Couldn't take any chances. I was working on trading up to the top 5 for Miller, but I felt like I was giving up way too much, when I could move up a few spots for half the price and get a pass rusher that has similar potential as Miller. I'm fine with giving up some of my mid round picks to trade up and "reach", since I have very few needs right now and I am loaded with them (had two 3rds, three 4ths, and two 5ths).
can you and / or alen elaborate on why you guys like Aldon Smith as much as you do? Honestly, I haven't done much research on the draft this year and this could be a guy the Dolphins pick at 15. Thanks.
He just seems to have risen like a meteor the last month or so. Did he have a freakish workout or something?
Probably just more widespread recognition as more teams evaluate him. He’s definitely a worthy selection.
He actually had a poor combine, but a very good pro day....he is still very young even for a draft pick...21 if im not mistaken? Certainly worthy of his selection according to my expert opinion.
Anyways, Houston is on the clock and I can guess who they are taking....I just hope its sooner rather than later.
I didn't hear much about him until around November/December this past year, so I decided to look him up on youtube. I watched two videos of him and was impressed by his athleticism and versatility, so I researched him some more (watched more videos and read some articles)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBee49viSK8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSG8ETv7_ts&feature=related I really like his size and athleticism, especially. I feel like he is the 2nd best 3-4 OLB in the draft. He also had a pretty good pro day.
Agree with all of this. If the Phins can’t get a QB in the first round, might as well draft one of the best 3-4 OLBs not named Von Miller (looking at you, Alen!), then go ahead and terrorize everyone else’s QBs for the next few seasons.
Agreed and I like Von miller a lot. Aldon smith is just violent. Reminds me a lot of a Kevin Greene or a James harrison in style of play. Question: it's been an hour since the last pick; can I make my selection or do I have to wait til my scheduled time slot?
Aldon Smith was only a Sophomore, which is another reason why he wasn't talked about as much until after January and such.
I still perfer trading down and building the interior OL to going OLB here ecspecially any high risk guys. If a Mallet/Ponder is there I will be rooting for one of them, if not take a lil les value trade down get a solid T prospect or G imo.
Ponder will absolutely be there at 15, the question is whether or not he’s worth the pick. I wouldn’t hate it, since anything is better than Chad Henne, but…
Yes, Houston can't be "skipped" until their time is officially up. Even if they take 3 hrs to pick, if it isn't 9pm they still are within their rights. You could always try and trade up for a 4th.
Is it within Commissioner Gridell’s rights to get Houston on the phone and tell them to **** or get off the pot?
I havent spoken to Houston much so Im not sure where they are looking. Looking at their roster it may be the same spot I am and if it is I will be a grumpy mod lol. Honestly if you cant figure it out looking at my roster then you dont deserve to know until the time comes Thanks for the advice Wanny/Spielman.
And so the Texans come to life and shatter the dreams of everyone looking to trade into the 11-15 range. Now the big question is if Detroit will wait until tomorrow to make their pick.
