first for Ronnie this year and the FO knows that. This was purely a way for them to save a million bucks.

I was thinking the chargers since they have such a low pick. Redskins and Raiders always seem to pull the unthinkable though.

Bingo. It has nothing to do with the FO not wanting Ronnie Brown. They know how important he is to the team. They know that no one will give up a 1st round pick for a running back coming off another serious injury. It's perfect, the FO saves money and Ronnie Brown stays a Dolphin and continues playing at a high level.

The big question will be, if Ronnie Brown stays healthy and has another big year, do we sign him to an extension or let him walk after the season?

Franchise him and see if he can put together two good years which so far he hasn't. I love Ronnie but he definitely needs to show some consistency from year to year.

Trade Ronnie Brown for Brandon Marshall...

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Like my old friend Georgia Boy used to say (or maybe he still says it, it's been years)

I'd rather have my balls slammed in a car door.

I think the FO isn't so confident as you guys are that there'll be no takers. Some team just might be desperate enough that a single first rounder wouldn't be so bad for them.

Ronnie Brown WILL be better next year than any player we would get in the first round. We know what we have in him. He IS our offense. He was the most important player in our 1-15, 11-5 turn around other than probably Pennington. And we are gonna give him away for a draft pic potentially??? Its insane. Draft pics are huge question marks. We will be LUCKY to get a player in the first round with half as much heart as Brown, nevermind the talent. Terrible move.

And then people are saying its ok because he wont get picked up by anyone so we are just saving a million dollars. First of all bull****, there are no sure things in football. Second of all so what? Its a disrespectful move by the team towards a player who has the most talent on our team, and gives it his all every Sunday. Ronnie deserves more than this for everything he has given. Thirdly we are going to risk our best player just to save one million dollars that he definitely deserves? Are they serious? Ugh terrible move... hopefully it all works out for Brown and the team...

You have to remember the Parcels tradition. However well regarded Ronnie is by the FO, he is still interchangeable with any back. From what I've been reading, LeGarrette Blount is receiving some very serious attention from the Fins FO and he comes from a zone read offense, so he's not going to have any trouble understanding the Wildcat.

As for the money, I honestly believe they're clearing space for Dansby and possibly a couple other moves.

I agree with your first point that if healthy, Brown will probably give us more production THIS season than any first round pick we take, but Brown is close to 30 and has 2-3 good years left before he hits a wall. I'd take the pick if someone offered it up.

I disagree with your second point, that Ronnie deserves the extra million and that its disrespectful for the team to tender him. He hasn't played full seasons 2 of the last 3 years and got paid anyway, and the guy is gonna make millions to play a game in a time where people in this country can't find jobs. I'm not crying for him.

Blount would be terrible in the wildcat.

Don't think it works like that, I think if you have 2 picks in the same round the best pick gets sent as compensation.

This move is basically a "come and get him" call to the league to try and entice someone into giving up a #1. We could have easily just left his contract or tendered him as a 1 & 3 to make sure we keep him but tendering the #1 only is a sign that he is available imho.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the Chargers or Pats sniffing around him to be honest.

I think the tender applies only to the team's pick, not any others they picked up along the way.

With all the rumors last year about Ronnie being dangled out there as trade bait, I wouldnt be surprised if we just flat out trade him for a 2nd. The move was economical for sure, but maybe a little more than that.

this is an important year for the offense ..... so stringing RB along for another year to see where we really stand come next FEB is pretty smart.

while RB has great value to this team, and specifically in the WC -- that value may not be quite as high next year, whether he stays healthy or not.

Thankfully since he's an RFA we have the option to match his contract right? So if it is the Pats who bid on him, we can always just match up if need be right?

    Why?????
Jones has run for 5-1000 + rushing seasons in a row
he has missed 1 game in 5 years

while Brown has run for 1-1000 season in 5 years
and has missed 20 games in 5 years

Over a 5 year period Jones has run for 2297 yards more than Brown...yet the Jets don't want to pay Jones a 2.8 million dollar bonus...NO way they give up a #1 for an under achiever who is hurt so often plus pay his salary
