Lingering hatred, they took Csonk,Warfield, and Kiick from us,and made us have our first losing season under the Shula era.We went from automatic contender to losing season because of that stupid league.
Somebody brought up their frustration at us not having won a Superbowl in forever,we'd been to the dance for three straight years before that moron league took most of our offense.
I think I was like three when this happened, but didn't this have more to do w/ Joe Robbie being a cheapskate? He even balked at giving Danny Boy more money after he only went out and threw for 48 TDs and 5K yards, back when it was really hard!
He was paying league standard, and the WFL threw money against the wall to steal players.Other teams got hit,but we took the brunt of it.
Good thing you finally got this off your shoulders Hate to see innocent people getting massacured on evening news because of something that happened decades ago
As hard as it is for me to say this, but our run was over. There was no way we could have beaten the Steelers in mid to late 70's.
Yeah but if Joe Robbie would have at least matched the WFL's offers they would have stayed. Competition between businesses is a fact of life in our society. Pay the man or lose him...happens every day somewhere. Robbie could have and should have paid them.
True, but if he wanted to keep it going, he should have spent the extra dough. And I think his later balking at Marino's demands (at first) showed how cheap he probably was overall. I mean, he didn't think it was a good idea to lock down this passing God ASAP? Anyhow, it's too bad. Who knows what could have happened in the later 70s. It appears the teams were still competitive (only one losing season), but w/ those three guys, who knows! Related, it's still just a testament to just how consistent Shula was! You get the idea he would have made our '07 team 8-8
