What are my other options for midnight release? Wal-Mart is just as evil!

I also had a few ancient PS2 games to trade in, I only had to end up paying $15 for RE5 in return for games I can't play anymore even if I wanted to.

I preordered it from amazon and they do release day delivery for like 5-6 bucks. Not midnight but saves you a trip on release day.

I can't get out of the scene where you're in the house and the dude on the roof with the megaphone sends all the zombies after you.

Hold yourself up in the house until the cut scene where you see they break through the roof. Then you need to make your way outside and you will see the Big guy with the axe destroy the gate that seals you in from the main village area.

You can then use your environment(explosive/fuel barrels & electric generators) to get as many free kills as possible & make sure to grab the machine gun located directly straight down the road from where the starting house is(on the right wall, you will see a weapon case).

When all else fails, run!

Yea, it took me a few times, you can also climb up on the roof of one of the house via some stairs, and jump across to another roof. The guy with the axe can't get to you, and only a few zombies will jump across. There is a fence behind that you that they will climb over, but you can pick them off as they climb.

if you look around a bit you'll notice 2 power line poles with transformers on top of them. If you shoot them they will fall down and electrocute anyone around it. Every time big boy with the axe gets near one pop a shot at the transformer on the ground, which will bring him to his knees. As he is on his knees pop a few head shots and the guy will be toast in no time.

You'll encounter a guy later in the game with a chainsaw, which you can use the same method to get past him.

Well I got two copies of Little Big Planet, so I went and traded one in at Wally World for a copy of RE:5 on 360.

The Arbiter and I have been playing through the co-op and is a lot of fun. This is actually the first RE game I have played, though I saw RE:2 played through in its entirety and saw a lot of RE:3.

I don't like how they break up the screen when on the same console (since they leave a lot of screen unused), but the game is real good. We're in the early part of Chapter 4 right now. Probably not this weekend, but we might be able to beat it by the one after that.

I couldn't get through that either. I quit playing this game after like an hour. I probably should have given it more time but I don't know.. I just don't like the controls much. Strange considering they didn't bother me on RE4 when I played it about 3 years ago. I was playing with the wife and we died about four or five times at the house scene. We ended up turning it off and playing Left 4 Dead.

How accurate are you in RL when strafing with a 9mm?

How are police offers trained to fire a sidearm?

At best moving while shooting is useful for merely suppression fire. So tell me then how useful suppressive fire is against zombies?

    Use your head :p

They aren't going to change their gameplay controls because of the current generation of fanboys who are used to regenerating health, run n' gun, and spray n' pray.

What's next? Complain about the laser reticule because it's not a circular target that pretty much removes any sense of accuracy for the shooter?

Let's make all the games into Halo!!!111

blame Capcom, not me.... ok let's try this...

    1. I'm no police officer, but I'm quite sure any moron can take a step to his left or right with out having to lower his weapon first in order to get out of the way of a charging zombie, space marine, covenant alien, or other bad thing from games.

    2. If they didn't want to please the "current generation of fanboys who are used to regenerating health, run n' gun, and spray n' pray", then why did they pretty much make a shooter with 3 or 4 puzzles in it then give it half-assed shooter controls. I'm just saying, the game is a shooter... No matter how much Capcom and RE fanboys and loyalists spin it. So if you're gonna do a shooter, do it all the way. Don't cripple the controls and sell it as "That's what makes it Resident Evil"

    3. Because that's what everyone wants right? Halo. Awesome. I can't wait for the next one.

    :knucks:

You have a point but the shooting in the game is just painfully awkward. And just because it's supression fire doesn't mean it always misses. Trust me, I'm an ex-soldier, I've shot thousands of rounds. I've been to ranges and shot while walking and from a moving vehicle. If someone is five or six feet away I could hit them while dancing a jig, and definitely while backing away. Playing the game I think the purpose of the controls is to give you a trapped feeling even when you're in open space. It might not be as frustrating if the sheer number of enemies and pace of gameplay didn't put me into shooter mode.

Allowing firing on the move with less accuracy seems like the perfect compromise for this game to me.

Taking a single step to the left or the right isn't exactly strafing. Look at common popular shooters out there, that is not simply "taking a step", its continuously moving while shooting, and those games do not penalize accuracy even slightly. It basically mocks realistic firearms. You want to see a game that allows strafing, but does it properly? America's Army.

They force you to move extremely slow while "strafing", and it screws with your accuracy.

People who are used to playing RE games since the third game have been fully aware & used to the 180 spin. It may take some getting used to for newcomers to the franchise, but if you utilize this technique(and not completely surrounded), there should be absolutely no problem getting away from a zombie.

Something I would agree to as a welcome change though would be a faster animation for dropping the firearm to your side. Being able to fire accurately while moving in RE would kill what is left of the series "classic feel".

They saw that their fans weren't buying their games for the puzzles. This game is not much more action oriented than RE4. So I don't really see this argument as legitimate, RE4 was popular and successful worldwide so they went the same direction. If you feel differently, you obviously played a different RE4 than I did.

Why is it that just because the game has more emphasis on action, that they are catering to the Halo/Gears fanbase? IMO, they would have actually been catering to such a crowd if they designed the game to mimic them. Just simply having more enemies coming at you & more ammunition to your disposal should not automatically make the game comparable to those dumb-down shooters. The action genre was not invented by Xbox titles, sorry.

Please, Halo is nothing special. People get so hyped over a generic sci-fi shooter that does absolutely nothing to separate itself from others or advance the genre. I certainly won't be buying or renting it, but that won't matter because of how many people strangely see it as the holy grail of shooters.

Halo - Generic, dumb down sci-fi shooter
    Halo 2- " " ....but u cen dual weeeld!
Halo 3- Nothing to see here, just milking the franchise
    Halo OTSD- ""

I agree, and have made this point in the past. However, I still wouldn't want to see fast movements, or somehow base the accuracy on how fast you are choosing to strafe. So that if you took a slow step it wouldn't affect you so much, but if you used it in an evasive manner that it wouldn't allow for precise aiming.

When looking at the objective for suppression fire, is it not to surpress the enemy so that you can seek out cover? Isn't it meant to hold the enemy down so that he can be flanked/out positioned? IMO Zombies need to be too stupid to react like a human in such a manner. Even the "more human-like" zombies in RE4-5 do not even attempt to take cover/react to your fire...the occasional dodge/hiding behind shield is about as far as that has ever gone in the RE series.

So I just don't see much of a purpose for it in this franchise. I never meant to imply that suppression fire cannot hit it's intended target, but depending on how fast you were moving - the chances of such would be extremely hindered.
