i really, really hope we don't go brandon lafell.theres alot of argument that he just needs a better qb but i've seen enough of him being from la. to know he won't be that consistant guy we desperately need no matter who'ss throwing to him.
Damian Williams came up a few times during discussions with analysts and scouts on my recent trip to Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl. The question with Williams is a slight build (6-0 3/4, 194) and lack of breakaway speed. But he’s a top-notch route runner known to be fearless. Plus, he’s a threat as a punt returner. So Kiper expects us to spend a 2nd round pick who is essentially Brian Hartline but 2 inches shorter and 1 pound lighter? And we already have a slight build receiver who is 6'0 and a threat as a punt returner. Granted Williams is about 14 pounds heaver then Ginn, but Williams is just more of what we have. NO Thank you
Music to my ears if true! And it just might be - while McClain is gold IMO, there is a lot of talent at the top of the draft, so much so that he probably will drop unless he just has an unrelenting combine.
Reason being? Rejus Benn and Demaryius Thomas > Brandon Lafell and Damian Williams Both Williams and especially Lafell have bust written all over them.
He is too small to play in the NFL and I don't think he will be a good pro at all. He will have serious issues picking up the blitz too. I think he will be a return guy and maybe used at wr but still not a good pro a
I think he can be a very good pro. Not a full time back mind you, but a Leon Washington/Darren Sproles type who can get 10-15 carries and 5+ receptions a game lining up in several spots. Also can be a return guy as you said. He had 1200 yards rushing and 8 TD's at 6.5 YPC to go with 44 catches for 520 yards and 3 more TD's. Doing that in the SEC is impressive. If were going offense in round 2 I'd prefer a Demaryius Thomas or Rejus Benn obviously, but you can't really complain when you're getting a playmaker of his caliber.
Firstly, he probably will not be in stuck in a situation to pick up a blitz, and if he is, he should do OK. He had some issues blocking because of his size (at Sr. Bowl), although there were a few times were he held up his own during practices. This is something he is very aware of and has been working on. In a blitz situation (in the NFL), McCluster will probably roll out for a screen anyway, and trust me, the guy will get good yardage. And usually, during a blitz, the QB recognizes it and gets rid of the ball quickly. McCluster will probably be only used to chip someone and then hit the flats, not to go one-on-one with someone 80 pounds heavier. He is not MJD in that sense. I think a creative offense like Miami's would work wonders for a guy like McCluster. He has touched the ball 25+ times in the SEC, but I doubt he will be that guy in the NFL. This guy is a player, no matter how you look at it. Is he a stretch in the 2nd round? Maybe? Maybe not? But I suspect whoever picks him will get one heck of an offensive weapon.
difficult speculations. maybe they will move up trying to snare Bryant as well as McClain. not that many holes to fill for 2010: ILB, NT & WR, possibly a FreeSafety & TE. not so bad. like to see them pick up the ILB & WR in the draft & the NT & possibly FS or TE in free-agency
Darren Sproles was a great starting back in college and Leon Washington even started alot. McCluster did not get many games were he carried the load and he can't. He is too small and only has speed and quickness. It will be hard to have him in the game againist a team that blitzes because there is no way he can hold up. McCluster is very limited and for every Sproles and Washington there are a ton of Lorenzo Bookers. I dont think McCluster is going to be a good pro at all.
Alen that's my point. Why waste a high pick on someone that is equal to or worse than we already have. We have a ton of number 2 and number 3 wide receivers, we don't need another. Think if we can draft a huge game changing number 1 Wr then have Hartline/Ginn and Bess in the slot then we'd have a very dangerous receiving core. Hell put Ginn in the slot at times, and if you include Camarillo we can go 5 wide.
