I know several People me included (since I am located In the Atlanta area)have been talking about Demaryius Thomas. If he falls to the second round with a 4.3 40 yard dash and we can get him or possibly trade up then it will benefit us. I feel this is great news so we can go after McClain in the first round.

Demaryius Thomas breaks his foot Posted by Mike Florio on February 17, 2010 8:50 PM ET Late last month, Silva pointed out that the draftniks have been waking up to Georgia Tech receiver Demaryus Thomas. (Actually, Russ Lande of Sporting News was one of the first draft experts to push Thomas up the board.)

But now Thomas could slide, due to a broken foot suffered Wednesday while working out, according to Tony Pauline of SI.com.

Per Pauline, the injury happened while Thomas was practicing the three-cone drill, one of the various events of the Underwear Olympics.

Agent Todd France told Pauline that it's a clean break, and that Thomas is expected to recover in four to six weeks.

"There are no long-term effects from the injury and Demaryius will be
100 percent by the time OTA's begin," France said. The agent also added that surgery is possible, if it "hastens the healing process."

Thomas averaged nearly 20 yards per catch during his three-year career at Georgia Tech.

    He's listed as a 4.55 guy; 6'3" 229, though; good size.

If we're drafting a WR not named Dez Bryant, this is the guy I want.

Who has him running 4.33? Do you have a link? The places that I've looked have him timed @ 4.55 and 4.60

Everything I've read about him says he's got good but not great speed. I like his size and I wouldn't expect a guy his size to run a 4.33 40. Overall I'm good with drafting him, though. Evidently he catches everything that comes his way.

His agent says that he was running in the 4.3's before the injury. Not exactly an unbiased source but there you have it.

    4.33 is super fast.

I have a hard time thinking a big guy like that can move so fast. Not saying that's impossible, but that's REALLY fast. I think the fastest official 40 was 4.24?

    Sure it wasn't a 4.43?

Thanks and you're right. That's not an unbiased source. I don't know that I would even say it's a trustworthy source for that matter.

This is a little more believable. A 4.33 from a guy that big is almost unreal.

A 4.38 is impressive in its own right, though. But those guys at AP really help with takeoff/technique. I really try to not put too much stock in 40 times (although, it's really difficult to ignore).

Is he fast on tape? That's what really matters.....

A guy 6'3" and 230 pounds running a 4.3 anything, with a 20-yard average in college would put him in the top 10 in the draft.

That's physical freakishness on a par with Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson.

Scott Wright at NFL Draft Countdown has him as a 4.55 guy.

Not to say he still wouldn't be an attractive pick for us in the 3rd, though.

Times on NFLDC aren't very accurate before the combine.

3rd oir 4th is where i could see us drafting a WR although LaFell in the 2nd is an interesting possibility. If we could draft Thomas with a 4th I would do that in a heartbeat. A 3rd I'm not sure

I didn't watch hardly any GT games. I only caught the game versus VT and the ACC title game against Clemson last season. With that, this is my impression of Thomas: big, strong guy who can fight for the ball (and most often times wins); most of his catches were surprise passes (any pass was a surprise in GT's offense) and against single coverage as most defenses were focused more on stopping the triple option (this resulted in a high yds/catch average). I could be way off on this as I didn't watch him much at all, this was just my impression. But if it's true though, one question is how well he can play when defenses aren't dedicating 9-men to stop the run.

No way he's ever been a 4.3 guy, least from what I've seen. I do think he's faster than a 4.55 guy though. However, you're talking about hundredths of a second.

+1. And his rankings are usually pretty far off before the combine also.

Thomas' physicality is the antithesis of Ginn's.

I wouldn't mind seeing him run a 4.49 in the combine to tell you the truth.

With a broken foot or what not I don't think we're going to get to see him run at the combine. They said he'd be 100% for OTAs, but I doubt he'll be ready for the combine. That's like 2 weeks before the draft right? Which leaves him all of 4-6 weeks to be back where he was?

    I'm awful with dates.

Edit: Just looked it up: Feb. 24 to March 2

    I don't think we'll see him doing a 4.anything in the 40. Maybe a 40.something on crutches though...

    No, IMO.

I don't believe the 4.38. Maybe 4.58, maybe even 4.48 as his high. I see him as a 4.5 guy though.

If we don't go Dez at 12, which I hope we don't - I want Ro McClain there, then this kid sounds like a solid pick if he has any speed at all and we can get him in the 2nd or especially 3rd round.

I was thinking the exact same thing. But, after doing a little digging and reading some scouting reports, it sounds like the kid is gonna be a bit of a project. Here's one report (from WalterFootball.com):

Points for using the word "antithesis" in a post.

With his size, if Thomas ran anything under a 4.5 he goes higher than anyone thinks.

The day he declared I thought he is a first round value. I think he has more potential then Bryant. He is a little raw yes as he didn't run many routes in GT and he played in an option offense. But he does a lot and has a lot that is going to make him successful in the nfl. One is his size, two has been mentioned many times his physical play, three his run blocking, four the way he attacks the ball he does just let the ball come to him, five is his hands and how he attacks the ball with those. He doesn't let the ball get into his body. His hands are still not great now, but they will improve, bank.

If he makes it to our 2nd pick and we didn't pick Dez in the first I will be touched by an angel :)
