I liked him a lot more before he weighed in at 370 pounds yesterday. I do think that, had he weighed in at 330-340, he was an option for us at #12 overall. Now we might take a flyer on him in the second round, though I'd prefer we go for a WR or TE (with our #12 going to select an ILB or OLB).
He swears that he will be around 330, but I doubt it, or would not take a chance on it anyway. Until FA is over we wont have a great idea of our direction anyhows. But i do think we will take a LB with our first pick whatever.
Terrence “Mount” Cody hoping to melt away the pounds http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...ce-mount-cody-hoping-to-melt-away-the-pounds/
Could be a blessing in disguise. The coaching staff will get a great look at him this week and will know if he has what it takes to get to where he needs to be weight-wise, and if his skills are really up to par. In the meantime, the weight may drop him far enough that we can get him with our 2nd. If he does happen to fall to our 2nd (or close enough to trade up for), the staff will have excellent insight on whether they believes that they can make him into a starting NT and if it's worth taking him at that point.
If they drafted him high, I wonder if they would be as strict with him as they are/where with Soliai. When he didn't make weight they suspended him for games. There is no doubt Cody will have problems maintaining his required weight but being a high pick by the regime, would they suspend him?
Cody has never had a problem maintaining weight during the season under Saban. He went from 420 to 370 and down to 345 at one point during this season. Also, he has the footwork of a much lighter man. Don't sleep on Cody. He will be a beast in the NFL.
We've heard that he weighed 380 during the regular season. His exact weight must be known to see if he's heavier now or lighter than he used to be.
He was 380 last season. He stayed between 350-360 the majority of the season. Look, he's never gonna be a tremendous pass rusher but he's a 3-4 NT who demands double teams, can collapse the interior of the O-Line, can't be moved and can't be run on. The man can bring down SEC Runningbacks by putting a hand around their waist and falling on them. He's quality. Anyone who lands him and puts him in as a 3-4 NT will be happy they did. Also, don't let the weight fool you. He has never played like someone who is out of shape or over weight in his 2 years at Bama. And he did actually look pretty good today in practice. None of the O-Linemen on the South could handle him 1 on 1.
It's not just the physical problem, it's the mentality. The biggest opportunity of a lifetime is coming up with the Senior Bowl and the Combine and this guy doesn;t care enough, or isn;t disciplined enough to exercise and eat better? Instead he fattens up? Don;t like it. Is he lazy? Weak willed? What's the mental issue?
If Cody does what he says he will, get down to 340-350 by combine week and can hold it up to draft day and McClain is off the board Cody is the guy I want us to consider there. After watching him this year if we can control his weight issue the up side is huge for this team! And speaking of his desire/attitude I remember the two blocked FG tries and the way he ran back and hugged Saben afterwards. Remember he has NOT wilted under a coach who is known for being HARD on his players! BTW with Tony and Nolan watching and coaching him you can bet they will KNOW what they have in this guy. I will trust their call on this one!
I would be unhappy if we took Cody at #12, but if we were lucky enough to trade down or if he fell to us at our 2nd rounder (#43 I believe) I'd be happy with him. He's probably a 2-down lineman but from a 3-4 nose I can't fault that too much. As long as he keeps weight, and they'd better put a clause in his contract about it, I think he could start on this defense for ten years.
One other thing I have to share with you that is a Parcells non-negotiable. Parcells doesn't like fat guys. Ironic, for obvious reasons, I know. But that's the way it is. The Big Tuna wants his players fit and strong. He doesn't want them fat, and he definitely doesn't want them sloppy fat. I GUESS PARCELLS MUST NOT LIKE VERNON CAREY
Even if he pulls an Andre Smith at the combine, I cant see passing up on this kid in the 2nd round if he's actually there.
Sparano impressed by Alabama's Cody, but is he worth the weight? http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/other/fl-dolphins-senior-bowl-0127-20100126,0,7475653.story
His work ethic is horrible, he will be like Ted Washington, and at 12 far too risky....I'd rather have Dan Williams...
