so I think this thread has inspired me. We've basically decided that for various reasons we're not going to be getting a dog or cat in our apartment, so I think I might set up an aquarium. We used to have one when I was younger (i'm pretty sure it was freshwater, because I remember having newts) and I liked it and haven't had fish since then. I think if I do this I'll lean towards freshwater, just because I have little experience with fish, and I'm not looking to spend an excessive amount of money. (I do realize aquariums are not 'cheap', but I don't think I can afford a saltwater, let alone a reef.) If anyone has any general tips for beginners I'll take whatever advice. Though, since I only just started thinking about this, I'm not 100% sold on the idea yet. So don't worry about going to great lengths to advise me, as it may be for naught in the end. I've got a nice, safe spot in my bedroom, shielded from sunlight and would be a nice spot for a tank. I suppose what I'm looking for is what size tank I should get, what type of store I should go to to get supplies, recommended fish for a beginner who might have a few 'oops' moments while getting the hang of things, ballpark cost estimates. that sorta thing EDIT: by the way finsincebirth, your fish are beauties
