New York, NY (GML-AP) - After a coaching search full of twist and turns the New York Jets have officially announced the hiring of Pep Hamilton to become the 19th Head Coach of the New York Jets. The contract is expected to be for $3 million in the first year. Pep Hamilton coached with the Jets from 2003 to 2005 as both the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach. Known to be an innovative offensive mind he will break the long chain of defensive minded coaches like Rex Ryan, Eric Mangini and Herm Edwards. Hamilton will bring with him to New York two San Francisco assistant coaches. Running the offensive will be George "Geep" Chryst who has been the quarterbacks coach for the 49ers the past two seasons and has been praised with helping Alex Smith develop. He was also the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers when Jim Harbaugh was the quarterback. On the defensive side of the ball Jim Tomsula will take the reigns of defensive coordinator after coaching San Francisco's defensive line unit since 2007. Tomsula also spent time as the interim head coach after Mike Singletary was fired. Both Chryst and Tomsula will be paid $1.5 million for their services for the upcoming season. "I'm relieved, all the paperwork is finally done and we officially have great coaching staff for next season." Jets General Manager Hisno commented to reporters outside Jets headquarters. It has been a long and exhaustive search but the New York Jets have set their direction for the upcoming season.
Well we both know he's got the personality that players want to play for. Chryst has helped the 49ers RZ offense and the Jets need a little Pep. The colts can elevate Clyde Christensen
