It seems like a giant iPhone. Being advertised as the ultimate internet device, it's also supposed to run "virtually" every iPhone/iPod Touch app. I dunno what it is, mbut I ****ing want one. The entry level version starts at $500 with a 16GB solid state drive. The high end one has a 64GB drive, and will do 3G data from AT&T for $830 (for $30 per month). I WANT! In stores in 60 days! http://www.pcworld.com/article/18794...ples_ipad.html http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/20...live-event.ars
Excessive doesn't even begin to describe it. Is it supposed to be like Mac's overpriced version of a thinkpad or something?
I'm not an Apple person but in the end what does this really do that an iphone/ipod touch doesn't do? Is it just a bigger screen?...which to me looks like it could make it clunky for everyday use. It looks cool though.
Been following this thing all day. Is it the wave of the future? Probably not, as it's not portable enough (doesn't fit in my pocket ). But it still looks like a fun thing to have. Has external keyboard accessory with a stand (sold separately of course). The data plans are reasonable and the fact that you can activate or cancel them at anytime (no two year contracts) is a good thing! And the cost... $499 starting price not too shabby. Wonder what happens when you drop one?
Think of it as a netbook replacement/competitor. It can run "deluxe" apps that wouldn't work on the iPhone due to size constraints. Like iWork.
It's also supposed to be a competitor for the kindle. That is why the screen is so large, for e-books. Apple wants to sell hardcovers for 13-15 and papperbacks for 10. Essentially they want to wreck Amazon's ****.
I see nothing revolutionary about it. Its just a big I-touch. For that price you can get a fully functioning tablet pc with a real os.
Apple is kind of like Nintendo; they can pretty much print money by coming out with stuff that isn't really much different than their predecessor. But at least Apple's stuff are a lot cooler IMO.
this guys says its best about the new iPad link: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9164073&postcount=2173
Possibilities are endless because the hardware is restrictive. It's not like you can run Crysis 2 on it.
hush you! Could you run Crysis 2 on a netbook anyways? Just curious here since I don't own a netbook.
Or for $800 you could buy yourself a brand new laptop! Which provides 100% the functions of a regular PC!
for that money I'd just buy a regular laptop. And the name is terrible. Why not just call it the iTampon? or was that already taken?
I think all of you guys who are saying "you can buy a PC for that money" is missing the point. Steve Jobs and company are marketing masters. They've somehow learned how to make their products seem "cool" and tap into new markets. Do you really think Apple is going after you guys? No offense to anyone here, but you guys are no the people who they're after. Just like the Macbooks aren't after the hardcore PC person, the iPad isn't after the happy PC guy. They're after that student, that mom, that Mor, who wants quick and easy access to the internet.
When the hell did you become a Mac enthusiast? I've pretty much decided that Apple could probably take a rock, paint it white or jet black, and call it the "iRock" and sell it for $200... and people would buy it.
I'm not a Mac enthusiast, but I have come to seriously appreciate what they do. People downplay all of Apple's stuff calling it "dumbed down" but my Macbook Pro is the best computer I've ever owned PERIOD. The only time I ever use my PC is when I need to stuff related to my 360
Will it have divx support? because that's the one factor that pisses me off most about Apple products and the iphone.
i can promise that at launch, the iPad will suck dirty balls. I can also promise that within 1 year (maybe less) the 2nd gen iPad will have system changes, updates, and several new additions to it to make it everything everyone is saying it "should" have. 12 months from now you'll see Dell, HP, IBM, and Acer all have similar type devices. I'll bet on it.
I don't disagree that the thing will probably be popular. I have a Mac and love it, I have an iPod touch and love it. I just don't see where this fits in, so I'll have to wait and see more of Apple marketing to tell if I'll need it . I'm not giving up my phone, it's too big to carry like my iPod, so what does it do that I can't get with a small laptop?
But the iPhone still doesn't support Divx, which pisses me off immensely. They force you to convert all of your videos to mpeg4, which is a royal pain in the but. It's so easy to just allow it. I'll never understand why they don't
I don't need the thing... I just see way too much possibilities for it (especially once it's jail broken) so I REALLY want one.
I have an IPhone and an IPod. For me I really do not see the use for this product. We have a netbook and a laptop at home so I would not use it to access the internet. And I already use the laptop and XBox 360 for my games and IPod for music. What will make me buy this?
sooo, all this does is let you read books?oh and surf the web?and look like a douche when you put away your laptop(which i've found does a remarkable thing in letting me read books,e-mail and surf the web oh and play w.o.w)and i-phone to pull this out to read? it's too friggin big for my liking and doesnt do enough to not need to carry my laptop, phone.where to put this thing while on the go as another poster stated it doesnt fit in a pocket unless you are dressed like a clown and have really, really big pockets..it may fit in a man purse/fanny bag but im not wearing one of those in public.imo epic fail.
