Hello all, hopefully FH will be back soon and we can get back to our normal D-fan lives. I have not posted here but back in the "last" days of FH I did post that I did not really care about the record this year as long as we made progress. I thought we needed to be exposed and see exactly what kind of guys we had. I stick by that, however any progress since then either is disguised as regression or well hidden.

At that time I think we were 0-8 or so but the team had no "quit" and there were signs of progress....the OL was fairly effective, there was good effort, Ginn looked to be developing, and the D was starting to look better...all while there were a ton of injuries and youth at a lot of positions. Since that point the team has mailed it in more and more every week, the OL has stepped back, our QB of the future has shown no signs, our d has gotten progressivly worse and the ST's has not improved. Now PF coaches are paid to see the little signs of a guy being a player and bring those qualities out. Right now as much as we want to blame Cam, and to some degree he is responsible for the effort and some game management issues, the larger issue is we simply do not have a lick of talent. I have looked REAL close for those little signs, and while there are a few...there are not many. so as for our roster....

So here is how I see our roster
QB: Green is done, Cleo a FA, Bramlett is I believe still on PS, and on to Beck. I had an old old post that I voiced my concern over Becks pocket awareness and handling of the ball after he played in an AS game last year. I saw some of the same things this year and kept my mouth shut because some on here swayed me to believe his arm was better than it is and his ball handling and field presence were somehow good because he is 26. I apologize for not being a contrarian voice. I do not see the slightest sign that John Beck is a capable NFL QB, and this is not a bash John Beck thread. I just do not see what the talent that some on here have blamed away as having poor players around him. We may really need 3 new guys at this position to be a real NFL team next year, possibly 2 and give Beck the #3 job to see if he can grow exponintally and become a decent #2 some day...that is a bad hope when you drafted a guy #2......

    RB:
I think we can now conclude Brown is a true team changer. chatman is adequate but a FA, Cobbs the typical training camp hope. Williams almost has to come back because this is a luxry and RB injury makes him questionable for next year. Godo is a FA that is an adequate #2 if chatman walks but never the answer....Booker is better off making a conversion to WR IMHO, but regardless is not a game changer on a regular basis.

    FB:
Mauia. I admit I did not see it last year on film and did not see it in PS. I thought Kyle Eckel was the better choice. Looks like Reagan might grow into the role as there have been moments...but Eckel has shown more in NE than Reagan here......

    WR;
Ginn's a keeper and potential star, Booker is gone, Hagan an average #3...at best, and a lot of hope that we stike gold with Kerry Reed or more probably chandler Williams but I would not plan on it.....I would like to see Lorenzo booker be brought along as a slot receiver.

    TE:
I thought that Martin signing was a big mistake...I was right. Peele is a good #2 guy. Halterman is fodder until something better comes along.

    OL
This potentially is an area of "strength"...at least on this team. It is also an area that could impload. Shelton is being Shelton, Liewinski is reverting to Liewinski, and the backups are average and it looks as if Alabi has played his way below Julius Wilson on the depth chart...thats bad. The only keepers being Hadnot, Carey and a future PB center...Satele. Problem being Hadnot is a FA and who would want to be here for this so he could well be gone also. The young guys are guys that we typically get excited about during TC and generally do nothing. The only "hope" is Mormino and Glass Joe...thats not good.....

    DL:
We got nothing but a few scant glimpses of Abe Wright but he does have some of those little hard to find qualities that might mean he is a player down the road...he looked confused a few times but he does have the edge ability and hand fighting ability to maybe become a player. Roth regressed but is an effective rotational guy. Taylor is still JT despite his numbers being off he still has some explosion, Holiday has been OK and is servicable. Rod Wright has grown some and has potential, Moses has flashed at times, and the "others" are mediocre and would not make many other teams IMHO. The real dissapointment is Paul Solai, who is non existent and is living up to his clipping of looking like Tarzan and playing like Jane.

    LB's
ZT is on the down side obviously although you may squeeze two more years out of him, Crowder is above average but not going to become what we thought he might, Pope plays well in short bursts and is an NFL backup for many more years but never the answer. Spragen is average and declining. Kelvin smith showed me personally nothing but now since things have gone so far south he may get a few positive reviews to give us hope. No one else is even servicable...

    CB's
Lehan, W. Allen and Goodman have all played well in spurts. Daniels lack of triangle numbers make him a #3/4 guy IMHO. This is not as dire as the rest of the team, these guys have shown that little something but have not put it together...my guess because the front seven has been so poor....

    S
A train wreck. Bell/Hill...who knows what they are when they come back. Jason Allen and I am on the record when he was being bashed simly does not play like I read. He always seems to be around the ball and I have not seen huge lack of talent where you say this guy cannot play. He looks like he may be an above average NFL safety given some up front help. Of the rest Worrell/Tillman/Schulters/Bryan and the rest....IMHO I think the only one with potential is Tuff Harris based on PS. Why he got cut and brought back I do not know but I have seen enough bad personnel evaluations to believe that it is possible that I am right on this kid. He has AA and awareness and likes contact...a better safety than CB and might be a servicable NFL guy.

The long and short...true NFL players on:
Offense: Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Chatman, Ginn, Peele, Carey, Satele, Hadnot, and Mauia. hope for the best with Mormino, Toledo, and one of the young guys like Chandler Williams...

    Defense:
Rod Wright, Abe Wright, Roth, JT, Holiday, Moses, ZT, Crowder, Pope, Lehan, Goodman, W. Allen, Daniels, J. Allen and Tuff Harris. Hope for the best with Solai and Y. Bell's comeback.

That folks is not a lot of true NFL talent. You can agree on potential or disagree but that is really the best we can hope for from this roster. We have a long period of time before that many holes can be filled and FA's will want out of Miami, potential FA's are not going to want to come here and our 2 stars are getting older......the only way is to take less value for the #1 pick for multiple picks hope we can find a true QB...maybe at the top of round 2 THIS year. Beck has not shown any of the little things you look for. We wanted to see what we had to make an 08 draft evaluation to see if we needed a QB....we have enough evidence now. Not exactly sure what the conclusion is but the all mock drafts should be pretty easy...draft the best available player...perios...if that is Run DMC...so be it........if it is Ryan/Brennan insert QB here....do it. But take the best guy regardless of position, and bring in young lower tier FA's that may have an upside.....

Good post and I agree with your statements on Beck. My first thought would be to draft McFadden, being he's the best player in this draft. But now, I would like to see the Dolphins draft Brian Brohm. He has those intangibles you look for in a QB. A lot depends on what the Dolphins do in FA. I would like to see Miami sign a Patrick Crayton or Bryant Johnson to shore up the WR corp to along with Ginn, Hagan and possibly moving L Booker to the slot. Ronnie Brown was having a Pro Bowl season and on his way to leading the league in rushing. Either Chatman or Gado has a backup and maybe drafting a RB in the later rounds.

If drafting, in my Dolphins mock, Brohm in the 1st. Tracy Porter, CB from Indiana and Dre Moore, DT from Maryland in the 2nd. Take Spencer Larsen, an ILB from Arizona in the 3rd. After that is anyones guess, maybe taking Jason Rivers, WR from Hawaii.

i guess it is too bad you weren't the contrarian voice. now you are just one of many that think 2 bad games is enough to evaluate our rookie qb.

Good post, but I still think that we need to give Beck some more time before we decide to jettison him to the bench. I am starting to think that taking the BPA is a good idea and that would be McFadden. Give him some time to learn the position and start shoring up the defense.

I understand your sarchasim regarding my post, I truly do. I was not real concerned with the results being 0-8 and am not real concerned with the numbers that Beck has put up or wins and losses but I have a tendency to evaluate and look for is the little things or inklings that what I have seen before is outside the norm. The same things that concerned me at the AS game and when I viewed Beck are still there and I have seen none of the little things that make me think he is the answer as far as tools...forget about gameplanning and comprehesion and the intangible things. I also caughted a butt load of crap for saying I was seeing the same repetitive tendancies in Derek Hagan and got BBQ'd....I think Hagan is in the same boat....fact is the guys drops more passes that a marine in a whorehouse. But back to Beck, yes two games is a short time frame to evaluate someone's ability to take it to the next level...unfortunatly the next level for Beck would be a great Pee Wee QB....he simply has not shown the tools that would make it possible for him to progress mentally to make an NFL premier QB. Remember Marino threw int's by in droves his first quarters...but you saw the tools and knew it was just a matter of time before the game came to him mentally...that is just one example of many. Fiedler had all the toughness and intangibles of an All Pro but just did not have enough tools....i think Beck is a lot closer to a Fiedler than a Marino..............
