It covers the era from 1845-1877

I've just started this and have listened to his first Lecture, there is both good and bad but I could say that of any historian. Yet I'm drawn to this course as a moth to the light.

Some thoughts right off the top:

    1. He has an arrogance about him that I can sum up with his first stab at the general public when he states, at the end of his story (the reporter ask for the dead historian's phone number), the ignorant american public.
    2. Using "The Killer Angels" to help teach a history course, I question that, but we shall see just where it leads.

3.Now the good, he pointed out something that I had never thought about before, maybe we are as ignorant as he says. MLK's "I have a dream" speech came 100 years, to the day, of Lincoln's EP. For the rest of that 40 + minutes my overriding thought was it shouldn't have taken so long and why did it? As we've seen through out the course of our history there have been African Americans who have overcome great obstacals and do good things yet as a society it took the black race 100 years after being freed to say "Enough, we will live this way no more!" Which also makes me think there had to be a better way.

Anyway I want to relisten to the first course again and then come back and give you a better idea of my thoughts.

sking29 if you have already been thru this, or even if not, please speak your peace.

Once again I must thank both anlgp and sking29 for this wonderful link, thanks guys.
